Eurotunnel not extending time on yearly tickets

That’s great news, did that arrive unsolicited or had you contacted them?
I has said it was unfair to give some people 3 months and others 12 months, but it looks as if they will be doing it for everyone,

Be interesting to see what you wrote so we can draw up a draft as they seem to be offering different outcome# to people!

This is what we said

We are somewhat disappointed with your offers as this situation has arisen through no fault of our own. We purchased the Frequent Traveller Wallet in good faith with every intention of using all the journeys before the expiry date thereby fulfilling our side of the contract. We feel that realistically we are unlikely to travel to France this summer as travel in Europe is likely to remain very restricted or impossible for some considerable time to come. We would not want to travel in the last few months of the year or over the winter as the weather will obviously not hold the same attraction and what would happen if we were still restricted at that point.

We are aware that Brittany Ferries has offered its clients an extension of 24 months to their bookings in order for them to be used next spring and summer and the following year and feel that this would be a reasonable solution for us or alternatively for a year from the date travel is allowed or a shorter period but at least the length of the remaining time on our frequent traveller account over a summer.

It also seems most unreasonable to ask for a further purchase to be allowed to use our outstanding credit

Eurotunnel did the same for us. Initial refusal to do more than 3 months, I wrote saying that other FT clients were being offered a better deal and that I was sure Eurotunnel did not intend to be discriminatory in their responses. 12 month extension then offered. Sounds as if they might have realised they have to offer it to all.

I shall just await the good news from Eurotunnel thanks to all you trailblazers with baited breath:unsure:

The next one would have been the threat of investigating chargeback from the credit card company. Of course the risk is they withdraw the previous offer!
I did. I phoned the credit card provider and the initial response was that as the trains through the Tunnel were still running it could be difficult. I did point out that the trains might be running but we couldn't get on them I was told to submit a written request. However I haven't needed to.

Just had a response from Eurotunnel, our end date has been amended to August 2021.

Same I complained again sept 21

Just to add to this thread...…… We originally booked on 20 Feb for outbound travel on 25 May. Half Tesco vouchers & half on card. Phoned up yesterday to cancel and asked about refund. Not possible as non ref ticket, but offered a voucher instead for future travel. Got an e-mail this morning stating the voucher is valid until 5.5.21, so has to be used by then BUT can travel up to a year after that, i.e. May 2022. So basically 2 years extension from today, not from when first booked. Well happy with that, RESULT!! (y):happy:

Sitting with an Tesco ticket for July (expensive) and would be happy if it could be used a year later.
Only concern there is that they only let you book 6 months in advance so your 5.5.21 may need to be used before 5.11.21.
I phoned a couple of weeks ago and they said leave any refund until 6 weeks before you travel.

In my initial email I mentioned that I understood that they were extending accounts by 12 months
Got a quick reply extending me by 12 months
I’ll contact them again although, to be fair, I cannot see us using 4 crossings before next May so might as well just take the credit they have offered which should probably cover one return crossing.

Thanks everyone for your continued badgering with ET and that they have seen sense after all the hard work. Just goes to show that MF works .

Thanks for this. Good to see there is an amicable solution as the internet is full of travel company issues.

I just received an email from Eurotunnel, copied and pasted below:

Dear Mrs Evenden,

We know that this is a very unsettling time for everyone. As the lockdown continues, and Government restrictions stay in place, we have listened to your requests, and made the decision to extend the validity of all of our Frequent Travellers’ tickets by 12 months.

Hopefully this will help you dream of ventures back across the channel in the future. We certainly look forward to welcoming you much sooner than 12 months away, but decided it was simplest just to ensure you have plenty of time to make plans.

There’s no need to contact us, you should just see it change in your account at some point in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your continued support,

When the CV first started hitting here I contacted Eurotunnel as we had a trip booked with them for June this year, it was Tesco vouchers and cash paid for.

No chance of changing it to next year they said, use it this year or lose it. OK, not the end of the World so let it go.

Based on the above postings I rang them again today. Same convo, no you must use them this year, but when I persisted saying I had heard of others using Tesco vouchers getting extensions to next year they suddenly said that as a gesture of goodwill they will send me a voucher to use next year.

Result !!!!

Yep, just got that too! Obviously not to Mrs Evenden though!:giggle:

Just had my Frequent Traveller ticket which was due to expire on 27/8/20 extended to 27/8/2021. They tried to extended by 9 months until I pointed out the email from customer relations which said by 12 months.
Don’t give up with any travelling problems as in the end there is a result.

We also got an email today giving us a 12 month extension on our FT package.
I hadn’t contacted them to ask for an extension so we think that’s very fair.
Well done EuroTunnel. (y) :giggle:

Richard.

Hello to you all,
I have never posted before so please for give me if its not appropriate.
Regards Euro tunnel. I had a FT account, but sadly my wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
I put the name of the illness, but changed it as I do not like to see it printed.
The condition deteriorated, and I was advised not to travel with her out of the country.
It was soon apparent that travel in the Motor home was not going to happen.
I explained all this to Euro tunnel, and it did not mean a thing.
I cannot remember without looking at my records how many trips I still had. It was 6 or 8 left, but they would not refund the remainder of the account, or extend it.
I would have been happy for them to Pause the account, and had the price gone up I would have paid the difference once it was reinstated.
They were not interested in anything other than making money no mater how they do it.
The only thing I can hope is they do something for all of you. If some legal remedy were found I would try to get some kind of recompense.
Good luck.
Just a thought.
We may be locked down etc, But give a thought to all those people we remembered yesterday 8th. My dear father in law God bless him was a prisoner of war for 4 years, taken in the dessert. He, and all the other POW's would find our moaning quite hard to understand.

Maybe you should write again, good luck (y)

Have been in touch with eurotunnel to extend the date on my yearly ticket as it cannot be used due to France not wanting you to go and drive through. Reply from eurotunnel is that they are open for business and you can use the service! Mixed messages I feel

Surely, they expect you to claim on your travel insurance ?
What does the contract say ?
