Google now to decimate the recruitment industry

your agency is not typical for many contractors.

I accept that , however the general consensus on this thread appears to paint them all with the same brush , which is simply not fair .

I have worked for several agency's in the past , yet only one would i not promote . Excepting that one , all gave the same benefits , and there are many more besides in this area , i would expect the same service from .

Yes that’s ok but some people can not afford to loose a shift unpaid.

Yes i accept that too , however would you risk driving such a vehicle . If caught you could expect to pay a fine , twice what you could earn in that day , plus point's on your licence , we are talking dangerous vehicle here and heavy good's at that . With heavy goods more points , does not mean more prizes , it mean's less work . You are the keeper of that vehicle , at that time , owner if you like , you are responsible for that vehicle being roadworthy , not the company . Yes the company will be in deep do , do , for allowing you to do it , but you are the keeper . Try telling vosa , or who ever they are today , you were told or else and their just laugh at you .

Now let's get this in context here , i ent no angel , but there are some risk's you simply don't take .

The ones who are not , yes i'm afraid i've met them . One company guy i worked with wanted to follow me , i regret i had to talk him outta it . He was in a totally different position , age on his side , plus a wife , kid's , and all that go with it . Work is not regular , that the downside . However we stayed in touch , and now , i'm really pleased to say he has a better job than me , earning twice the money and good luck to the guy . We are still in touch .

As mentioned in an earlier post, many contractors do well in the contract market and it is still attractive to many who want the flexible lifestyle.

However, leaping back to the topic of Google - most contractors would agree and welcome the likely shake up of the industry that Google may or may not bring .

Yeah but are you happy with a inferior equipment.
You need to embrace change, not fight it :)
I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment SF with the new Samsung Note 9 due to launch on August 8th. Do I go for this or wait for the S10 due next year. I think Apple will have another attempt to make up some lost ground with a larger version of their over rated X phone later this year but I shouldn't hold your breath......;)

I did say you was right. Still I now know all about points and safe motors.

Google are great employers themselves so perhaps they will bring some of this to the table. The new London HQ certainly looks the part.(y)

One of the downsides of being a contractor is that at anytime you can get tapped on the shoulder and led to the door.

Some chaps don't like that risk, hence, they go back to 'permie' jobs with all the comforts (e.g. sick pay, holidays, work place pension, etc.)...
My contracts were water tight ;)

You are quite right of course (y)

However the word "contractor" whilst absolutely accurate can be slightly misleading.

I used to employ quite a few contractors before I retired but they were engineers - electronic, software, installation engineers and they demanded and were paid decent money!

In a labourers case he is not really a "contractor" as such - normally just someone desperate for work who will take on zero hours contracts to pay his rent & food!

One hundred percent Teuchter….zero hours contracts are not contractors.
