Grub in the Motorhome

I agree , I only buy the sourdough one. Only ever eat it toasted and a real bargain at only £3.60 per
LOAF!!!
Cheers, Dave
I like the sliced flat buns for sandwichs as they don't fall apart so much.

Tonight was roast parsnip, sweet potato and leek soup with Indian spices, honey and miso plus giant sourdough and melted comte croutons on top. Meat free but not on purpose. We often have veggie or vegan meals as we enjoy vegetables and Asian cuisines that are often plant based and much more adventurous flavour wise than traditional British meat and veg dishes.

The problem I find with 99.9% of bread is the ingredients are terrible, full of additives etc, I was looking at some the other day, I mean who wants to put diglycerides of fatty acids in bread in addition to a whole load of other additives.
Jason’s sourdough is the way to go!

The answer is to make your own. Wholemeal flour will be just that, white flour has some added minerals, by law.

A difficult thread this one!! Nil by mouth for nearly 4 years..a pint and a curry (with or without meat) would be a dream:giggle:..whatever you're eating..ENJOY!!

My Wholegrain is just that, the WHOLE grain that I get from a friendly miller, not white flour with minerals.

Is that really the difference between WholeMEAL and WhoIeGRAIN, I've never thought to ask?
Are you saying that they mill the grain, remove the bran, then add minerals, that's madness!

Thank goodness I, mostly, make my own ! 🤔

Todays grub is black bean chilli enchiladas topped with cashew cheese sauce and zingy cherry tomato salsa

How’s that for a gob full, sounds nice.

It needs another 5 minutes in the Smev oven so wait for it, double skillet used to cook it in.

Need to see the pictures, or it never happened 😀

wholemeal, whole grain, wholewheat are all the same thing - just the whole wheat ear ground. Stone ground is better that steel rollers. Any white flour i.e. minus wheat germ and bran, must by law be fortified however it is sold. Commercial bread whether baker or supermarket is a another thing all together. Even much so called sour dough has yeast added!!

Are you sure, the whole point of Authentic Sourdough is that, in my experience, Sourdough gets their rising agents from the atmosphere? 🤔

Yes but supermarkets sell sourfaux products often because sourdough doesn't have a protected identity in terms of labelling. There's a whole campaign called the real bread campaign to try to stop this as it's misleading to consumers and damages the real bakery businesses by undercutting with cheaper fakes.

A lovely change cooked today in the Motorhome. Meat free Sunday.

Chilli garlic Tempeh noodles with crunchy rainbow vegetables, it’s amazing what you can do with a 3 burner hob and a Smev oven.

Beautiful, a slab or 2 of rye bread with mine followed by 4 small squares of this 100% dark chocolate.

Not for all but some if you will enjoy this, maybe Coolcats

Looks absolutely delicious!
Where can I buy that chocolate?

We got a small Panasonic bread maker at Christmas, & I haven’t bought any bread since. I put it on in the morning as we would hear it overnight, although it does have a delay timer. I make whole meal, white & raisin bread, with or without seeds as I fancy! Takes me two minutes in the morning to set it off, & it’s delicious- just big enough for two!

It takes 2 minutes to 'set it off' but hours to get the bread.
I set the timer to start an hour and a half before my get up time as it makes very little noise during that time, it just sits there navel gazing, it's only later when the louder noises start. 👍

Same here. I'm sure it has paid for itself already and we know exactly what's in the loaf so no wasting time studying labels at the shop. Stoneground organic from Shipton mill. All sorts of types but the wholemeal extra course is my favourite.

Jacket potato, five bean salad, avocado, red onion, houmous, falafels, watercress and rocket, tomatoes, a bit of malt vinegar and lemon juice.

Lovely, I forgot to take a photo but this is just cooling down what we cooked the jackets in, that’s the best I can do today.

And in Eire and the USA there is a tax allowance to set against the cost.

I used to make my own bread and perhaps I might be able to again at some point.
When we lived near Penrith I could get basic stuff on prescription, but moved and now I can't.
Postcode lottery again!
Cheers, Dave

Well only one day left and we’ve managed it fine so far, meat free March, a few more forgot to photo a lot of them

A lot of salads and avocados plus tofu, tempeh, wholewheat pasta, quinoa, brown rice, mushrooms, tomatoes, rye bread, blueberries, frozen raspberries, nutritional yeast, cocoa powder, herbs, spices, walnuts, almonds
