France announces it is putting UK on its list of countries from which travellers are obliged to quarantine for 10 days due to concerns over the rise in the Indian variant.

Here is what I just got from the link of the Ambassy

Declare the place of quarantine as one's own MH.

Do the French really expect you to quarantine if one lands at Dunkirk and gets on the M/way to Belgium?

If you are in another country - outside the EU
Since January 31, 2021, any entry into France and any exit from French territory to or from a country outside the European area (European Union, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Vatican City and Switzerland) are prohibited, except: overriding personal or family reasons, emergency health reasons or professional reasons that cannot be postponed.

Arrivals from Australia, South Korea, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, UK or Singapore.
If you come from one of these seven countries you can come to France.
You will have to comply with health control measures to enter France (PCR test and declaration of honor).
You will need to self-isolate for seven days upon arrival.
The compelling reason obligation does not apply.
Your trip must nevertheless fall under one of the exemptions, and you will be subject to the health control obligations below (PCR test, declaration of honor and isolation period)

(Reuters) - France on Wednesday declared a mandatory quarantine period for people coming from Britain due to the increasing prevalence there of a highly contagious coronavirus variant first detected in India.

France follows Austria, which on Tuesday said it was banning direct flights and tourist visits from Britain, and Germany which on Friday said anyone entering from the United Kingdom would have to quarantine for two weeks on arrival.

"There is a new situation with the progression of the so-called Indian variant in the United Kingdom," said government spokesman Gabriel Attal. "(France) will set up compulsory isolation for people coming from the United Kingdom."

Attal did not say how long the quarantine period would last. There would be more details in the next few hours, he added.

Thing is , I'm not sure you'd be allowed to stay in your moho in the first place. I would imagine (didn't look for info on the subject) that you would be asked to stay in a specific hotel for the quarantine time

Oh well, that's our trip off. Unless they have a change of heart. It does seem to me to be politically inspired. A huge percentage of our population are fully vaccinated, many living nowhere near the spiked areas. You'd think they'd welcome us with open arms (ie most of us have inocculated arms, unlike theirs)

So the above is a translation from French

Do I read it that if you enter from a EU country no problem. So Harwich to Holland turn right into Belgium and France this will mean no quarantine.

Don't think it's politically inspired. The French do tend to act defensively [BSE Beef Ban springs to mind] and 'UK Indian Variant' plus the manner in which it was acquired has played into French hands. France also has its own Bordeaux Variant. Germany and Austria have also banned UK travellers, so it's more widespread than just 'those pesky French'.

I do not think this restriction will last until the school holidays, there’ll be too many reaching for their wallets and putting pressure on the politicians over there by then

I predicted this action in the Indian Variant thread on May 16th. But I also expect that the EU will see the Indian variant spread quickly there too, which may well cause the EU to stay on the Red List for a while yet.

It's going to be constant hope / despair for those wanting to get to France this summer I think.

Glad we are going somewhere else 👍

No chance we will be going anywhere near France until their vaccination rate improves dramatically.
As of 24th May UK was 56.26% vaccinated and France was a pathetic 34.56% vaccinated. We're also accelerating our vaccinations whilst France is slowing down due to their strong anti vax culture. Indian variant will spread there much faster than in the UK.

Add to that the vindictive attitude of the French Government now that we are out of their expensive, unelected club.
No thanks this year!

I can't find anything about the change in rules...

Me neither and I have set up email notifications from Gov UK on any changes to French Covid rules.

Look at this ! In essence is not being applied to people transitioning through to another country.

The information was found on a French website, (I don't trust the government website for showing up the latest stuff).

As I have said before, all my holiday bookings for school holidays rolled forward from last year, but I won’t need a politician to tell me whether it’s safe or not to go. Plenty of time left for it to go either way and will see nearer the time.

It's on the Beeb now.
