Germany Ideas

As is the VW Town & Museum of Wolfburg. I was there a few years ago and the complete town is VW.

Out of the 100's of vehicles I saw, only 2 were not from the VW family of makes. They were Transits.

Big carpark for overnighting and even if your not into VW, it's still worth a visit!
If you are into early VWs then be in <Broken link removed>

Here's a few places...

Monschau, pleasant little town on the border you can use as a first or last German stop-over.

Rüdesheim as someone else mentioned. OK parking if field open at the top of town, difficult if not.

Mittenwald - south. Very pretty

Bamberg - smoked beer, a must try. Go to the Schlenkerla pub. Stay at the canoe centre.

Basel (just over the border), go up the cathedral spire - amazing.

Bernkastel-Kues - love it.

Mosel Valley - lots of nice places, do at the end of trip & stock up on wine!

Lots more places, Germany is gorgeous & the people are generally very nice & most speak English well.

Basel

Bernkastel-Kues

Mosel Valley -
+1 for most of Mad dog list
Monschau is our usual last stop on way home or the town up the hill anyway. There is a great long distance cycle way that I plan to do more of now we have e-bikes sometime.

Hartz mountains are fabulous. My son was stationed in Bergen Belsen so we used to do day trips.
If you have kids try Pullman City (cowboy town). Whole day and you can prospect for gold. Heidi park massive fun fare like Disney land. More than a day to see it all. Also Serengitti Park every animal on earth I think. Do stop at all the little villages everyone has something to offer. Very friendly people. We based ourselves in Braunlager. Go to the park and listen to the free ompah bands. If they are in season you have to try the Morrello cherries they are out of this world. Best I stop now as I could go on for pages.😀😀😀

We were there 2 days ago, very nice but very very busy.
Note they have national holiday on Friday so expect it to be even busier next weekend
Currently sitting at Titisee, plan to move to the north of the Blackforest tomorrow then on wednesday find a nice and sit out the busy weekend.
Mike
We hadn’t realised about the national holiday, so thanks. We are heading for the Black Forest tomorrow and Wednesday. Then for the weekend we are thinking about Heidelberg area as we need some short hops back the Chunnel for Thursday morning. We might try to book a site tomorrow for the weekend. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Bernkastel-Kues as Mad dog says is fabulous, one of our favourite places.

And a hidden gem down on the south west corner, Breisach, next to the Rhine.

Rothenberg ob de Tauper is fab too, could easily waste a few days around there.

We are in Wildberg and were not aware of the public holidays this week and a great deal of the sites are fully booked!

Never had this issue at this time of year before in France, bit of s surprise. Sure we will manage somehow.

I doubt there are many Germans left in Germany as they all seem to be in Croatia😁

Remember that if you cycle or motorbike into Basel from Germany and the customs points arent open on the way in, they may be open on the way back, best to remember your passports (or find a different way out like us)

I m sure its only for customs though

We have just arrived at Titisee now and have booked in at Weiherhof camping for two nights. We were following satnav to somewhere else and just dropped in to this as it is lake side.

Just like at home lots of pent up demand and a holiday weekend.
We don't normally book in advance and up till now only came unstuck ounce but it did take to the fourth site to get somewhere . If I was going July or August I would be booking though if planning to use sites.

This is the weekend coming up that we got caught out at Koblenz in my blog. We were lucky that an understanding campsite owner let us stop over on a spot that was not a spot.

So like you, we have booked up until Monday morning

There was (been there in 2018) a pleasant Stellplatz at if you are stuck in that area. There is an interesting little chain ferry there over the Waser.
We will be in <Broken link removed> where there is a http://g.co/maps/6ca6c on the end of the carpark near the town hall.

Bit of a plan coming together though that may go out the window when we leave the ferry.
While looking at sites we have used before I came across one called Victory Station below Bonn. They had a picture of the destruction after last summers flood. Unbelievable how high the river must have been.
Site has still not been able to reopen.

The German technical museums, Concorde & concordski (inside visit as well) the Russian space shuttle (The Buran) and many more!!!

We're planning to use the Wohnmobilstellplatz in Rinteln on the night of the 26th June if we can get on. Attending a motor club gathering and meal in a hotel in the town.
If no room in the Stelenenplatz, then the massive DoktorSee campsite on the south side of the river (1km from the far more interesting old town) should have space.
It's massive! well over 1,000 pitches (including this weekend a VW Variant meeting, with cars from NL as well as Germans

It's the word MASSIVE that puts us off.

Do you have any pictures of the Variant meeting.

P.S. for the non-VW enthusiast the Volkswagen term 'Variant' simply equates to estate car.

I must admit, although it was a perfectly good site with good facilities, it the largest site (excluding Glastonbury) I've been on, and I'd probably not go back.

The VW Variant meet up, unfortunately I did not take any pictures.

I had two of them back in the mid 1980's
I sold one to a mate for £50 (which was double what I'd paid for it) he then bought a fiberglass copy of a Porche 911 shell, and converted the car into a Porche look alike.

The other one I kept for at least 3 years until it was written off by a neighbour hitting it whilst pissed, which wrote it off.
Wonderful car, above 60mph conversation was impossible as the roar of the engine sounded like a Harrier Jump Jet doing a vertical take off.
On motorways cars would hear you coming before they saw you!

Only issue was at high speeds it drank fuel so fast you could actually see the petrol gage moving!
