Morning all. First night survived but front screen has a lot of condensation...heater on and engine running but not clearing...any ideas or suggestions.

Finally got to fit the Extra Long Screen Cover today [just before the Wind and Rain returned on what was forecast to be a bright and sunny, wind free day ...]. Easy to fit, even when dodging oncoming traffic on the A921, including an Ambulance that appeared to be looking for business ...], and the straps that attach to the velcro on the underside [over the Scuttle area] have plenty of elastic to enable the hooks to clip over the inside lip of the bottom section of the Bumper.

We also managed to remove, fold and rebag the Cover standing on the footpath, without the usual scrambling about on hands and knees, so that was a bonus! There are 2 magnets supplied to enable the internal screen material that wraps around the Door frame to be attached to the cab door metal frame, but we didn't need these [unable to use them because the door upholstery protrudes too far].

Really pleased with the Screen Cover, one of those rare purchases that work easily first time without having to decipher the instructions and then swearing and struggling ... And no sense of dread at the prospect of having to do battle with it to fit the Cover in a 'live' environment ... (y)

I’m looking for an external screen cover at the moment. Looking at Minster, Polar screens. Also considering the Taylormade ones.
Minster make a darker grey one now and that is the one I’m fancying.
Does anyone here have any thoughts on these two manufacturers? The price is around the same.
Ours is Polar with black front and silver underneath, works a treat for us.

They make me feel claustrophobic. I like to open the blinds and see out without going outside. I paid for a big screen and want my panoramic view available as soon as I get out of bed. Most mornings there is little if any condensation which clears on it’s own and if not the Karcher sorts it out. Also there is the hassle of storing wet covers when you move on.

Why would I want to bother with screen covers? However I understand that some people love them so each to their own.

Ok understood, most screens do have a front drop down panel so you can have a view through your front pano screen 👍🏻👍🏻

Taylormade supply a velcro strap to fold the Cover in half if storage is tight [and our 5.99m Van with a Broom Cupboard rather than Garage is]; they recommend leaving the wet Cover in the Shower area when travelling, and it should dry easily with the shaking of the Van to run the drips off, plus the warmth from the Cab Heater.

Our last trip 2 weeks ago was to Tentsmuir Forest and the screen condensation [more really thick mist than running water] took an age to clear. Sun appeared around 8am [weak!], but we still had misty patches after 11am [local site and no pressure to vacate the pitch, so very leisurely departure], that we helped to clear by leaving both cab doors wide open to balance the internal & external temperatures and taking advantage of a cross breeze to increase airflow.

I used an offcut of pipe insulation to stuff around the floor gaps where the warm air pipes emerge [also stops me losing screws when carrying out running repairs!] to seal draughts

I’m the same, I fancy the minster one in dark grey. I rang the Manchester office today but was advised to ring the Telford office but on another day as the lady to speak to wasn’t there this afternoon.

I was recommended Rainbow Screens when I first got the motorhome, when i've needed to use them the difference in condensation or not has been 100%

So from personal experience and also seeing other makes i'd definitely recommend Rainbow, when I have used them and its rained it really does simply run off, think of the old gaberdine material. They are imho an excellent insulator as well, the cab area feels a lot warmer

Another vote for Rainbow Screens.

I’m the same, never take them away with us.

We use kitchen roll. No drips or running down at the bottom of the screen using that. Job done in a minute and then aircon on for a minute or two before we move off. 👍

Touch wood, we have never woken up to any condensation on the windows which makes it even odder that we get condensation over every surface, doors, cupboards, washroom sides etc in the winter if not using the van.

yes we also find it quite odd even in the summer to see the external window covers being applied as part of the initial pitch process - sometime with a small letter flap window but that only gives a very restricted view to what could be. We want great views out of the countryside and not bothered if a small minority want to be nosy although we do have vanity blind that comes up from the bottom. We find even in the coldest of nights leaving a skylight partly open not only gives a more comfortable nights sleep but nearly eliminates the condensation. If I were in a ski resort it might be different.

I have a massive sliding door (swish-bang! ;)) so no issue with getting all the view and light I want! And my front screen has velcro sides so I could fold a large section of it down should I wish, but I never do.

We have a made to measure external screen for our Hymer but we rarely use it. Our Hymer has Alde heating which includes convectors at the base of the windscreen that direct warm air to the windscreen, so we don't usually get much condensation, and it only takes a few seconds to clear with our Karcher window vac.

I put mine on the other day for the first time since March. Summer months doesn't create the same condensation issues and keeping the warmth in is less problematic. I tend to "wild" less outside summer months so there isn't the security aspect either.

Looking on the Taylormade site, the long cover was £165 and on the Minster site their long cover is £145. not a great deal of difference but Minster do a very nice looking dark grey version. I'll give Minster a ring in the morning.
I’m looking for a cover for my a class
I’ve messaged minster twice but no response
did you get an answer from them, or are you going with Taylor made ?

If you buy a camping ground sheet with foil backing you can make an external blind really cheaply. Ann cut it to size and sewed bias banding round the edges to finish it off. She made 2 tabs to trap in the doors at the top and 2 ties to tie onto the mirrors, the wipers also hold it on of course. The foil does a fantastic job of reflecting the sun in Spain.

We prefer to use internal blinds when we can. They are faster and you don't have to worry about bringing a soggy screen in while it's blowing a gale and pee'ing it down. Also, when we wild camp, we can move on at shorter notice or peek out easily.

Yes, we get condensation on the windscreen. I have a pair of microfibre cloths. One has a waffle texture that absorbs loads of water. The other is more like a shammy that takes the rest of the moisture off. Both wring out really easily and are dry in a few hours.

If we start using the van when it's below freezing, I'll probably invest in an screen.

I didn’t ring them today I was too busy. I’ll ring tomorrow. I do have the number for a lady called Caroline at the Telford office if you want it. When I rang the Manchester office yesterday I was told that she was the person to speak to.

I’ve had a Minster cover for three years and can thoroughly recommend them. Excellent product in my view.
We never get condensation on the windscreen now, despite Mrs P having the heating on at 90 degrees……at least thats what it feels like!!!

On the niessmann with roller blind down at night there is only the faintest mist on the screen ,but this wasn’t in use so next time no problem ,

Using external screens isn't just about reducing/preventing condensation, it's also about keeping the heat in the MH so it's more comfortable and/or not using so much gas/diesel to keep warm as well as keeping the heat out in the summer which really DOES make a heck of a difference.

We have had external screens for many of our campers/MHs and when the temperature starts to get into lower figures you can't beat them especially if you use your cab seats as you can feel the difference having them on makes.

Now we have an A-class I looked to get a set for it but they were very expensive and would also take a while to be delivered, however I managed to get a second hand set, not for our MH, but a similar one, so have adapted them to fit, the only 'fault' is that we have a very deep windscreen (the cab shelf slopes down towards the front to allow for greater vision) so we have a small gap at the bottom but this is okay as it still gives us privacy and allows some light in, if we want it to be dark we can also close the front blinds too.

When we use them if they are wet we have the knack of being able to fold them quickly and stuff them in a large waterproof bag (Ikea bags are quite good but not fully waterproof due to the seams) and dump them in the garage or on the rear bed where they dry off.
