Handover check list - Things to check

I would strongly suggest a test drive,
Also scout out now to find the roughest local road that you can - Get everything that rattles rattling !

Believe it or not your new van with the 150 engine will fly along, up Hill & down Glen,as its empty, its a slightly different story with it running on full tanks and at your possible max payload.
Then you will notice the longer steep hills and will have to change down from 6th to 4th on the steep ones.
Its all part of the fun for me, as I dont ideally want to drive over 60MPH, and I play the game of trying to keep the average MPG over 27:D well I am a Scot also:D

You will notice also as many others have, that your engine can feel tight as its new,( i wont say gutless) it may even use a litre of oil over its first 7K miles, but the engine needs to be used as regularly as possible to keep the EGR & DPF ceared out, and is considered not run in until you hit double digits.
Sorry not trying to get you to suck eggs I hope.
When you get a moment, go on the Fiat Camper Assist website, put in your VIN no, and check that 1.you are on the system.2 there are outstanding re-calls on your van.
Good Luck
Les

As a few may know I (hopefully) have the handover of my new van tomorrow, can anyone chip in with any things I should ensure I check, and if necessary ways to check. Also I have never driven the van is this something that should be done at handover?

All experiences appreciated, could be things you missed or wished you had asked when you got yours ?

Thanks,

Drive it before you sign anything.
Also get them connect a mains lead and a bottle of gas so you can see the fridge working and the hob/oven working.
Also get them to fill it with water so again you can make sure the water heater/ pump work properly.
Check EVERYTHING and film the handover for reference.
Also ask if the van was "Forecourt funded" and if it was has it been cleared off.

Thanks, yes I have a huge fridge in the motorhome with freezer, I also have 4 x others, Dometic CFX28, CFX35, CFX40 and CFX65DZ oh and the ice machine you will see on the right of the pic, I can’t stand the heat ?
i have just sussed you out you go to the south of france and open a bar for 6 weeks

Yes

thanks, I have my extendable ladder packed ? AND warned the dealer I would be doing that ?
The only thing I would add is what I have said before.. Record the hand over on your phone.
Two reasons.. As an aide memoire, and as a record SHOULD something go tits up you have an actual factual undeniable record

Perhaps people are fed up being insulted.

Clearly you have not read this thread.

You can't insult a true Northerner. You can insult a Southern snowflake though. :D

Late morning there were plenty of blue skies in Burton on Trent after the mist had cleared.
I don`t think there is any doubt about the purchase is there ?

Late October, sunshine at 8pm. Where is this?

That was in the day during the extensive hand over, we were blocking the hand over area so moved to a car park, I had my ladders in the car and was inspecting the roof ?

Congratulations!

Do you have anywhere planned to stay with your new purchase?

No, getting my air suspension fitted tomorrow as well as swivel passenger seat, not sure why my model doesn’t have it but will have tomorrow ?. The 2nd leisure battery lives under that seat but swivel doesn’t affect it ?

As for going anywhere, apart from home after my northern tour / loop no, it will now be hibernated until July, with heating and dehumidification, will turn the wheels now and again, I’m not the best at using things, took a brand new VW high UP for its first service, it had only done 140 miles ?. I may sling it on the back of this, probably cheaper than what we pay at Nice airport for a rental car in the summer for 6 weeks we never use ?

This is my beach set up in summer, set up each morning, 6 bloody weeks staring at the sea and almost naked women constantly walking past, disgusting! ?

You will see the rental car at the side of my old van, the traffic is so busy we rarely use it, but it’s there if we want it ?

It is Lowdhams, what’s the secret? Best company ever to deal with, have had nothing but totally professional service, the salesman is absolutely superb ?

I just can’t understand what all this guessing stuff is, just ask, have people not got better things to do or useful things to post ?

Well there’s been a lot of guessing on here and you’re not exactly (up to now) sharing where you purchased from (not that it’s anyone else’s business) but being evasive it seems you are hiding something, then you’re wondering why some people think you’re trolling!
I bought mine from Lowdhams also had a great experience also, they should look after you there?

It doesn't look too bad, but the location may be out of the way for an easy walk or bike ride to civilisation. I can understand that the same routine for 6 weeks can get boring, maybe you need to find a few more friends in the area to break the routine.
Also you need to use your van more, lots of nice places in the UK, lots of funster meets. If your wife still works maybe you can attend a meet on your own for example and your wife catch up in the car etc. Others do that and seem to enjoy it. Stratford rally for example can be 10 days or so with a weekend in the middle. Give it a try.

Here are a few pics, nice shiney mudflaps ?

Was in Grantham last night, all those that warned me it was dirt tracks have been pulling my plonker, lovely roads here and all the people I have spoken to and seen (apart from those out in their pyjamas) have been so friendly and nice, really looking forward to my mini north tour ?

Note that as a result of advice from this forum I now have my gaslow filler in a perfect position rather than the gas locker door where it was going to be fitted, so THANKS to all who gave me advice ?

After 9yrs I have seen and done everything there over and over again, I may have found a new lease of life discovering Up North, can see me spending a lot more time up here ?

You are to be commended for your patience. Some years ago I spent 2 weeks in the barren Canaries which was about as much boredom as I could stand as I don't lay in the sun or appreciate cheap food, fags or booze.

Apologies, nobody asked and I have NEVER had a bad word to say about them, having seen them in real life you realise what a huge operation they are and the employment they provide locally, even though we had a few issues I have never demanded a discount, you will these people are stuck in a system that needs a good overhaul. There was a chap this morning who had stayed the night, he had a new Dethleffs and had to wait 3 mths for a water pump, the delay was not Lowdhams but the factory in Germany, his emails to Germany were all ignored.

So in short things happen, just a shame Amazon doesn’t have stock of all Motorhome parts with prime delivery! I am just going to enjoy the moment, I had no excitement at all before arriving but soon started to bond as I started to personalise it, having slept with her it’s certainly got a spark ?

I don’t want to sound like a spoilt brat but sometimes too much of a good thing spoils it, I came up north to try a bit of rough but instead found wonderful friendly people and civilisation that makes London look like a ghetto, I may have a look around and see if I can buy a small farm up here, my wife loves animals ?

? you know what, the smell of fresh vegetables and taking the dog out this morning in my wellies was so invigorating, 1,000% better than a hot desert, I can’t stand the heat and filthy sand ?

Sorry but who buys a farm because they love animals ?
You got your concepts confused there matey.

And why shouldn't you buy a farm if you can afford it and keep animals. I assume if you love animals then you don't buy a farm to rear and slaughter animals, horses for example. Don't understand your response.
