Eurotunnel new booking system

Today I decided to check prices for our 4.25T motorhome in Feb 2020. Entered the reg and it came back as a Peugeot van. That aside because it is over 3.5T the Eurotunnel site redirects me to their freight site where there is no option to browse prices etc. I've emailed them to check this is intended. Now awaiting reply.

I have just done that too. 3.85t so have to book freight. I am thinking of taking my car trailer and that will be 'free' if I tick the 13 mtr box. Van - 7.7m, trailer 4.2 mtr

Ours is 7.5 tonne and we book in the usual way - never been directed to their freight site. They now ask for the size but that's more to do with ensuring the best use of the space available.

You have to select campervan after inputting the base vehicle and you then carry on and book as usual.

I booked mine a few days ago, frequent traveller, and booked as normal just had to put length in, tried with towing car and that needed trailer length and would have been an extra £46.
So I think still the same just so they can load train better, knowing what length vehicle they are booking.
I did notice the warning about commercial vehicle and the weight but I don’t think that applies to motorhome , well I will find out on the 6th January!

I am going to risk my neck here!

Surely the price to take a vehicle of any description onto a ferry must be gauged by the vehicles size and weight If there is any other sensible and fair system, I really can not think of it

Therefore anyone with a large vehicle can regret the new booking system, but they should not grumble too much about it?
Pricing has remained the same.. All motorhomes, regardless of length are the same price

A few quid cheaper for us if we book freight.

I shall experiment but the site does definitely state if you vehicle is carrying commercial goods OR (perhaps they meant "and") over 3.5T you have to contact their freight division. I shall try the above suggestions anyway. Thanks for peeps comments.

Apparently it is for vehicles with over 3.5T AGW. Quick search on the internet and AGW is effectively payload. Sure that wasn't there half an hour ago!

When I enter our motorhome details it won't accept the make and model of the motorhome itself so I input the make and the model - in our case Iveco Daily. You then go down to where it asks 'Is your vehicle a campervan?' - that's where you click 'yes' and then input the size, etc.

We have travelled since the new booking format came into use with no problem.

We booked our over 3.5 tonne motorhome on the tunnel a couple of days ago and as it’s classed as a camper van, we didn’t pay any more. No motorhomes go in the freight section.
As to length, we declare it on the booking form (7.5m) but when you stop at the little kiosk before you join the loading lanes, there are a series of lines on the road that show your length. These have always been there.

It doesn’t recognise my MH as a MH but a van ether SO this is the way to do it as instructed by eurotunnel

You do NOT need to book ANY motorhome or campervan as freight. Where it asks for type of vehicle click on Campervan - you only then put in size, reg and maker.
Unless it's changed in the last couple of weeks!

the problem is some genuine MH’s reg number don’t show up as MH’S but Just as a van
then you follow As per instructions as above , as I have to do every time I use the tunnel

Just search for " vehicle types" on the Eurotunnel site and it's explained. You don't need to book as freight. I've just put my reg in, correctly identified as Peugeot Boxer, next page asks whether it's a campervan. If campervan, you have to tick a box for length. If you're not a campervan the length isn't asked for.

The caravan club know asks for dimensions when you book with them

I was half way down the que waiting to board at the euro-tunnel Calais on Saturday morning, in front was a coach and several vans and camper vans.

I was then called from behind all the smaller vehicles and loaded on behind the coach at the head of the train, this has never happened to me before so I suspect it is more about managing the space more efficiently rather than cost of tkts.
this happened to me last time, pulled put of the queue, 2 smaller cars let in, then me, so i was now at the front of the next carriage, next to the separation door. What surprised me there was no apparent calculation or consultation done, it seemed it was just on the fly. How did he know where I'd end up?

Unless they've changed their safety rules again, you would not be allowed to travel freight with a MH. A few years ago when I had a semi retirement job delivering aircraft spares to Europe, I was asked to take a small parcel to La Rochelle just as we had planned to go away. We decided to take the camper, and booked freight as usual as you travel on the next available. When we arrived, the MH was queried and we were told by the duty officer that MHs had 'to high a calorific content ( construction method) for the open freight carriages. We were put onto the next available passenger train

We’ve just booked for January on our frequent travel account and it’s marked as a legacy account. There will be a price increase for a motorhome.

If you have (or open) a Eurotunnel account, you can save your vehicle details. Mine didn’t identify as a motorhome and so I phoned them... they over-rode the system and saved it as a motorhome on my account.
When that’s done, every time you book a ticket, you can choose your saved vehicle from the account and it saves having to correct it every time you book.

When we went last in August a full size coach followed us on

I have an account and exactly the same issue with my moho showing as a small red van from Hartlepool or somewhere. However, when i phoned the Tunnel, the said that they couldn't change it and that I should contact the DVLA. They promised to get back to me in five days and six months later I am waiting for them to fulfill that promise.

Now, I am going to try the Tunnel guys again based on what you have said. Thanks due!

Done and it was very painless! Our Rimor now exists, although it had to be registered as being neither UK nor French.

Agreed. I have just asked "Freddie" the E assistant on the booking page and had the following:-

I have a Fiat based motorhome which is over 3.5T. Do I book as a campervan or Freight please.

Hello Freddie here
You would book this as a campervan on the passenger service Michael

I have been reading with interest the posts regarding the new booking system on Euro tunnel and wondered if I’m reading it correctly or am I just tired. It seems to be saying that my reg is identified as a fiat ducato van and then asked if I am over 3.5 AGW you should contact the freight. Other posts seem to say that you just click motorhome and you don’ t need to do that. I saw someone had a response from Euro tunnel but says book without registration so if you book with type agian when you add fiat Ducato it comes up with the same message. I have attached the screen shot.

Can anyone shed any light on this as it seems rather odd. I completely understand the arguments for length but it seems a shame due to an automatic gear box I’m considered freight. My brothers a lorry driver and he’s told me horror stories so hope I don’t have to travel with the lorries - at least I have my own loo!!!!!
