Ferries and fuel

I've just booked Portsmouth to Santander going early March coming back end of May.
Single passenger, reclining seat , using a code from another member £1008. Going to France in September to follow rugby world cup so will probably look at Newhaven to Dieppe as I'm over 60.

That would be my last resort, much prefer a cabin.

Reading another thread - it seems like a lot of popular destinations are rammed at the moment, sites, aires and parking...

This recent report suggests "camping" occupation is up 34% on pre-covid 2019 levels

OT Reading the latest news, seems the weather is pretty manky at the moment.
Looking okay today on camera, wind has died off

As a solo traveler I could share a 4 berth cabin, I don't travel well by sea and don't want to be confined with other people being sick 😁

Not your destination but My Hull to Rotterdam ferry isn't too bad at £290 single with outside cabin this July.
Agree with the Hull to Rotterdam, a reasonable price at £645 return leaving last week in May and returning 3rd week in June, 2 adults ,cabin , breakfasts , 6.0m PVC , was the next nearest to us travelling down from Scotland after Newcastle being too expensive and not wanting to go all the way down South to tunnel or ferry.

September is usually the same have paid £220 for D Day week, then I've had one return for £79 about 4 years ago.
I priced that route this year for early July. Can't remember exactly but sure it was about £300 return.
Thing is, we don't travel as far as we used to so aim for warmer months. This year probably go to an all time favourite, Lake Constance. Or if we turn left off the ferry, Dresden/Prague.

We are going Hull to Rotterdam, coming from Scotland usually go Newcastle to Ijmuiden but cost has gone up significantly on that route , next nearest for us was Hull 😲
Last year Newcastle ferry was lower price than Hull. This year I've been unable to find any sailings at all on Newcastle ferry (through CAMC website).

You can go last week in May return 2nd week in June if you want to pay more than double what you would have the year before 😲

The expensive bit is the cabin only paid £20 for 2 berth cabin.
We always pay for a cabin rather than share toilets. As if the crossing is rough even though we don’t get seasick I really don’t want to paddle through sick if I need a wee.

I take a kettle plus coffee etc so that compensates for some of the costs. Sometimes take a picnic as well.

Even without the cabin ( which is not an option , no way trying to sleep in a chair surrounded with pi$$ed up teenagers and sharing the public toilets, still need to drive once we get off) it still comes in at around £530 ….. plus the price of the recliner chair 😲, which takes it close to what we paid on the Hull to Rotterdam crossing with a cabin 😉

Just planning some trips and the cost of ferries is ridiculous this year. May have to pack the motorhoming lark in being a poor pensioner. Portsmouth Caen with a pet friendly cabin best part of £300 one way.
IoM for TT over £500
Could well be a Vantage Neo for sale soon
I have just booked Portsmouth Caen outside 4 berth cabin both ways 8 m motorhome 2 adults and the dog £465 return. So not that bad. Could go cheaper but spend more on fuel with extra miles.

Hi all. We have just booked Dover Calais for May return in June. £230 inc extra for MH length. I think this is good. It is flexi so we can change without cost if we need to.
It is sometimes cheaper to drive to a shorter crossing point, subject to where you are looking to go on the other side.
We are about an hour from Dover and tend to head into Belgium and Germany.

Last time Ports/Caen £395 two +6M, afternoon sailings, 2018. Dover Calais the following year £143 afternoon sailings. Last year D/C £250. Although it's fifteen minutes to the Portsmouth ferry, it's an expensive convenience.

Some interesting prices here. Just to add more information here are the crossings that I have booked.

P&O Hull- Rotterdam May 20 returning Jun 19.
Motorhome, 2 people, inside cabins, 2x Dinner & Breakfast each way £583.17 with 15% early booking discount.

DFDS Newcastle to Amsterdam 3rd Sept returning 25th September.
Same details as above £612 with 20% early booking discount.

Just booked October Plymouth Santander one way 7.6m mh plus bike rack, I can make do with a recliner being a one night crossing, £300 with club voyage discount I was quite happy with that.

Are you a member with Brittany? Depends how many times you’re travelling. If not I can give you my code which will get you 10% off unless they’ve changed the rules.? Afternoon crossings tend to be cheaper and Tuesday was always the cheapest.

Is the IOM ferry less expensive sailing the week before, then park up for a week and come back a few days after the finish of the TT
It certainly is. TT prices are high and they sell them all months before. Its market rate I guess.

It's cheap if you are going off when everyone is coming here and cheap when coming back when everyone is leaving. (y)
