Get Sorning!

I can't i live in mine 😁 that said i left my car taxed back in uk but as its only 30 quid a year im not too fussed

Here we go again....How many times is this topic going to come up..
As you all know by now I am stonche use it lose or lose it when it comes to Sorn'ing.
However I appreciate there are plenty to disagree with me BUT also just as many who agree.
Time to put this subject to bed perhaps ????????????
But which one? The french bed or the drop down? Making up the lounge one is too much hassle

but I won’t be sorning it!
Used to be the fine was sent automatically if not taxed when due & not put on sorn?
If not taxed or sorned, your insurance is invalid.
Nonsense
I meant if not taxed or not sorned, insurance is invalid.
Still nonsense. You are insuring a vehicle .It doesn't have to move to be insured nor does it have to be mot'd.

It's Like saying your house insurance isn't valid if you fail to pay council tax.

has to be taxed or sorn or its an automatic £80 fine
Sorry I should re phrase my comments!
I will not be surrendering my current tax BUT when it’s due in Dec/jan I may not re tax it straightaway and will declare it sorn or I may tax it, it’s only £165ish!! Decisions, Decisions😁

Done, can't see getting any use from the van for at least 2 months. We unfortunately have one registered between Nov 19 & Mar 20.
I shall say no more on that subject other than DOH!

Tesco for food...B@Q for paint... Iceland for frozen... local farm butcher for meat... local log supplier for clugs for fire..
OOHH yes we do use our van.. it defo does not sit in drive rusting away.... Oh yes I also use it for work when Mrs Poppycamper needs car.
PS total lockdown in Englandshire... not here yet unless you all decide to come up and bring it with you AGAIN.

Work is the last place I would take our van, it’s a #### hole with rats, and human rats as well.

Weel that wid save you a trip tae butcher fur fresh meat.🤣🤣🤣

I don’t get what the hassle is. To SORN takes about 5 minutes, and about the same to re_tax the vehicle. The only hassle that I used to find was that DVLA refund with a cheque, but since using the banking app, on a phone, I photo the cheque and it is paid in

Save about £5.20 a week, it’s a no brainier!
Agree, we do monthly DD for our tax as we can then SORN it easily and re-tax is when we want to, it doesn't cost much more than paying it all up front but gives a lot more flexibility and no messing about waiting for a refund cheque.

It has to be taxed or sorned.
What a pity the insurance cant be switched on and off as easily.
Our annual premium is about 300. When i enquired about it being off road and laid up like a
vintage car the quote was £600.
Someone else is taking the mickey

What's the point it only saves 3½ quid a week and a lot of hassle if you want to go out in the van.

Ill take the £3.?? A week. I’ve got 4 sorn at the moment.

currently saving about £100 a month.

anyone wants to send me £3 a week. I’ll sort your sorning out

Hère all vehicles must be insured on the road or not . Likely logic is they could still cause a fire . Or be in a building ie ours are in our barn which goes on fire. But we don’t have road tax .

You can cancel the policy of course to 'switch it off' but not a risk I'd take. The reason for the higher charge when on a 'laid up' policy is likely because it's a different underwriter or the new type of policy is only provided by a limited number of companies who are less competitive with their prices.

According to my renewal that has just come from comfort they state must have MOT to be insured with them but vehicle can be sorned

DVLA works on it is either taxed or SORN, there is not another option. Check it out!

Not possible with NatWest, their on-line banking is outdated and the app is too:

Unfortunately, you can’t currently pay a cheque in online on either the NatWest app or with Online Banking. You can still pay your cheque into a branch.
Do you have an account with another bank which you could pay it into as most do have 'app cheque deposit' ability?

We were supposed to be going this weekend but obviously now can't so have put the van on SORN. Just await the refund cheque now. As has been said easy to tax again when we want to.

You're going to the wrong insurance people, I've a 1964 Cooper S which I insure fully comp with agreed valuation for less than £100 pa. My 911 costs around £270 pa. MoHo is about £300.pa

DONE! Very to easy to SORN and to re tax. Only takes a few minutes on line.

Mine is at Dealers for warranty again !! they might as well keep it parked up there I can see the Month's Lockdown announced last night, lasting longer, unless they announce increased fine amounts and, charge more people for ignoring the Law.

I SORN'd my motorhome yesterday after having re-taxed it (£264) in September as I probably won't be using it again until April. I have other winter interests that keep me busy.
I don't usually SORN it. This time it's nothing to do with the money as such but it has no value when the m/h is sat in my drive unused (apart from moving it 10 yds or so occasionally to alter the tyre contact positions).
I make no apology for posting that the refund will be of more benefit when divided between my three regular chosen charities which have suffered a great drop in income during the epidemic.
Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
Macmillan Cancer Nurses
A local animal rescue centre.

Would check your insurance first as the dealer's will not normally be as good.

Done.
