Sat outside our MOHO Enjoy!!!

Last night relaxed with a couple of G&Ts Gordons half bottle, it was opened, 1 and a half capfuls gin to a can of fever tree Elderflower.
Yummy and I slept well. John finished a bottle of whisky, probably 2-3 doubles, didn't seem worth putting so little back in the cupboard.

Wow, at that level of dilution you’d be as well just taking the top of the gin bottle and sniffing it occasionally! :xrofl:

Glad you slept well.

I got introduced properly to Gin and Tonic by a long dead, good friend, who when working in the City of London 30 years ago always had a large G&T at lunchtime. He convinced me that even half a beer at lunch and your customers and your boss could smell it all afternoon. But a Large Gin kept your secret. All those lunchtime sessions and it grew on me. Hendricks, Jinzu and my fave, Tanqueray no Ten, have all been gifted to me and sampled this Christmas :D

You're all over simplifying a lot.

Each gin has different botanicals and different flavours so they all benefit from different mixers and different garnishes.

There is no one single tonic that will go with everything just as there is no one single garnish that suits everything.

The most important thing is not to flood it with mixer. 2 or 3 parts mixer is the absolute maximum you ever want and with many gins even that is too much.

Anyone who wants an education should try our local. They have 80 odd different gins at the last count and each one is served as it should be.

Tanq 10 is one of my favourites as well.

Bloom is another favourite, especially in the summer.

View attachment 203853 These are the bottles, they are only small bottles as a taster :)

Years ago I tried tonic water but have to say I wasn’t overly keen on the taste, but that was some time ago

I’m open to suggestions for these two.

Everyone is right about the Hendricks - cucumber and a good quality tonic

The Whitley Neill really likes being served with a good ginger ale like Fever Tree but not too much. It really doesn't want to be much more than equal quantities.

Persie make a couple of interesting ones for anyone who wants to try something a bit different.

The Zesty Citrus is what it says. Tanq 10, Caorunn and Copperhead lovers will like it. Serve with lime and a tiny amount of tonic.

The Herby is really interesting. You can drink it on it's own but if you want a mixer then Lamb and Watt Basil Tonic turns makes it even better. Garnish with fresh rosemary.

Is gin a good accompaniment for popcorn?

Just asking.

Just bought a bottle of the local (Algarve) tangerine gin to try. Very nice.

I kike the occasional G&T (not often - only about twice a day!) Bombay Saphire & Schwepps with Ice & a slice of both lemon & lime does me!:xsmile:

Tried Hendricks with cucumber once - Hendricks was fine but!!! Cucumber is best in a salad or a sandwich - NOT in gin!! :xwink:

Tried rhubarb gin in the in the summer, stocked up on gin while in Spain, now waiting for next years crop, from John's brother so I can make my own.
Friend got some 'non alcohol gin' the flavour was lovely and I could drive home.

The rhubarb and ginger gin I drink with lots of ice and a little water.

We have started to add a piece of grapefruit instead of lemon and have joined the craft gin club. See website. Quite expensive but you just choose when you want to buy. We have 1 every two months and you can leave whenever you want. Suffering st the moment as doing the gut make-over plan and no alcohol for a month!!!

I started collecting different Gins over 7 years ago, peaking at 50 plus different ones. However gin has now got too fashionable and the prices have gone up accordingly. My favourites are Bluecoat (American), Saffron Gin and Bulldog (especially nice bottle). All this talk has made me thirsty.

Just a reminder to those of us who enjoy a few Gin and Tonic's the night before, the breath test aboard is normally harder to pass than here in the UK when on the road early the next morning.
