Finally given in and now SORN

you would think so Jock but those who have been in it since before christmas didn't think it was?
They might have done Richard if they each got a fine, as happened to the occupants of cars visiting a Retail Park in Lanarkshire, outside their Tier, which were picked up on ANPR cameras. £120 per occupant in the vehicle.
Bring it on big style I say. ;)

Anyway, back on topic. For anyone not sure how to go about the SORN process.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Result!!! Not sure about the lemonade
She has a very sweet tooth, managed to get her to drink a light Rose a few years ago other than that for her 40th I bought her a magnum of

Babysham:rolleyes: she loved it

On Facebook, someone said they had taxed Thier van for a year from last January and had only used her van for a couple of weeks with only a 100 or so miles put on the clock.she hadn't sorned her van but was writing to the DVLA to ask for a refund due to not using her van. Wonder what the odds are of getting one?

I have SORNED mine. One of these day I will get to use it☹️☹️

I would SORN the car but I don’t pay RFT as it is Electric 😂😂😂

I am amazed there is no admin charge at all for SORNing a vehicle

there must be a fair bit of admin resource behind it, not least sending out cheques which is annoying when you pay by DD, or have they changed that now

I still haven’t done ours, we have benefitted from government hand outs and this our little way of saying thanks

No hand outs here, van sorned from October ,we pay DD monthly so just SORN and cancel DD,no cheques,no fuss, all done on line. Van is under 3.5 t so at higher rate tax than a van over 3.5,so already paid my fair share. (y)

I do see us as lucky ones, at least we have employment. Not using the Motorhome is a small price to pay, 75,000 people and counting will never have that opportunity. 😢

Never previously SORNed. Thought this time going overseas for at least 2 month's, probably 3, the vehicles are not going to be used so why not. 4 vehicles SORNed one not our as son may need to use it. Heaven knows how much i may get back, 2 of the vehicles are high tax class so it should be enough for a booze up and nosh when we get back
Sorn date 27th Dec, due back 2nd March............if we extend 2/3rd April. Hopefully things maybe clearer by then.

In Tier4 so SORN'd - dead easy on the DVLA website and as easy to re-tax and drive immediately if needed to.

I would say zero chance - it's not mileage related and DVLA will just say if you're not using it don't tax it. Personally I think it should be mileage related to discourage use for environmental reasons but currently it isn't.

I think it is all computerised so no additional costs. I agree it is very 'un-government' like to have no charge. That's a nice gesture - not SORNing as you've had help.

Time to SORN I think, can’t see us being allowed out till at least March then there will be the easter rush, so think it’s time to bite the bullet ☹️ took her for the last drive today.
Does concern me though not being used for a few weeks or months is it worth the £25 per month to sit on the drive and rot.

It's done TAXED van this afternoon. :clap2:ready for the off tomorrow. And I am not even moaning about it being back dated to the 01.03.21 . They are not taking the money until April 13 so I have 2 weeks of April to change my mind
It will be parked back on the drive by then I wonder

Never SORNED it and just coughed up £165 to renew the tax, hopefully get a bit more use this year.
I think insurance is due early May I think I leave the mileage at 6000 can't see us doing much more than that this year.

Mot will be the next time we tax the van, not rushing out to be in the first wave

We did 800 miles in ours last year so reduced it down to lower the insurance for this year.we did have 5 k miles cover so took a 1 k drop ,hopefully we will be out and about at the end of April (y)

Sorn is a mugs game I’ve never don’t it or intend to do it unless the vans 100% non road worthy.

Plus I can use her tomorrow cos us lucky Welsh lot are allowed out lol.

You don’t have to take it off sorn to get your MOT done as long as it’s pre booked and you only drive there and back.
That's what I did a couple of weeks ago. MOT had expired in January but I thought I would get it tested before the April rush 😀

Mine's on SORN so I'll tax the mh early April. I'll tax the mbikes also but only for 6 months as I don't ride in the cold anymore☺

Our insurance is due at the end of April, reduced it from 10,000 miles to 5,000 miles last year, should've reduced it to the minimum 1,500 and saved the extra £49! Ah well, never mind ... hopefully it won't have gone up much this year.

We still managed 4000 last year, it we can get off mid September to Spain/Portugal, one trip will be 3000 to 3500 miles.

Why not tax them monthly? It costs, I think, 10% more but much more flexible in these uncertain times.
It's not as bad as 10%, it's 5% which isn't much to pay for the ability to adjust it as necessary for the months when you need it.

If we hadn't had to look after Romy we might have had a holiday but we couldn't go away due to her needs, don't regret it, but when we did the insurance we didn't think about that. I'll have to try pleading poverty with the insurer! :giggle:

Historically i had never thought it worthwhile SORNing so didn't.
This trip i thought what the hell. I SORNed 4 of our vehicles on Christmas Eve. Thought we would be back from our trip March 2nd. Extended and extended again, even now don't know when we will get home. Should be some cheques waiting for us when we get back, how much, no idea,

Thing is over the years we have gone away for the winter for up to 4/5/6 months and never SORNed, how much have we left in the DVLA coffers that could have been in the pubs tills.
🐴

Like many mine is sorned at present (since the November lockdown)
Planning to tax it after April 12th.
