Have a look at this link. It details every stop we've made including a phot and exact locations. Can you recommend some of your favourite aires both rural and town centre. We don’t mind the odd night on tarmac.
Neat answer Jim,
But I take that as you do not offer a cheaper day stop for services than for overnight.
Fair enough, as it is your choice.
Geoff
Just saw you will be in Normandy, so check out the link here and look at the 'MAPS' tab which details all our stopovers including Northern France! Can you recommend some of your favourite aires both rural and town centre. We don’t mind the odd night on tarmac.
Never mind 50%. We paid £34.50 a night last month at a Premier Inn - our friends have just booked (Cornwall school holidays mind with lots of facilities) their motorhome at £39.50 per night! My sister saw one in that area nearly £50 per night — I suppose a family think that’s not bad value for a group of them.Aye, but to be honest i suspect a lot of it will blow over after this winter, those that have bought big campers / motorhomes etc thinking it's cheaper will not think that when they have it sat in storage for 6 months not being used. they'll soon sell up, causing a glut of campers and the sites will realise that the "boom" isnt gonna last and the stupid prices wont be sustainable.
I have a limit on what ill pay for a night, not an exact figure as such but my comparison is what I'd pay out for a room in a travelodge or similar. So if a site is going to cost me more than 50% of the stay in a travelodge then Im not gonna use it. Heck the only reason Im staying on sites and joined the C&MC was I couldn't find an independant site for this weekend just gone :-/
Yep - remember the increase to 15% and wondering when it would end. Tough timesCan remember the mortgage hitting that figure,,it doubled my payments,,had to get a weekend job on top of the 60 hours I was working to pay it..BUSBY.
To be fair I think all these places are putting their prices up, to try and make sure they make some of the money back from the last year or so and they know they have a trapped audience. Feel for some young families who have to cope with school holiday prices, was talking to a young mum at work and they have more or less given up this year having a holiday and planning day trips instead.Just try looking at B&B, AirBnB, holiday cottage etc prices - I think you’ll find campsite prices are still good value for money. Always a few to break the rules of course …
You can still follow the weather. You simply have to be totally flexible. We set off from home with a large Motorhome with car on a trailer then ring up cl/cs or even the occasional Site. Without fail we find somewhere in the area we want to visit. Sometimes only a couple of nights, sometimes a week. A holiday is where you park rather than a specific location. In over 40 years we have never booked. We left our elderly dog and cat in kennels/cattery while we went on a recent 10 day holiday in Caravan club sites and the kennelling fees were more than the camp site fees, so... to me that seemed pretty reasonable, given the facilities on offer. We had to keep changing our dates because of my husband's work (and then quarantine because he worked in an Amber list country) so thank God for the Club Sites flexible booking policy - I could not even look at ordinary sites that wanted deposits and by the time we knew when we could definitely go away, all the smaller sites were booked solid. So much for my dream of owning a camper meaning we could just rock up at places and decide to follow the weather. I can only hope it is different when people can go abroad again but for now, we're just happy to have been able to go away at all. I'm guessing a lot of people who pay whatever is asked, feel the same.

I like camping, a holiday touring Premier/Travelodges does not really do it for meNever mind 50%. We paid £34.50 a night last month at a Premier Inn - our friends have just booked (Cornwall school holidays mind with lots of facilities) their motorhome at £39.50 per night! My sister saw one in that area nearly £50 per night — I suppose a family think that’s not bad value for a group of them.
No, Bob. Just a quick visit to break the journey, so only walked along the Old Rail Track in Caton latish last night [when cooler!]. Elaine really liked Caton and the surrounding countryside, so we'll be returning for a more leisurely break in the very near future! We both need to get fit, so a week's cycling and walking should fit the bill nicely, and give us chance to discharge the cashflow from Intensive Care ... ['Have you seen this month's cretin card bill?' was the question of the day ...]At Kirby Lonsdale did you go to The Devils Bridge??
