Just planning some trips and the cost of ferries is ridiculous this year. May have to pack the motorhoming lark in being a poor pensioner. Portsmouth Caen with a pet friendly cabin best part of £300 one way.
IoM for TT over £500
Could well be a Vantage Neo for sale soon

Newhaven to Dieppe is our favourite, just priced March 30th to May 30th £225 return, 11.00AM sailings each way, without cabin as we find the lounge seats fine for journey. Thats without the 20% over 60's discount which might involve a phone call as there was not an option shown on their website booking form, or go in via The Discount Offers page which a link to can be found if you type in DFDS over 60 discount and click on link.
£500 return ferry to IOM is extortionate in my view, so will watch TT on tele as usual, but I know you have a more of an involvement than many of us, so hope you find a cheaper way of getting over there.(y)
Good luck.

We have used the Newhaven - Dieppe crossing for more than 30 years. You have to leave the dog in the m/h and can only visit it briefly by special arrangement and accompanied by a crew member. You're not allowed to take the dog out of the vehicle.
20% discount on the cost for all passengers if the person named on the booking is over 60. You have to book by phone.

See this thread (with 76 replies!) from a couple of weeks ago which covers all details.......

Yes, Newhaven to Dieppe here as well. Have 3 crossings booked so far this year and all were way below the Chunnel prices and better than ferries out of Dover.

BTW csd4t is your avatar pic from the approach to the Creg?

Yep dropping down into Creg 2007 TT my last race, just do a bit of spannering now.
I've used Newhaven Dieppe many times but Cherbourg, Caen or St Malo are better for me at the French side and much prefer Portsmouth to Dover at this end.

Not your destination but My Hull to Rotterdam ferry isn't too bad at £290 single with outside cabin this July.

We've paid BF over £2100 this year for 3 trips. Portsmouth santander return , plus 2 x Portsmouth StMalo. It has escalated way over sustainability. 2024 will have to be different.

Copied and pasted from the DFDS website FAQ

Are there discounts for seniors on the ferry route Newhaven to Dieppe?
A reduction of 20% is available on the ferry route Newhaven-Dieppe for seniors over the age of 60 years. Passengers will need to be the lead passenger and present proof of age at the port. The discount applies to the crossing only and does not include cabins or pets. All bookings must be made by telephone on 0330 587 8787 or at the ferry terminal
..

  • Nice One!

They never ask for proof of age, and when booking they normally ask you if you are over 60.

Once you’re at the ferry they have your passport so I assumed that was why they don’t ask as they’ve got your dob there. We like the crossing if we can’t get Poole to Cherbourg.

Not wishing to b harsh but like anything in life if you find you can’t afford it it maybe time to cut your cloth accordingly, motorhoming has never been a cheap hobby in my experience.

That is a rather hash response.

Only used to be the initial purchase was the big outlay (and motorhomes seem to hold there value reasonably well) actually using them was affordable until recently, it seems that everybody now wants a bigger slice of the pie. I currently only have private pensions and savings. Maybe after May when I get my state pension things will be different.

The cost of travel has rocketed over the last twenty years or so. But so have hotel costs.

Often you may be better off looking at alternative options.

Talking to a funster on the phone today, campsites in Spain can be as low as €11a night. Then of course you have free camping and aires.

It’s the ferry and toll costs that add up. Something most continentals don’t have to worry about. That and passports, animal passports etc.

We are very lucky as we have a house in javea, Spain and can still fly cheaply from Manchester for as little as £9.

But we also let it out for winter at low prices if it is of any interest to you ?.

Won’t need to bother getting a price for Cairnryan to Belfast this year , North West 200 cancelled!!! In fact all motor sports in NI on open roads / short circuits cancelled due to rocketing Public Liability Insurance ☹️

Try Newhaven-Dieppe, we always ❤️ use this
route and find the cost more reasonable and seniors get a 20% discount, but to get that you have to book by phone. ☎️

We are going Hull to Rotterdam, coming from Scotland usually go Newcastle to Ijmuiden but cost has gone up significantly on that route , next nearest for us was Hull 😲

Always book our ferries or tunnel with Tesco vouchers. The only thing you can't pay for is the pet surcharge at £22 for the tunnel but £44 for a round trip is a great deal. Don't ask me how much we spend in Tesco during the year to get the vouchers but it always feels like free money. Look it up.

Reading another thread - it seems like a lot of popular destinations are rammed at the moment, sites, aires and parking...

This recent report suggests "camping" occupation is up 34% on pre-covid 2019 levels

OT Reading the latest news, seems the weather is pretty manky at the moment.
