For all Yorkshire souls

Now look. Am I a Yorkshire soul or what. Borne in Yorkshire at the age of 0. Lived there until I was 11, and moved sarth cos they did. I spoke Yorkshire in the school playground for about 3 weeks, survived that. So, is it OK if I enjoy these Yorkshire jokes (I do). I feel a southerner (ie, my wife). Where do I fit in? You guys don;t realise what it's like!
Yep. You’re a Tyke. It can’t be washed off fortunately

A wise man's advice to his son on leaving home for the first time.
Stood me in good stead all mi life.

'Ear all, see all, say nowt;
Eat all, sup all, pay nowt;
And if ivver tha does owt fer nowt
– Allus do it fer thissen

I have been trying to think of something funny or rude to say about yorkshire, but the truth is the parts I have seen make it the best county in England. The people have been friendly and I will happily go back there again anytime. I am sorry though I have to throw a caveat into my previous comment. Sheffield, I'm sorry but well I'm just sorry.

I have a problem getting the French to understand me, they tell me it’s my Yorkshire accent that causes the problem. The fact that my French ain’t brilliant doesn’t help.

ive been holding my tongue about Sheffield and South Yorkshire. I apologise in advance if I upset people, but to a proper Yorkshireman there is no such place as South Yorkshire, it’s just a figment of some politicians imagination. I assume that Sheffield would have been in West Riding, but I may be wrong. As East Riding born, (Bridlington), I now live in North Yorkshire, but where we live was originally in West Yorkshire.
Get your head around that.

Aye you right. There’s no such place as South Yorkshire. Politicians made it up. I think it’s just so we had to have the word South in Yorkshire. They know we don’t like south anything.

I'm still on Missionary duty down here at the Pointy Bit.

My undertaking is serious and difficult.

I'm trying to get the locals down here to spend more than me.

As I said, Its difficult. I've seen grown men crying on a Saturday as people leave Cornwall on the Tamar BRidge at the end of the holiday when they know the holiday maker still has a £1 in their pockets.

You can't wash the Tyke out of you.
Mind, I'll bet your Mum tried when she washed the 'Tide Mark' off your neck

The part of Yorkshire I was brought up in has been called various things like Tameside, Greater Manchester ect but the border never moved. It was North West Riding before my time.
Going to school over the border didn’t mean a lot to me until the buses stopped running during the snow. There were too meany hills and they didn’t want a bus stuck in a snow drift.
During one name change some one suggested a local vicar was now a Mancunian now he was in Greater Manchester. That didn’t go down well.
I left Yorkshire to serve in Germany for nine years. Got a job in Lincolnshire and am still here. Going back is a day out but I don’t feel loyal to my routes enough to move back.

You and i both. i have to repeat a simple sentence numerous times and they still don't understand. I was watching France 24 last night, in English of course, and there was a feature on French regional accents. They played clips which all sounded much the same to me, but it did coincidentally make me wonder what a deep Yorkshire accent added to limited French would sound like to them!

If Yorkshire was really any good, you wouldn't have to spend so much time posting about it on social media ?

Sheffield and the rest of South Yorkshire were historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the headquarters of which were based at Wakefield. It is only in the eyes of the post Office that South Yorkshire exists.
As for those who decry Sheffield it is the greenest city in the whole of Europe. Gone are the days of grey, smoke filled skies when there was a steel works on every street. It is no surprise that so many students come to Sheffield to study and then decide to stay after completing their courses.

So it's not that good in Yorkshire, it's just about avarice & tightwads! ?
Tightwads we may be, but careful with money may sound better. Avarice never, what do we have to be greedy about, we have beautiful countryside, friendly people and the sun shines all year round, occasionally hidden by the odd cloud.

I am being sent lots of jokes and poems by friends. I really appreciated this one:—

Yesterday God was seen walking round Yorkshire. What are you doing he was asked. “Working from home” was his reply.
No it should be my second home, the one in Lancashire is too good to use:LOL:

I love going off in our van and visiting places all over this the U.K. and Europe. But when I get home I walk the dog to the top of the hill and look down on the Calder Valley and the Luddenden Valley and think I am so lucky.
I can’t imagine living anywhere else but in Yorkshire.

How can there be a south, there is North, West and East .... According to the 12th century compilation known as the Leges Edwardi Confessoris, the riding was the third part of a county (provincia); to it causes were brought which could not be determined in the wapentake, and a matter which could not be determined in the riding was brought into the court of the shire

Yorkshire born and bred. When I moved to the Midlands and the locals asked me why I had come, I told them it was to cheer the miserable bugxxxs up. When I left , 20+ years later, they asked me why I was leaving, I told them it was because I had failed to cheer them up. They were/are still mb. Trying my luck with the southerns but not too optimistic
Loved the video clip of the Northerner in London. Just like some of my experiences in Warwickshire!

Ah well .... thez nowt na queerer than folks eh

You'd still be welcome in The Big Hearted County of Lancashire.

Born in York, mainly brought up in a West Riding Pit Village........ have lived/worked in Newcastle, Manchester, London, Doncaster, Bristol, Dundee and Shetland. Have found most folk to be friendly and helpful. Even married a Lancashire lass.

Worked/lived in Scotland for 17 years before returning to retire in God’s Own County. Found Scotsmen to be very similar to Yorkshiremen....... the only small difference being Yorkshiremen are not quite so generous. :giggle:

Sounds very much like South Wales where I live, except of course we also have some of the best beaches in the world & people are happy to spend money! ?
It isn't as wet as Wales...BUSBY.
