First service today £440-01p

The van is two years old [actually it was two years ago today that I collected it ] . Low mileage only covered 5,460 miles at the time of service. I realise I could have had a local garage carry out the service at far less cost but when you spend £60,000 on a van I'm happy to keep the three year warranty by having a main dealer service it . I also took the van back to IH for the annual habitation service and I know I could have had that carried out much cheaper but they are lovely genuine people to deal with .
If it was a main dealer they should have offered to do the small and cheaper service also keeping your 3 year warranty intact.

I've just been quoted £499 for a Peugeot Boxer major service and there is also a pipe rerouting recall... based on the quote, the service is going to be done by myself :)

MOT was quoted at £54.85 so they can do the recall and MOT.. I'll get my denims (coveralls) on and sort the other stuff

Presumably you are happy to invalidate any manufacturers warranty that usually insists on main dealer or a VAT registered garage carrying out the service using genuine Peugeot parts ? Oh just read you need a MOT too so obviously now out of warranty.

Correct, the Peugeot warranty is 2 years so i’ll return to the local agent for the recall and let them carry out the MOT.. the rest I can handle myself

I didn't realise there was a small service option and at no point was I asked the mileage when I booked the service and perhaps not surprisingly the garage never offered the cheaper one. You live and learn ,anyway OK now for another 2 years by which time the warranty will have run out .

Although I did read on here that water is heavier than brake fluid so sinks down to calipers ?
No - it's the opposite in fact. Brake fluid dissolves in water (or vice versa) and is designed that way precisely to prevent what you describe. A tester is an accurate way to find out whether it needs changing. Excessive water dissolved in brake fluid lowers the boiling point eventually leading to vapour pockets when the pads heat up.

As said, you don't have to have a main dealer service to keep warranty
You have been miss-led by them if they have told you this

AKA "brake fluid fade" and you really don't want that to happen... I attended the aftermath of a military crash in Cyprus in my RAF days. An inexperienced driver was descending from Mt Olympus in a 4 tonne truck loaded with troops and towing a trailer on the back... he left the road at the point where there was a large 30-50ft drop off with devastating consequences... We only went to help recover the truck and trailer thankfully....

True but Fiat do have a history of good will gestures outside of the warranty period if it’s been serviced by Fiat Professional, as reported by TM59 in post #52.

Hey! Don't rubbish my home town. We may be poor working class but proud and have a Tory MP.
Yeah, how does that actually happen...

Was at Rockingham Speedway a while back, doing commentary.. had to drop in the ' I remember this when it was all steel works'..

And I massive steel works it was too. Biggest steel producer in Europe at it's height and provided the tube's for fuel supply to the Mulbery harbours on the D Day Landings.

As for it now having a Tory MP. Sadly a reflection on the state of the Labour party and it's brilliant executive top table.

how the hell does a thead about servicing a vehicle turn into a bloody political thread..
Bugger off :D

Trev45, like you we have an IH that is just over 2 years old. Like you we want to keep the warranty intact by using Fiat Pro dealer and minimise any risk in case of claim.
We had our serviced at 1 year old, minor service cost £200ish and full service at year 2 for roughly same price as you.
Like you we also pay up for IH yearly Hab service, worth money we believe to keep van in great condition.
You will find various views on value for money here (!) , as long as your happy, then that’s great! In my experience your about right on cost.
Best wishes with your fab IH!
Bill

The IH is my first van and at my age will probably be my last . It is the most expensive item I have ever purchased cost way more than my house but that was purchased in the 70's. I know they are expensive but the quality is unbeatable in my opinion and it is 'Hand Crafted in Great Britain' so ticks the patriotic box putting money into UK workers pockets . Cue 'Rule Britannia ' . Reading some threads on this forum I thank my lucky stars I chose IH who are a pleasure to deal with as I'm sure you already know.

Trev45 and dicksob
I will be rally marshal for IH Owners at Malvern show next year. Martin the IH fitter always attends and does any odd fixing jobs needing doing free of charge. A very useful service. Do contact me if you want any info although I see you are a bit far away, we do have Scottish owners attending.

IH where i come from stands for International Harvester ?
Have you bought a tractor conversion.

Ps have you physically checked your van for new parts yet? ?

Venture out of Cheltenham area and you will find that IH stands for the finest Hand Crafted Panel Van Conversion built in Great Britain . I must admit I haven't physically checked my van for new parts have you some reason to recommend that I should ?

Well I like to know that what i paid for I actually got.

Trust to me is earned by actions not words on invoices.

Had a text message from a Fiat Professional garage in Crawley , Sussex, saying that my next service was due shortly,Nice one! efficient you may think?
They were the same garage that that said they could not fit the MH in their workshop as the ramps and headroom access was not big enough!:swear::doh:

I totally applaud your patriotic box ticking (y) (y) (y)

Apart from the labour , virtually everything in it of importance is from non-British companies

Try claiming on your Fiat warranty if it has not been serviced at a main dealer , they will fight it all the way

I had a similar e-mail from EMG at Kings Lynn offering 20% off Fiat servicing .They had my details as I had some recall work done there previously. When I tried to book I was told that they no longer serviced Ducato campervans as they won't fit in the workshop since they had new doors fitted .

But they will lose... if the chosen garage used Fiat OEM parts and is VAT registered...

Block Exemption is great :-)

As Wiljoy states Rochfords are very good , Micheal the owner is also a Motorhomer so values our line of thought when it comes to our vans.
I have used this garage for years.

My PVC is in the garage as we speak. Quoted nearly £500 for full service and MOT by Don Amott but couldn't fit me in until November 18th, that's ten weeks away. Can't wait that long and the vehicle only done 1000 miles since last October service/MOT but was a full service at the time. DA advised to only have another interim as low mileage at £189, which was perfectly acceptable but, can't wait 10 weeks, too long. PVC at local garage for the work, costing a bit more at £265 for service/MOT but at least its getting done and I like my books stamped every year, including the habitation which has already been done. Personally. I think nearly £500 quid for full service/MOT is excessive. Prices have gone up this year at DA by 33.3% service; 46% habitation; MOT the same at £55. What's that all about, can't just be inflation.
