Gin Drinking

We like rhubarb and ginger gin with lemonade or the same gin mixed with Blue Wicked, awesome drink !!

Slim Jim Chrystal glass 1/3 full with ice, cover ice with gin, add a slice of pink grapefruit, top up with Fever Tree tonic, perfik every time!

Preparation Pour all ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into highball glass. Garnish with pineapple and cocktail cherry.

A lovely festive red colour drink known as Singapore Sling.

Recommend not driving afterwards!
Or you can use white rum instead of gin then its called a rum runner ...a Florida keys special .lol

Virgin? Just experiment till you get it right. It's all part of the fun.

One of my presses from daughter was a bottle of Tanqueray No. TEN. (47.3%):xgrin:

Nothing better for a sore throat than Gin & fresh orange juice.

As for those people who suggest putting cucumber in Gin, they should be taken out to the wall and shot. How could they even think about ruining such a lovely drink with a product of the devil.

The old adage says, you can use cheap gin (Aldi London dry gin) but never a cheap tonic, (Schweppes or better)Works well for us.
Phil
Don't totaly agree, most cheap tonics are fine some are a bit iffy, but some of the cheap gins are horrible and sugary particularly the UK supermarket own brands, Lidl & Aldi are fine.

Try putting the gin bottle (or voddy for that matter) into the freezer for a few hours before any of the above mixtures. Yum :xThumb:

I know I will get shouted down ,but i cannot see Or taste the difference between a over priced fizzy water called feverfew and a cheap supermarket fizzy tonic water. I like to taste the gin and tonic is just another quinine flavour . It doesn't need a designer label with price to match to make it taste any better .IMHO .

I think I agree but I draw the line at Low Cal tonic, in fact all Low Cal drinks are disgusting.

My wife is asleep in her dinner at the moment i will ask her when she comes round, i mean wakes up:xsmile:

I don’t care for cucumber either but, in some circles, it is regarded as ‘the perfect serve’ for Hendricks gin. It would be criminal if accompanied with other guns. :xgrin:

Many things accompanied by guns are criminal:xrofl:

If you can’t taste the difference between supermarket brand tonic and something a bit “better” such as Schweppes (or the more expensive ones) then that’s fine and you should obviously go with with what works for you. But not everyone’s taste is the same, and to call that snobbery is perhaps being a bit rude.

My pals and I are big on gin; Fevertree tonic is our favourite[they have a new Clementine flavoured one out now- delicious and not sweet]
Often have a Gin evening with different kinds [we pool resources ] and each to her own I say when it comes to tastes BUT lo cal/slimline tonic is [in my opinion] always vile.
Gin and It [Italian vermouth] -Gin and Sin [Cinzano] and Gin and Cointreau [equal measures with a huge lump of ice] were staples in my younger years.
Reading this thread has made me quite fancy a G and T; sadly On Call all over the holidays so cant really chance one. But Other Funsters are -I assume - available.

I'm more of a red wine drinker than a spirit drinker but I do like home made Damson Gin, when the damsons on my trees are ripe we pick them and my wife makes jam with most of them but I always keep 3 pounds on one side, I put them into a large plastic container, add 1 &1/2 pounds of sugar, and pour in 1 litre of gin, close the lid on the plastic container, leave mixture to settle for 2 weeks then stir gently, then stir at regular intervals (every 4 weeks) it takes approx 5 months before it's ready to drink, so leading up to Christmas I decant the liquid into bottles ready to be served with Christmas dinner.

Sitting here with a nice refreshing fever tree slimline tonic, no gin, not in th mood.
Depends how I feel how much or which tonic I use, same goes for the gin. however I do like sloe gin, my own home made, neat, no ice in any.

I genarally have a G&T on a plane, if anything. I like it strong so only put about a quarter of it with the gin. Then I drink the rest with the ice and lemon. Not sure which I prefer to be honest, the one with the gin or the one without. On planes it tends to be Beefeater and Schweppes

View attachment 203853 These are the bottles, they are only small bottles as a taster :)

Years ago I tried tonic water but have to say I wasn’t overly keen on the taste, but that was some time ago

I’m open to suggestions for these two.
the hendricks must have thin slices of cucumber and the whitley neill would be nice with a slice of Pink grapefruit

By coincidence I bought a pack of Waitrose Essential Tonic cans and Christmas eave and find it delicious (with gin, of course). And cheap.
