Had covid19? How do you think you caught it?

Over the weekend, I developed a cold. A plain, old-fashioned cold. No temperature, no cough, no loss of smell just lots of snot.
But I haven’t been anywhere to catch it! And if I can catch a cold without having contact with anyone except for the guy behind the counter in the corner shop , how easy would it be to get COVID?!
I know a few people saying exactly the same, living almost total isolation in quiet rural area and still catching cold.

Is this the evidence you mean https://fullfact.org/online/PCR-test-coronavirus/
If so looks like it's a fallacy. If not have you got a link. Sounds very odd to me.

I think this may be the report that is being referred to.

If it’s like the school my wife works at, there are buddy groups and maybe in your example the teachers and pupil are in the same buddy group. Then only affected buddy groups need sending home.

Or as far as you know, are all teachers & pupils back at school?
Did they test positive at a later test?
Don't know the full details re testing at school or this buddy thing.

Wife brought it home 24th March from her Respiratory ward and ITU rounds ( she's a consultant and virologist) and inevitably gave it to me. She has Asthma I'm on immunosuppressants.

I was fine after 5 days after having a temperature and fatigue, the wife was back in work after a fortnight having had a temp, fatigue & cough. We both have confirmed antibodies.

I fell ill with mild Covid symptoms on Boxing Day although at the time Covid-19 was unknown in the UK. Looking back, there were 2 possible ways I might have caught it. Either Xmas shopping in a crowded superstore with coughs and sniffles everywhere; or possibly more likely, during our modern jive dance group Xmas party.

After 10 days I felt better although I still had a dry cough and thought it was merely an atypical virus infection, neither flu nor a cold. I had not felt the need to see my GP at that stage. Breathing difficulties began gradually in mid-January, followed by heart problems, and fatigue, all widely recognised belatedly as Long Covid complications. I didn't get PCR tested until June and never got the result. My GP dismissed my request to arrange an antibody test.

Thanks for finding this ... interesting to read that it does not say that the figures will be lumped together, just that there will be a combined report.
True, but depending on how the 2 reports are combined, I think it may difficult to determine which illness is accountable when trying to determine spread and future policies to contain such.

A lot of people caught 'something' in dec/early Jan, including me
Struggling to breathe, feeling like your chest was being crushed and no energy whatsoever.........most put it down to a bug and despite it ruining xmas/new year they just got on with it returning to work after the holidays
It's only when the symptoms started to be put on the news that a lot thought "I've had that" 🤔
No idea if I had covid proper, no idea if i have anti bodies and i bet there are a lot of people out there who feel the same
Just dont know if we have had it or not 🤷‍♂️

At least with a mask on it will only run down your face and not where everybody can see it.

My Nan caught it in Lancaster Hospital after going in with stomach issues.
Her funeral was Tuesday.
She had underlying health issues but she died before her time, due 100% to C19. Best wishes to anyone who has it or has a loved one with it.

What I don’t understand is majority are now wearing masks, social distancing, no one is going out etc but there are >23k cases today! The numbers are rising but more can we do.

So sorry for your loss

My niece, a mental health nurse, caught it from a patient. Her boyfriend, who she lives with and slept in the same bed as, never caught it!

Maybe around where you live, but that's unfortunately not true everywhere. Here in Bristol, 2 very large universities and reports from those living and working amongst them are that the students are spreading it. 58% of central Bristol cases are students just of Bristol university.
It is now spreading in the schools, in grandson’s school more and more cases confirmed and I don’t think the half term break will be enough.

My work colleague flew down to visit her son at Bristol Uni 2 weeks ago. She went as their 1yo pup had died unexpectedly of heart failure and she wanted to tell him in person as he has suffered with depression. Im not sure if the timeline but he tested positive so she had to self isolate when home. She’s just finished isolation and no symptoms. She’s also just fine the antibody test which has come back clear.
My antibody test arrived today so I’ll do it on Monday.

Just listening to the news. All over Europe the 19 is rising massively. Thinking the only answer is a massive FULL lockdown, even more than last time..............................but once again it will be the accountants and economists who will have the last word.

Anyone consider ed that they might be letting the young people run with it so they can prove/disprove the herd imunity theory? They are a very low risk group.

The first 3 month FULL lockdown DIDN'T WORK, so what makes you think more lockdowns will improve the situation?

All that lockdowns DO achieve is the permanent death of highstreet shops and small and medium businesses whilst the supermarkets and online shops like Amazon will be thriving on their decomposing corpses.

Highstreet shops that are being closed because of Covid lockdowns will never open again, so it's very handy that back in April, Boris changed planning law for change of use to allow these shops to be turned into dwellings very easily......yes, very handy isn't it? Indeed, almost prescient? 🤔

Folk need to wake up and start looking at the bigger picture and piecing the puzzle together or they'll be sleepwalking into Disaster.

Here's a prediction for 2021:

"Fun", "Freedom" and "Happiness" will be officially deleted from the English dictionary because those terms no longer apply.......................😁

I was contacted by a study group based in Oxford and am tested every week (and DC) they come to me we get paid for doing so ( £50 for first visit and them £25 each per subsequent visits takes 5 mins and we get the results back same week! )
My daughter works doing this testing

I don’t think there is any “letting” them, according to various news reports they’re doing it all on their own- having parties, not wearing masks etc. Youngsters always think they’re immortal and nothing can touch them, we were like it once. Well, I was anyway, back in the dim and distant past.

Don't know how we got it, Kathy had it 2days before me, she is the main carer for her dad and also did the "panic buying" for us and also him, so I suppose she caught it when she was shopping.
The irony is that we needed the shopping in case we had to isolate for 2 weeks, but if she had not got the supplies she may have not caught Covid

I have had that very thought. Herd immunity is the only way we can be safe with this virus. That immunity will be gained in various ways. Vaccines being just one of them. People catching it and surviving thereby hopefully building up antibodies that will either give some protection or vastly reduce the effects if caught again. The virus mutating so it doesn’t kill off its host.

I would like to be tested for antibodies, as I had serious lung issues and most of the symptoms through December and saw a doctor in the Christmas new year break. Xrays showed dense fluid on my lungs and she was concerned as it was an unknown viral infection. Broad spectrum antibiotics and rest and I improved

Now the scientists have said that the original covid 19 outbreak was at the end of 2019 with a few undiagnosed cases that burnt out quickly before the virus mutated again. I had spent time with several people that could have infected me, including a lady from the chinese takeaway who was just back from a visit home and had what everyone thought a bad cold

John, same with me. I was only in hospital short while but I do wonder if it was the start of Covid before it was known. I believe my doctor feels the same way. I am STILL breathless and get severe exhaustion.

My doctor said antibody test wouldn't prove anything, as it wouldn't PROVE it was from that period.

I don't understand why those that want it can't just ask for a test and get one.

I must have read it wrong. I thought it read something like they lifted restrictions gradually after the major lockdown because IT DID work.

I think the government are aware of this and behind closed doors don’t really mind as it helps with one form of herd immunity. They are after all young and unlikely to suffer many symptoms of Covid.
Yes, yes before the nay sayers on here start. I know there have been cases of younger people having life changing effects and a few have died of it. That scenario is luckily very rare which is why we hear about those few cases.
