Firesticks.

Our firestick has inexplicably died and we always found it temperamental and were rarely able to cast to it from phones etc so we just bought a Google chromecast. I have a Google pixlebook so hoping we'll be able to cast much more easily and hoping it generally works better than the firestick. Will fire it up tonight!

Is it the chromecast with google tv and the remote control? I've had the old chromecast for years which was just a device to plug in to hdmi slot and you could 'cast' content from another chrome device. No remote control with that.

As far as I know the new device is basically like a firestick with a few extras added in.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.

It was a bit of an impulse buy as we're in Portugal and happened to see it in a shop. Chromecast 3. No remote but your phone or tablet acts as a remote. We'll only be using netflix, iplayer etc and will be nice to be able to cast direct from our phone or computer to look at photos or videos which we struggled to do with the firestick. I'm hoping, but don't really know, that there will be nicer interface and more apps available without having to hack it like you did the firestick.

Edit done some googling it's just a basic one so streams from whatever app you are using on your phone. Should be fine for in the van and the added advantage that as we have 3 sim cards (2 phones one mifi) that we want to alternate using the data from it will be less faff than moving sims about into the mifi so the firestick will connect (we had trouble getting firestick to use our mobile phones as a hotspot)

When you are casting from a phone all evening does it muller the battery life is my only concern...

Which vpn and data provider/plan do you use please?

Been using a NETGEAR AIRCARD 790s with a Superdrug Unlimited Sim £20 monthly, up to 15 Devices,only pay for Dec,Jan and Feb then keep it for the following winter, then sign on for another 3 months, for the last 3yrs in France, Spain and Portugal (where we are now) with a Firestick, no VPN's required, as No Restrictions with Superdrug, just log on to ITV Hub and BBC iplayer, on 1st switch on, get all BBC, ITV, C4, C5 Channels + Netflix and all free TV Apps such as GBNews ect...we also have Amazon Prime @ £7.99 a Month for the films ect...
