Hi funsters having picked up my new to me van today it has 1 gadlow cylinder in it and I've never used this system before im going to get a calor bottle as a spate and have read the thread about a change over valve but is there anything I need to checking as I'm guessing some components must have a shelf life

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
I have one Gaslow and one Calor both connected to the regulator. I don't need a changeover valve as if the Gaslow ran out I would close its valve and open the valve on the Calor cylinder. Since installing it 8 years ago the Gaslow has never run out as I top it up as soon as it gets low. I don't want an auto changeover as I'd like to know when/if the Gaslow ever ran out.

I'd not bother with the spare Calor bottle.

I have the same set up, one Gaslow, one Calor as the emergency backup.
In 6 years of ownership we have never used the Calor bottle.

So next year I'll use the Calor bottle until it runs out and then replace it with the smallest of the GasLow bottles as the emergency back up.

Even in full Winter mode running heating on gas when there is a meter of snow outside, the little back up bottle would last a couple of days, and in summer it might even last a couple of weeks. More than enough time to find a fuel station with LPG to fill the big tank.

Wow - it's 6am and with jet lag I misread the title as Glasgow Virgin!

Thought that would be a rare thing, and was disappointed when I opened the thread. :X3:

Long time
We have 2 Gaslow 11kg bottles but one will last us about 4-5 weeks in summer using fridge, hot water once a day for about 2 hours and cooking/kettle.
Using your van for a two week holiday in the summer your one Gaslow (is it 11kg?) will be ok, you won’t need a Calor bottle as well.
You’ll find the Gaslow a lot cheaper to use than Calor!

Since 2008 & many years tugging
We have 2 x 14kg Alugas bottles wouldn't want any Lees, been close to running out a couple of times when we have been in remote areas.

Be aware bottles, hoses, regulators & changeover valves has a 10 year life at which they should be replaced.

3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I just keep my calor in the cupboard disconnected. If I need to use it takes just a minute to connect up to the regulator. I have only done it once in 3 years. Just keep an eye on the gaslow gauge and refill before you run out. Just like you do with the petrol tank in a car

That's what I have. I use the 2.9 kg mainly for the outside cooker in the summer and as a back up for the 11kg bottle in the winter. The only time that I would take a 6kg calor instead of the small gaslow, is if we were going to spend over a month on the Orkney Islands (where there is no LPG) in the colder part of the year.
