Germany

Not noticed a fire station, it’s P2 off Nordlingen Strasse, near a Greek restaurant, Aldi and Lidl.
We never noticed it until there was an almighty bang outside that shook the earth😬😬 next thing about a dozen cars came racing in and the blokes ran into the building, sirens going off like it was the end of the world!

Aparently it was a sonic boom from a fighter jet😁

Sure P2 is the one with toilets just on the left as you go out and restaurant on the right, large B&Q type shop on the right hand side just before you cross over into the town?

😢😢😢
we may stop off there next week or when we return back from Croatia in June, Mrs CC also loves Lake Titisee so looks like that’s another stop off😁😁
Might see u on the road, we’re down at Krk for a week in June then back up rothenburg way👍👍

My bad RidersofRohan ive got the wrong one, we went to the one just off the market square, very good food btw! Sorry for. The confusion Coastal Cruiser. 👍
There is an unusual amount of Italian restaurants in the town that’s for sure😁😁

We have overnighted at at a large free car park opp Lake Schluchsee, just around the corner from Tittisee which was really crowded when we went past yesterday.

On the way here we hit traffic and we stopped off at the beautiful little town of Erriskirche, just off the B31 where we befriended a local angler who spoke excellent English. He recommended Schluchsee as being prettier with threat cycling and walks

Erriskirche has a wonderful riverside nature reserve and on our ramble we heard our first ever Cuckoo, of fact we heard lots of them.

No pics of Schluchsee yet but here’s some of our ramble

Was thinking of stopping there (schluchsee) if we don’t make it to waldshut tiengen in a couple of weeks👍

We did however spend the day at this much smaller and quieter lake.
Restaurant for coffee, just 75 yds away, a 3k hike around the lake and a stall selling fresh produce. Idyllic. (y)

It is interesting what different people like or otherwise.
I generally like the Moselle even the busier touristy places same with parts of the Rhine.
Black Forest was just ok and wasn't keen on Tittisee though we were on a nice site on the far side of the lake from the town.
It's a big country with lots to explore so lots to suit everyone.
Planning to be over in the autumn but no plans for destinations yet. Cost of fuel may be a bit of a factor?
Seeing where others are is handy for pointers though (y)

We are totally self contained and can be off grid for about a week, deliberately so as we pretty much avoid camp sites-preferring to stop at a different location each evening, exploring as much as we can, preferring rural to commercial areas.
That’s the benefit of a narrow van like a Crafter, it even squeezes through the copious 6’6” width restrictions in London where we live.

But we are all different and I wouldn’t knock those who stay on sites- different strokes for different folks eh. The important thing is that life is far too short, enjoy each day as it comes (y)(y)

Think i'll cancel our France Spain and Portugal trip and go to Germany, would appear it's a lot quieter. Who want's to see Brits on holiday anyway:giggle:;)
The old East Germany can be stunning, everyone wants to live in the west, roads are good but can be narrow, villages with cobbled streets etc, you can always find somewhere to stop overnight, in Miesen ( the china place) you can just stop alongside the river - we also use the Stelleplatz app, a lot of the stelleplatz have power and waste facilities, you don't need campsites if you want to tour.
And yes, its fairly Brit free ....

Forgot to say that Germans love to go to Italy/ Slovenia/Croatia etc for the sun and ignore what's on their own doorstep, if you go to Gardasee ( Lake Garda ) you can't move for Germans.....:)

We're just back from our mini-tour and for the first time we, mostly, used stellplatz (no kids come with us now, so don't need all the paraphernalia of a campsite). The ones we stayed at were excellent and much better than a couple of French aires we've stayed at in the past. Stellplatz at Aachen and Heidelberg were both excellent, the latter even having a bar, with cheap local beer vom fass

Distinct lack of other English visitors, although I guess it's quite early in the season.

Stellplatz at Aachen
Was it the one near the town that the warden sells bread and pastries from in the morning from a hut ?
If so he is a very jolly chap and the sites was clean.
There was a sports type hall over one side of the site that was a bit noisy but it settled down at around 10-00pm.

It's not a hut anymore - very nice clean place still

Yes we stayed there last month. Aachen is twinned with our home town Halifax and have always wanted to visit. Still not sure what we have in common, Aachen much larger, and more ancient. Enjoyed the visit easy walk into town from the stellplatz and well worth it.
One thing similar is that both have superb countryside very close to the centre.

That’s a lot better, they were building when we visited.

We never went into the town as just passing through but is it worth a trip?
It was worth a visit. Bit of a long and convoluted walk from the site, but nice enough.
