Ok, I was trying to be lazy

We did one of our recent trip in Indochina. It was in the U shaped lounge. Not sure I do that again though. Doesn’t feel the same when not MH related.

Yes that’s the advantage of them. I had done a blog for the family so it wasn’t a massive task. But I don’t think the interest is as great. That said we got some good suggestions.

Boys Mr porky , recounting a trip to Bali for your entertainment:

My late father had spent time in Bali in the late 50's, before it became Australia's Benidorm and the West had treated the indigenous people with contempt. At that time wood carvings were genuine, we have a few.

I had a short stay at the Oberoi in Denpaser https://www.oberoihotels.com/hotels-in-bali/ en route back to Oz after a trouble shooting fix on an aerial ropeway in the jungle in Indonesia.

Re the wood carvings and batik, beware if you buy at the volcano that what is given you wrapped up is what you think you bought. Once the tourists are back at their hotel and unwrap, often it is nothing like what they saw on the shelf.

The night market in Denpaser is a sensory treat. I had a teetotal, very religious, strait laced colleague with me on his first trip out of Oz. As we walked the market he got befriended by a guy who guided him slowly to a whorehouse and asked him if he liked his sister and wanted to buy. That was cruel on my part, but you have to learn these things

Unfortunately I had contracted dysentery whilst in the jungle and lost 5 stone rapidly, often not quite getting to the bathroom in time. At the Oberoi I tried dinner in the Kura Kura Restaurant, but had to run to my lanai. Yet another pair of trousers and pants straight down the bog. Second time I was in India. Not the best way to lose weight, but these things happen

Speaking of wood carvings. We visited a wood carver off the beaten track by one of the large paddy fields outside Ubud and came home with a 3ft statue, head and six wall carvings. Not my choice! The overhead locker on the plane was full.

There is a massive department store type thing on the main road from Seminyak to Denpasar. It sells everything from food to all things Indonesian. Including local clothing. It can get full with locals in the evening. But it's definitely worth a trip.

I'll find the location and let you know.

Late to this thread but just spent two days reading it from the start. Thoroughly enjoyed your posts Mr porky Gareth & Phil looks like you enjoyed the trip and didn't let the snagging get you down. Not sure I wouldn't have been given the dealer earache! I can do the France trip for you by proxy, ferry booked in June. I will run a thread as I would like suggestions (first trip to France in MH) but I don't think my food porn will be any where near as good as yours (though my Lasagne might give you a run for your money). We did Bali last July and can recommend Ubud - Monkey Forest as well. We hired a driver as we didn't want to risk the madness of hiring a car and driving ourselves and it wasn't that expensive. Taxi everywhere else dirt cheap. On a Spanish theme we stayed at the Costa Plenty ran by an Australian which was very good (can't afford the Oberoi). Drink lots of Bintang and have fun.

We did a visa run to Bali from Thailand a few years ago.
As said Ubud was good, as well as culture some good bars & resturants. Some nice walks around the paddy fields to the north.

Not so keen on Kuta, overun run with Ausies.

Some nice resorts on the west coast of the peninsula south of Kuta.
