Ironic that Russia & Belarus have the cheapest fuel prices, but surprising also how expensive some EU countries have become.
Have a look below

But if using something like Revolut exchange rate the price in France would be cheaper or the same against UK

would be around £1.57 on today's rates for €1.86 in Calais centre . checking today's Intermarche prices cheapest in Calais area (Marquise) €1.73 so on par with uk if you get a good exchange rate

Hoe does that pricing happen?
Fuel levy in the UK is 53p per litre, plus 20% VAT

So basis a £1.50 per litre pump price, 30p is VAT and 53p is fuel levy meaning the base price, including the sellers margins is about 67p a litre in the UK.

it's about 20p a litre cheaper in the middle east, so it shows our sellers margins are higher than they need to be, even when you include the additional shipping costs.

If price is £1.50 a litre VAT is 25 pence. You divide a VAT inclusive price by 6 to to work out what the VAT is.

errr, no.

If VAT is 20% then you divide by 5 (20+20+20+20+20=100)
Therefore VAT on £1 base item is 20p = £1.20p

Regardless of price I will always fill up before any ferry or tunnel crossing.

I want to get on my way as soon as I land without thinking of getting fuel.

If it costs an extra £10 or so to top up so be it

Wow, it's £1.48.7 to £1.53.9 up here in Harrogate. Didn't see any below £1.53 yesterday driving up from Dorset.

If you are coming down the A2 towards Dover the cheapest fuel is at Tesco at Gillingham, it's off junction 4.

Just filled up at ASDA £1.477 ready for crossing to France, Newhaven to Dieppe on Friday, do I fill up before I cross or are there bargains to be had over the water?

No diesel bargains in France at the moment I'm afraid. You may as well fill up before you cross.

A16 on Saturday diesel was €2.399, yes really. Only noticed it that high at that one service station. The one with the aire before Abbeville

As can imagine I didn’t put much in.

Later on closer to Rambouillet I paid €1.859 at an intermarche.
