France to Reopen?

I'll ask my Sister in law. She lives in 🇫🇷
They don't really tell us about these things ... At the moment the concern is how to protect the French people. News are about who is going to stop working or what kind of shop/activity . New rules at work, new rules outside, where exactly they apply etc... What region is more at risk.
Up to now I didn't hear (not always listening properly but I understand French better than any of the English residents even if in another room, just like you do in English) anything related to UK borders.
Amicalement
Frankie

IMHO It will depend on the political situation. If Boris stops being difficult with their fishing licences .................
Probably not political just pragmatic health considerations as just like our hospitals there’s are pretty maxed out as well.

Honestly?? NO!
No one will play that game. Elections are in sight, and even if fishermen are important, it's not a big enough point to balance the possible raising % of risks to come if borders open. And this goes for French and for English!
Only my point of view though, but standing in queue for 2 to 4 hours outside a pharmacy to get tested, no one wants to see that waiting time go up

Do we really need to get into politics and blaming our Gov for the French restrictions. Can we add this sort of comment to the ban on Brexit comments. Many could easily strongly disagree with the above comment but this is not what I joined the site for!
I love visiting France. In fact I passed through a few weeks ago. But there has always been poltical needling between our politicians and theirs. Its been going on for years, well before EEC.

Edit to add. I have no issue with the brexit situation

Does anyone have any information on when/ if France might allow us to enter the country? I’ve got the tunnel booked for the 12th and spend time each day looking for any indication that I will be able to go, but I’ve not been able to find any info. Does anyone have any idea?
All depends on wether Macron is voted in again or if some right winger beats him 😀

There is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. In today's Le Figaro there is a report that the French Government has decided that it will relax slightly the Covid restrictions that apply to crossing the Channel by adding new categories to the definition of "raisons impérieuses" although details haven't been released yet. It's a small change in the right direction.

Not sure how relevant this is ..................................... (please don't shoot the Messenger  )

Thank you for the replies. It wasn't my intention to stir up political issues in posting, and I'd appreciate it if this thread wasn't used to vent about the relationship between the two countries.

I also noted that Germany lifted the ban yesterday, and hoped that France may follow suit fairly quickly, given that the rapid rise in Omicron cases in the UK was cited as the reason for the French restrictions, and it now feels like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted given the prevalence of Omicron in France now. What I'm finding frustrating is the difficulty in finding any mention of when France may review this decision - I know that the French travel industry are lobbying hard for this to be lifted - in some French ski resorts, UK nationals make up over 60% of the non domestic visitors, so this ban is hurting them hard.

I know that we have members on here who are resident in France, and wonder whether this issue is even being discussed in the French media?
Not that I have seen on France 24 or France Bleu

Policy decisions are totally political choices and determinations - totally made by the politicians you elect. You cannot take politics out of policy decisions. I suggest you do NOT ban useful facts based ... discussion on EU exit. If would be of great use to travellers as its BOTH Covid and Brexit - which have now totally changed European and international travel as we know it.👍

I think you will find that the uk gov gave in some weeks ago and most french fishermen have their licenses.

I was going on a 2 week skiing holiday on 13th January. The tunnel booking has been amended as far in advance as possible (September) hopefully then I can change it to next January. I have applied for deposit refunds for a campsite and aire. Now taking a package holiday to Italy. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi I live in France, it seems the "flurona" virus started in Israel and then Cameroon , where the carrier of the first case here came from. They have traced 12 cases who had contact and that's all. Macron , in a speech, says he will " piss off" ( his words not mine ) all those not vaccinated by making it illegal to enter any public space without proof of 3 jabs, and that a non vaccinated lateral flow test does not count as proof. He is trying to get this passed into law by the 15th January. There is no mention yet of lifting travel bans
I hope this helps

Unfortunately for us, Macron and Boris appear to like penis measuring contests.

Hmm, that is one contest that I definitely don't want to see!

Why on earth do you want to travel, surely the sensiable thing to do at this time is to say at home, boring yes but much safer.
I don't blame the french at all
Would you not travel to see penis measuring contests then?;)😁

Dalesguy, see you have just subscribed - welcome to MHFun.

You ask why we would want to travel at this time.

For many Funsters who are not young, the awareness that the time remaining to enjoy the things we bought our motorhomes for is reducing is a reason to do whatever may be possible to get back to travelling. Another incentive is for many to get away from the dreary winter weather we usually have in the UK.

Not everyone will agree with your view that it is much safer to stay at home. I regard our motorhome as a “Covid Bubble” and have no wish to take the risk of travelling with hundreds other folk in an aluminium tube in the air for several hours. The big advantage of using the Tunnel (once travel to France is again permitted) is that you remain in your vehicle for the duration of the trip and are able to minimise any social contact. Provided you are fully vaccinated, take the same precautions you would at home with social distancing etc I do not see how you are any more at risk than at home when travelling to Europe in a motorhome.

Of course, not everyone will agree with me either and we must all make our own judgements about what we regard as sensible and safe.

Was booked today on the tunnel but going to cancel as I have already booked on the Brittany ferries to Spain in February,
It’s anyone guess what will happen in the next month with any country in Europe,
Me the same due to go on the 9th now moved to September booked on the 10th February ferry.

We feel safer holidaying in Spain than staying at home, less contact with people and if we socialise it’s outdoors.
Just as soon as we’re allowed through France we’ll be there.
Try it 👌

Surely most travelers that we might meet are fully jabbed, as that is generally a prerequisite to be able to cross borders. I’me fairly sure that’s not the case in our local supermarket, 25% of the Feckers don’t even wear a mask, that definitely would not be tolerated in Spain.

Can feel a riot coming on in France😂😂
Given the percentage of fully vaccinated they would be on a losing wicket. The anti vax protests were pretty small in actual numbers but no doubt they will make their displeasure felt lol
