Free pick up Manchester Airport ??

I drop off & pick up at whatever terminal wife & daughter's use at Heathrow, in the motorhome. It would never occur to me to park in some obscure spot, or have to pay for the privelige. I've even dropped off nephew' wife & his sister using an aric. I expect to be able to pick up drop off & shop where I want not miles away.
Personally I'd take the number plates off & run in as it is far cheaper + no points than give anything to the scum trying to exhort "payments" for not providing any sort of service on roads already paid for, & continuing to be paid for by the taxpayer & which the airport should be paying towards for allowing them to use it for customers.

That`s an interesting concept, The airport being not actually part of the highway system. ie a private place, So not having a Number plate would raise an interesting situation, as long as you replaced it to use the highways, in theory they wouldn't be able to touch you?. A "tear off" film would be all you needed?. or even gaffer tape?.

Whilst I am not advocating it it would raise an interesting debate?.

Unless it triggered a terrorist attack response if seen on live t.v.
I believe there are armed officers around.

Does that Irish airline to$$er own Manchester Airport now.
You'll be charged to use the access roads next.

Like anywhere else with public access you need to be road legal so, as its an airport, you would be nicked by British transport police.

Are you sure the BT Plod are responsible for airport`s?. I thought they where more the Railway Police?, and Airports employed their own security? Most only issue PCN`s the same a private car parks.?

Mind I am Only :reel:

Private Airport security would never be licence to carry automatic firearms.
If you look around you often see a copper with his finger on the trigger guard.

I don't think you could drive a van into the pickup areas at Manchester, they are all multistorey car park heights to suit cars only.

Very true when I think about it. But they are surely fully trained regular fire arms officers? under the control of the home office or at the very least Manchester Constabulary?.

Edit:- Interesting read here:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airport_policing_in_the_United_Kingdom. from which it would apear that they a "Territorial Police" (non regular) under the control of the Airport authority but answerable to the Secretary of State, and thereby allowed to be deployed armed..

As are the police at rail stations.
British transport police is just another branch of the regular British Police Force.

How exactly would taking the number plates off help in getting through automatic payment barriers without paying?

Bl***y rip off

It’s estimated that T1 collection parking alone makes £800-£3,000 an hour dependent on volumes.

On average £135,000 per week.

That’s without T3 kiss and fly and T2’s revenues

Off to York for a couple of days but have to pick my mate up at Manchester Airport, we need a quick pick up and I wondered if he walked down Ringway road towards The Manchester Pub would I be ok picking him up along that stretch of road. Its not about saving money we really can't afford to spend time looking for paid parking.

You don't have to park up, if he phones you when he is out of the arrivals area you can drive in, pick him up and pay the £3 at the exit. You just have to wait somewhere prior to his arrival that doesn't have parking restrictions.

I have parked along the Styall Mill Road when collecting from an early flight, just along Styall Road past the garage and car parks. Waited for a call to say they had cleared customs then picked up.
As Jimbohorlicks says. This worked ok for me.
Also she can walk to the station where you can collect her at the taxi rank.

Also realised it's and old thread.

Just pay- probably much cheaper than her getting a cab?

Double yellows all around the airport, cameras galore, and if you try to pick up at the departure side its a minimum £100 fine.
£3 is cheaper than a fine or a long long walk. (y)
3 pound,,the price of a coffee ,surely no ones that hard up,??BUSBY.

Without wishing to be pedantic and for the third time on this thread, pick up is £4.50 for 30 mins
One and a half cups of coffee then..Annoying having to pay to pick someone up at an airport but it's not as if it's something you do on a daily basis and that cost is negligible in the cost of running a motorhome or car,,BUSBY.

Car parking/airport costs is something I price into the price of my holiday like insurance, then again I'm perfect.

Apologies, the last time I went it was £3.
And sure it was 15 mins then the price went up.

So everyone is convinced the current solution is a rip-off/scandalous etc etc etc ......so whats the solution?.

Lets assume we are Chief Exec of Manchester airport for the day ...what would we do instead ?

Remember you've got 30m passengers a year, 80k a day so maybe 20,000 cars paying £4.50 per trip to drop off ....£90k of revenue a day and minimal hold ups (at the airport at least) as no one hangs around trying to save money....but you have limited space, no more car parking space available ...what would you do ?

Well, if I were a foreign investor who came to Manchester. Had to pay £1 or €2, non returnable for a suitcase trolley. Get charged £4.50 for being collected by a car, to see the disgraceful state of our roads. Let alone the amount of rubbish on them.! That’s not forgetting the disgusting way you are treated by security and border force...

Probably turn back and look elsewhere in Europe.
