Forget gassing to steal your Rolex, this watch is worth more & has been stolen.

It's not worth a million quid no matter what it's made of. A million quid is about a lifetimes earnings (40 x £25k) ?

It's worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it, might not be worth £1M you and me but somebody making £3M a year ;) and if somebody else will pay £2M for it in a few years time it was a bargain, somebody paid $3.6M a few years ago for a Platinum Patek Philippe it's all just about numbers.

not worn a watch since 1976 when l moved to Cornwall bliss wot no tracker on it

Stepdaughter #2 sent her Rolex for servicing.
So she didn't miss it while it was away she bought another.

My husband likes nice watches - he has a few expensive ones... nothing in the league of the one under discussion though :)

I liken it to a woman and her jewellery... a man has few options in the frippery department so I think an expensive watch fills the need for adornment!

Worked in Azerbaijan for 3 years words cannot describe how stunningly beautiful the countryside is.
Azerbaijan certainly looks beautiful when I watch the F1 race from Baku, they often do a feature of the surrounding countryside.
I really don't think a 22 year old will be going to Ibiza to look at the stunning countryside somehow.
Does Azerbaijan have 24hr entertainment, beach life and half naked girls?
From what i know of the country they're only now accepting men can wear shorts.

I wonder if the mugger knew what he had got, probably flogged it for £20 in the market:D

Never having any inclination to buy or wear any jewelry, or watches, what is the attraction to having them?
Before anyone goes off saying here he goes again , this is a serious question.

Fair enough question... For me its the pleasure of owning something beautiful and of fantastic quality... whether its watches, jewellery or anything else for that matter.

I like watches and have a few...

but how can a 22yr old afford to walk around with a 1m watch... mummy and daddy...?

One of my nephews 19 year old class mates drives a BMW i8 pays £14k a year to insure it and thinks nothing of it, all self earn't, the wonders of YouTube and Instagram, he has shed loads of money, will probably be able to afford a million pound watch in 3 years time.

I haven’t worn a watch for many years,as I don’t see the need. Phone, car,iPad,they all show the time.
I did once have an imitation Rolex that was given to me by my brother when he returned from Hong Kong. A mate of mine, who has more money than sense, said “well,if youve got one,Im having one”. He went and paid about £20000 for his. To this day, I don’t think he knows mine’s a fake.
But I do think some watches are a nice adornment for a man to wear, though certainly not those huge silly ones with 4or 5 dials on.
Each to their own I say.

Not sure what you do know it was a Russian state for many years and is a very liberated upcoming country beachwear is much the same as any U.K. or med or wherever beach, bikinis, topless, even nude, men in skimpy shorts etc. In the towns most dress as us westerners do. They are a wonderfully friendly mixed race of people.

I have amongst others a limited edition Bremont codebreaker which is a beautiful thing and a piece of history,

OK £10k is a lot of money for a watch but it is worth more than that now, so I can have my cake and eat it.

quite understand the investment part , its the wearing that i dont get.

With a carbon fibre case every watch is unique as the pattern will never repeat, the case is made from alternating layers of unidirectional carbon fibres at 0/90 degree, when this is machined the pattern that you see is created by the individual layers of carbon as they reflect differently.

View attachment 313621

If you look at the case above you can see that the machining of the central area has only disturbed a few layers of carbon so we can tell that the case was pressed as a blank with some curved shape but when you get down to the strap fixing which is machined at an angle relative to the face all you see is stripes, these stripes are still the individual layers of carbon but at a different angle, you only see the fibres that are parallel to the machined face the ones running 0 deg or inline with the strap are only showing the end grain of the fibre which doesn't reflect light, each fibre will be 5 microns (5/1000 mm) in diameter and each layer most likely 0.1mm which equates to a pre-preg fibre of 100g/sqm.

Sorry am I boring you :D2

Have you never wanted to own something nice?
That's still not what I asked, owning, investing, looking at, fair enough, I buy tractors for the same reason, wearing jewelry is just asking to get robbed , can't see any other reason.

At this very second I have on my wrist a tiny engine made in Switzerland in 1971 which has to be lubricated every few years and beats 36,000 times an hour all day every day. I take pleasure each time I look at it. Horses for courses.

I guess there is a chance of being robbed for what you are wearing but that's the risk you take when you decide to wear something you like and like wearing, that is one reason we don't wear Rolex though as they are just too recognisable, we had a friend who was mugged in London for her Gold and Diamond dot Rolex.

Don’t they steal vehicles?

Wait till tractors are worth a few bob and low life want to take yours ?

Nice but not really my style ?
I liked the Bletchley park story behind it and the brand is British so that ticked the patriotic box as well and then Jen gave me a choice, top up my ISA or buy the watch and it seemed rude not to.

I think I have worn it 3 times so getting my moneys worth :D2 don't tell anybody though as I will sell it one day as unworn as the original strap has never been buckled up.

Only the ill informed think quality crafted watches are mere items for telling the time, and only the uneducated think slapping a brand name on a watch elevates a timepiece beyond the mundane.

A car is a car yet some spend 10x 100x to get a Ferrari over a Fiat.
A phone is a phone but people are willing to many times the price of an Alcatel to get an Apple.

You either "get" watches, or you don't.
Neither position is right or wrong.

It is a beautiful engineering masterpiece...
But that aside, the very first thought that popped into my head was Ibeza ? Really ??
But then I started to think a bit more... If I was selling drugs, where would I find a ready made constantly replacing market of 19 / 30 somethings ?

I have a suspicion someone will be on every cops radar for a while, and it won't be the pick pocket !
