French Aire night fright

I find I can never see my own updates until I click on the little "+" icon in the top right hand corner of the app, but they are there.

I submitted one last week and it was online within minutes, but I could only see it after clicking on that icon. Checked again this morning, still doesn't come up in the app by default, but its there when I click "+".

Maybe they don't show you your own reviews by default because they assume you already know the contents!

I've not had a problem seeing any reviews that I've made, as you say they come up straight away it's when I've submitted a request or whatever it's called to have information about the spot changed, it's then that nothing seems to get actioned. In the past I've submitted changes to various spots we've stayed at re spaces available, length etc and none where actioned so gave up and tried to make sure I commented about the change in my review.

Thanks for your reply and information. We are at a house sit in Burgundy right now but plan to go down through France to Spain in a few weeks. We are looking to stay for a 3 month block if we can, and if the price is right. We have heard that Pinoso has a site called Tranquilo (or similar), that have long term places and are not expensive. Have you heard of this one or do you have any other suggestions? We would like to be somewhere warm for the winter! Many thanks-Jennifer
Unfortunately youre really asking the wrong person now. France is my forte. Spain is not my cup of tea. Many will answer you though
Bon Voyage or Buen Viaje as they say where you are heading !

Ok thanks- when I know the route we are taking through France I will let you know as we will do several stops on the way down ?

Last week I stopped at a Park4night spot, it was late, waste ground next to a beach just outside Valencia. There was another MH there and a few cars, very quiet. I was alone waiting for my son who was at a college in the city and looked at the reviews for the place - "frequented by homosexuals and prostitutes, busy with cars coming and going in the night".
Went out for a meal with my son, he took a taxi to his digs, I went back to the van. My son was horrified when I told him of the reviews.
No alarm on my van, no straps or extra locks - slept like a baby. (y)

yeah but who with

ProPlates are designed to stop just that.

ProPlates

maz - interesting option - have you fitted these? Do you have to remove all the internal door cards to get to the bar of door handles?

I have fitted proplates.
You have to remove the large fiat armrests and then the door inner casing. Then unbolt the actual door handle mechanism and slip the proplate on from the outside. Relatively straightforward.
You will find there is a little plastic cover to remove which allows access to one of the fixings.

I bought 2 but found there is no mechanism on the passengers side door to guard against but fitted the plate anyway.

They supply an additional guard plate fitted internally but this was so hard to fit I discaded it.

It's easy to see how a very fine blade inserted just below the external rim of the handle can trip the central locking.

Criminals strip doors to find out the easiest way in.

Proplates I think are essential.

Thanks for sharing that ?. I do have a Growler alarm fitted, but I'm guessing that won't trigger until they've opened the central locking and then attempt to open the door.

Hopefully the toerags will be put off by the Growler warning stickers but Proplates might prevent them attempting an entry and damaging the van, before triggering the alarm

It's worth noting that if you have a PVC with a Fiat set of rear doors, they are just as vulnerable.
Proplates also fit the rear door mech.

Suggesting you didnt have any straps at a place "frequented by homosexuals" may be a bit of a faux pas !

I’m sorry you have had frightening experience but glad that you are beefing up your security and carrying on with your adventure and travels!

On our trip in Feb March this year we discovered on our last day at Calais our habitation door lockk which we locked every time wasn’t workingfrom the outside and could be opened!
We must have been travelling aroundFrance and Spain like that for a month leaving the van all over the place .
Luckily we had no scrotes trying the door !!
If we had known it would have upped our stress level I’m sure!
Anyway mended as soon as we got home and all secure now!!

Safe and happy travels!!?

You are going to get numerous replies that tell you that there is a MAJOR difference between the aires you find on motorways and the aires you find in stunningly beautiful villages and towns. The main part is safety which you have, unfortunately found out.
You need to go on to www.searchforsites.co.uk or download campercontact or park4night as a first instance and choose your aires from there based upon previous peoples ratings.
In the meantime, let us know whereabouts you intend to stay and we can advise you of nice ones near there.

Bon voyage and at least nobody hurt and presume nothing taken
Hello again
Do you know either of these Aires my husband has looked out for us to stop at on our way down to Spain? As we are in the RV, we have to be able to get LPG too so the Aires have to be on the larger roads like A or D (I think!) . Esplanade de la gare 43/60 La Chaise -Diea on D906, or 82 Avenue Jean Jaures 12100 Millace, Bellas 12150 (3 km from A75 on D995.....
Jennifer

If there locks on the Monaco are anything like mine then they are near on useless, I chain ours from the inside plus an alarm on the door.
Do you have a Monico RV too? When we bought ours we were told they were quite popular and lots of people had them in Europe. I know we have only been traveling for a month, but ours seems the biggest motorhome around and we are wondering if we were a bit ambitious getting a vehicle as wide on the European roads. It is fine on the A roads and most of the D roads (I think), but finding a parking place big enough is not always easy. I'd like to know how you get in yours :)

sorry-get on in yours!

Quite popular and lots of people in Europe have them, I am afraid that's a slight exaggeration. :roflmto:
Mines a winnebago by the way.
At 102" plus mirrors you are the widest vehicle on the road, trucks with their 8' box are only 96", French tolls are tight, very tight.
Did santander to Lisbon and then spent a month travelling earlier this year, never saw another yank, just been to Dusseldorf for show, spent 3 weeks in total, never saw another one apart from in the shows carpark. Rare as hens teeth I would say.
At only 30' parking on most sites isn't to bad, if you have a biggy then you will have more of a problem.
Mways are fine A's and D's not so much because of the mirrors, over £300 or more each to replace, since 05 I have replaced 3.

Travelling in an RV isn't the best, but on site your home, magic.

The one at La Chaise Diea is also a car park. We avoid these as they fill up with cars and you can’t get on with a motorhome.

Is this the other one? Campercontact is very useful.

Thank you so much for your reply. You are right that once parked up somewhere-it is great to be in an RV and we love having the space. As we have sold our home now the RV is our home for the next few years, so we have to get used to parking it-I think ours is 33 foot long-this is not the problem as you say-it is the width. We have been through some toll roads and it is really tight but so far we have managed. I would appreciate any advice you may have as you know we are very new to this and it is the first camping thing we have ever bought-maybe we should have thought more of parking and getting to places, but too late now. We have a 300cc scooter on the back so once parked up, we can get into the towns and villages if we need to. We are at a house sit in Burgundy now and will soon be traveling down to Spain so will be looking for some nice Aires or campsites to stay in. We have bought one replacement mirror at £240 -but were able to get a second hand one , which was lucky. Thanks-Jennifer

There is a good aire just over the Spanish border at Teurel, its at the Dino park, plus there is a garage at the entrance that sells lpg, god pric also and diesel. Supermarkets close by. No water or dump but OK for an rv as loads of space.
Ps it's free as well.

Thanks very much for this-will get out the map and check where it is. I appreciate this information :)

The police station is just across the main road also where thete is another smaller aire but a bit small for an rv, the Dino park aire also has a section for lorries closer to the petrol station. And macdonalds
It's an un official aire but used a lot by mhomes, we have stopped there, the police drive around but no issues.
Should have said that Teruel is on the northern side of Spain, on the bordeaux side of the run down through France.

If you are coming down the A75 and crossing into Spain there is a very popular aire at Gruissan, near Narbonne.
Lots of big rigs, often towing trailers, come here en-route to and from Spain.
It’s an easy drive, about 10 miles, from the motorway and there is loads of space.
€9 per night inc water and dump, there are also showers and toilets.

It’s not a bad spot to spend a few days if you’re not in a rush.

Richard
PS. It’s the aire at the marina, Le Quatre Vents. (Or similar spelling :))

I don't know if you said it already (I haven't read the whole thread) but if RV not too long to park in front of my house you can also come to my place (Balma next to Toulouse). If too long then I can park you on the stadium parking place. I'm the stadium minder . It's free, gate closed every night, gendarmes and army are my close neighbours so feel free to come . Give a shout on here using @ then without any space my username yodeli. Fortunatly it's not dangerous to park everywhere in France!

Amicalement
Frankie ;)

Thanks so much-I think we are coming down from Nolay to Macon, on the A6 e 15 and then our first stop I think will be about Valence or Montelemar ? I haven't checked out the Aires on route yet, then it should be about Nimes, Narbonne-yes! We want to go to Carcosonne if we can get an Aire close to there. Thanks very much for that information :)

There is an Aire in Carcassonne that is within easy walking distance of the city walls. Search in Campercontact for its number 50225. We stayed there for a couple of nights.

Also another vote for the Aire de Quatre Vents in Gruissan. Views over the lagoon and easy walk into new Marina and old town.

Wow! that is amazingly nice of you! Sadly I don't think we are going close to you on this trip, (which is our first ever-just had the RV for 2 months!), and it is very costly to drive the thing! If my husband changes the route I will get back to you but I think it is straight down from Nolay (where we are house sitting at the moment), and down the A6 E15 to the A7 into Spain -Narbonne, Perpignan etc. I want to be a bit more careful where we choose the Aires after our last experience but really appreciate your offer. I wish we were going closer to you. Many thanks!
