Gearbox woes

Thanks but I’m really worried , I’m ready to change my van but not sure how it will effect my px value , that’s if they will take it

When we px ours at 23k miles the only thing they checked was for damp. They never asked if everything was ok either.

We used Nick Whale but would not recommend them.

I certainly would never buy anything from them again.

i used heart of england motorhomes would not recommend them they ended up having to buy the van they sold me

Not impressed with this dealer visited twice and sales guys could not be bothered to come out side and just sent a foreign chap with broken English and minimal knowledge of motorhomes to speak to us. Left and bought from elsewhere 2 days later.

Sounds like we had a lucky escape.

Recently bought new Moho and p/x ed our old one and the salesman spent ages checking for damp and asked if we had the carpets which were up on the bed.

Otherwise did not even ask if all the appliances worked let alone test them which suprised me

Anyone had any dealings with white arches ?

Hi @Baden87 We bought our first Motorhome from them which was used and 7 years old. First Moho for some years so no p/x with them.

Reasonably attentive and helpful but a few areas they could have been better and Once i had to intervene to get the result I felt was reasonable however before we replaced ours they made some staff changes which seemed to make an improvement so generally fairly okay.

You can PM me if you want more details.

Regards Paul

Emailed fiat customer services to ask why could it have gone bad after so few miles , got a call from them and they said they couldn’t help I would need to speak to a fiat professional dealer , and the person told me she was the person that deals with Motorhomes and she hadn’t co e across this problem before ?

Tell her she Should read the past post on this site and all the other sites and all the problems Citroen and Peugeot have that share the same gearbox. If fiat had a half decent service they would know about the problem just as nearly all the fiat motor home owners do.

If its the same g/box as Citroen there is adjustment on cable by taking off gearknob (unscrews) and prise off cover. You will see a black "boxtop on r/h cable. It is spring loaded and you can adjust.Dont know if that will help it.The 6 speed g/boxes are a bit hit and miss sometimes .They need very "gentle " changes.Good luck with it.

Had two fiat x250s done over 40000miles in them without any gearbox problems.(y)(y)

My X250 had a knackered synchro on 3rd at circa 40,000 miles. Been good as gold since, the bad news, it was about £1,200 to replace! OUCH!

Update on gear box had gearbox oil changed and it’s worse heeeelp

Like other posters on here we have never had a dealer drive our p/x vehicles.

A quick check of year, general appearance and, sometimes, a damp check.

They have never even attempted to start the engine!

yes i understand , but knowing my luck they will, im sure it won't cost them much to fix but ill bet they want to knock a load off px price
You won't know until you try,,Pop in to Lowdams or Brownhills and give it a try,,Stop worrying,,life too short,,BUSBY:D:D

I think it’s only fair to mention a problem when trading in. I mean if you bought a van from them you would expect the same ???

Sorry to tell you @Charlie that’s human nature now, keep quiet about any faults on old one and kick off if new one not perfect :D

My Fiat X250. Threw the 6th gear at 35K miles 2month and 12days after purchase, was "repaired" and threw it again about 11 month later. Fullers where brilliant, both times. Had the box rebuilt plus new clutches. FOC. I traded it for a Merc Auto earlier this year. Reverse "judder" was another "Feature" of that gear box too.

Just a thought -would it be possible to fit a 5 speed box/gearchange -or are they a problem?

Traders buy low to allow for expenses keep quiet about minor problem if worried sell privately for same money and explain problem or play with gearbox cables

Just for interest-is it possible to swop g/boxes with the engine in situ ?

think you just need remove mount support engine remove drive shaft and gearbox should be easy i would buy at what baden87 thinks its worth
