your in luck there ...there has been reports that the gear change cables requiring adjustment maybe a good suggestion to your garage be lucky

Get the oil checked, if it's emulsified then that could very well be the problem, water ingress!

Whereabouts are you? You never know, a kind-hearted Funster with some mechanical expertise might volunteer to come and do some basic diagnostics for you to save having to pay a garage to do it........

I’m in Ng17 area thanks guys , do the cables need adjustment periodically then guys , has any one had experience of this problem and fixed it with cable adjustments?

Thank you for the consideration, any body else care to contribute any ideas on the problem

You could try double clutching when changing into gear which may save a more expensive repair cost on gearbox.

Or if you have vehicle recovery insurance you could call them out and maybe get an idea or repair out of them.

Ideally if you are unable to do the work you need to book it in a garage and hope you have not done any additional damage to gearbox

Not sure where ng17 is but we have a fun ster garage in Mansfield Pecks Hill Garage @Geo he has the premises I think it’s now run by his son, good luck (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Hi yes the one in pecks hill is not too far away thank you

Hi yes if I do a slower gearchange it’s just fine but I’m worried when I trade it in they will reject it

I had a 2009 one which had only done 25.000 miles and the sync went between 1st and 2nd. You shouldn't need to change gearbox oil. Its not in the Fiat service schedule till I think working from memory 80.000. I wrote to fiat etc etc hoping they might make a contribution towards the cost which was 2300 euros. That was two 18 months ago. Fiat won't admit it but the gearboxes have a problem. Its the same gearbox used in the Citroen and Peugeot. I read up on it and apparently they didn't use the right metal for the sync. ( cost saving) I got mine done at a Fiat main agent. It came with a two year guarantee. I have since sold the van and bought a 2011 Fiat. I am told the problem was sorted by then, but I was also told it was sorted by 2009.
Sorry to hear of your problem.

Thanks but I’m really worried , I’m ready to change my van but not sure how it will effect my px value , that’s if they will take it

As far as a dealer goes he pays a fair price or try and sell privately mentioning all known fault and i'm sure you will get a fair price to you

Dealers don't normally bother to drive trade in's often don't even look at the van, all they want is year model & mileage and they give you a price.

yes i understand , but knowing my luck they will, im sure it won't cost them much to fix but ill bet they want to knock a load off px price

If they do walk away and go to another dealer :)

At worst it should only effect the trade in value up to 2300€ ( That is Euros) they might not deduct so much as they may be able to get it done for less. I would phone your local Fiat agent or if you have a tame garage and get a quote. Then you will know how much you may have to drop by when trading it in. My local garage quoted me 500€ less but there was no guarantee. I took it to Fiat as at the time it looked like they may make a contribution. Silly me.
It seems like a game of Russian roulette, some people don't get the gearbox problem. I was talking to one operator who had over twenty Citroen delivery vans, 3/4's of them didn't make it to 50.000 kilometers without a gearbox problem.
I bought another Fiat as here in France 82% of all MH are Fiat and when they work properly they are a nice drive. Ford have other engine problems which cost even more. Mercedes are nice but expensive.
I wouldn't loose sleep over it, at the end of the day its only money. When they make you an offer they usually build in to the quote an allowance for any problems they don't see at the time.
My previous van I bought for twenty seven thousand form a Motor Home agent. When I was at the garage some months later the previous owner saw the van and came running across and started talking. He asked me what I had paid. He was furious as he got twenty thousand when he traded it in on a new van.

Far better to sell privately disclosing all known faults or inconveniences than trading in if possible same price or better - buy from trader with no px and get discount or add on's a lot better deal

i am not sure they will even drive it ,mine was not driven when i traded it in

I understand guys from what they offered me to what it will retail at is around£6000-£8000 so plenty for them to play with don’t you think ?
