Fed up

Ahh, but think of the fuel you have saved Bob not driving up and down the country :)

Soon be time to start thinking about right to refuse it ? depending on the problem

I would buy a Hydrogen powered one
You have to wonder how a BEV motorhome would work - If I have a cold dinner tonight it might give me the extra mile to get to the charging station in the morning?

I'm sorry you re having hassle but I don't understand why people buy new ones, there's far too much to go wrong with them, buy an older one, you get more for your money and if it does go wrong you stand half a chance of fixing it.
We are very happy with buying a new motorhome. I like the shiny newness and the fact that no one else has used anything. I believe the solution you seek is more to do with paying for quality.

I'm not seeking anything, I voiced an opinion. But yes part of that is that I believe the quality of both the base vehicle and the conversions has mostly deteriorated because the chassis manufacturer has been forced to add increasing amounts of complicated electronics to comply with fanciful notions of emission controls and the converters have been pressured by the market to make their product flimsier to cope with licencing laws that are long overdue for a revision. Don't get me wrong there are still some very nice new motorhomes out there but will they last as long?

Just trying to help you understand. 🤔

I know your pain-

5 miles I find it's got a speed limiter

10miles I fill up and it's got a 4.1t plate oops I can't drive the thing...

100 miles dpf blocks.

So nearer £1k later it's fixed and running well .

Cheers James
Where did you get the DPF cleaned?

We bought new both times, however we now have racked up 36 hours over four different days sat at northern commercials in brighouse, it’s got an issue with the hardware not recognising the software so it throws up warning lights like Blackpool illuminations.
Still drivable but very annoying. It’s booked back in for the beginning of sept for our 5th visit.
Who would have a motorhome ?
We would still loving it 😄😄😄.

The full story will out when it's sorted
BUT
Still waiting for our brand new MH collected last Saturday and broke down after doing the massive mileage of 15 miles.
No idea when we will get it back
To say it's frustrating is.............well frustrating.
Wow thats terrible, hope you get it sorted very quickly Bob, what happen to it

Presume the breakdown is relevant to the base vehicle rather than the converter?

In which case the converter is irrelevant, or am I wrong?

Either way, I feel for you, very frustrating.
Yes quite right, the base vehicle.
Got a call last evening. First correspondence in a week. Not good news. As previously mention i do not want to go into too much detail at present with the situation on going.

Yep, a very good summary there Jon.

I've noticed a huge reduction in new van quality and that's just over the handful of years that we have been motorhoming.

We've bought new vans originating from the UK, France and Germany and all of them have taken a hit in terms of quality.

I would be very sceptical these days about buying anything new, especially any new motorhome built during the Covid period as it almost certainly will come with quality deficiencies of some kind

An Adria then? Our Adria was crap. Autotrail is fine. Very predictably all the Auto trail haters never miss an opportunity on a thread like this.
Each to their own, my Adria Sonic is faultless, everything works superbly from the sublime 3.0L engine with comfortmatic to the Truma, Not had one issue with it.
Oh and it was second hand! Wouldn’t buy a new one, in fact if I get rid of the Sonic, it will be for an OLDER RWD moho (I’d love an old Concorde or Flair) or a Frankia😉

As you said, each to their own and there is good and bad in all makes I expect. Glad You are pleased with yours. Our main problem was the drop down electric bed. I will never have one of those ever again!

You don't stop in hotels then?

New mattress is a lot cheaper than a new motorhome

Yes, aware of that and to be honest have always felt a little uncomfortable with it. I just rely on the fact that hotels beds are cleaned regularly.

Ahhhhhh I see👍 We’ve seldom used ours, so I do take your point, if it fails that could be a problem and I don’t think it’s got a manual override😳 That said when we’ve used it it worked with no problems👍
Forgot to add, it’s a 2013 so not so new👍

Wouldn't mind a bet on a blocked fuel filter due to swarf from drilling and fitting the pipework. Sorry to hear of your problems but after a week in Cornwall with dreadful weather, huge crowds and very heavy traffic everywhere you're not missing a lot.
We have had to cancel 3 times at Laneside in Hope, Derbyshire Peak District. Wouldn't dream of going to Devon or Cornwall this time of year. The locals don't like us

Couldn't agree with you more. We've had our new Challenger for about a month now, and while it's lovely and comfortable and serves our purposes brilliantly, I can't see it lasting 20 years like our previous Burstner. Hopefully time will prove me wrong, but somehow I doubt it!

Because there’s nothing like the feeling of picking up a brand new van.
And the toilet’s never been christened😂😂

Our 14 year old autotrail is going fine thanks. No problems really to speak of. And our friends with a brand new benimar are having a great time trying to get the sticker decoration on the outside replaced because they run black stuff down the sides of the van. They also didn't get as much refinement for the money 🤷‍♂️

Had several second hand motorhomes over about 25 years with minimal trouble so decided to splash out on a quality brand new one as our keeper. Over two troubled years over half the miles covered were to and from the dealer to get things fixed, some trivial but many not. I took to taking my own reading material as I’d read all their magazines but listening to their end of phone calls from disgruntled customers was an amusing, if rather depressing, diversion. The dealer was so overwhelmed with warranty work that they wouldn’t look at anything that had arisen after booking it in (quite a lot!) so yet more trips. We sold it back to them for £50k and bought an old but faultless five grand caravan as we no longer need to tow a trailer.
I understand buying new houses is much the same.

I think your taking the issue very well. I assume your supplying dealer is close to home and will not be too much hassle for you.

At least you managed to actually get yours, we’re 10 weeks overdue on delivery and still no handover date in sight, at least the ‘summer’ has been sh** so don’t feel we’ve missed out even though we’ve had to cancel every booking we had made, roll on 2022

Any updates on the van Bob?
