EU Pet passport.. latest information??

Yep, great and thanks everybody. Let's try to stick to the FACTS, anything else just confuses/clouds the issue which is why I came on here to try and clarify matters.

Getting the actual legislation details will be most interesting - personally I don't think it exists and EU vets have only been "strongly advised" (I won't say threatened but you know what I mean!)

Hi All!

Madame GUILAIN Francoise,

You're welcome:Smile::Smile::Smile:

Google should be able to translate this. I had no time to do it, being right now in a doctor's wait room

hi,
has anyone got a Petpassport in France in the last few months eg at Arras, Laon etc. or have these vets also stopped doing them. last reference to them issuing one to a non-resident was in Oct 2021 I think. Would appreciate it if someone could update me, preferably from personal experience.
Thanks
tk

A small detour but if your heading north from Laon you could use this vet at Mons, used by two funsters recently,€30 cash 👍

That would be great. Thank you. (y)
maz sorry for delay, only got in there today. I asked the vet could a non resident of Spain, and in particular a resident of the UK get a pet passport issued by him. He said no, and then went on to explain that they had received updated instructions stating that the EU pet passport scheme was no longer applicable to residents of the UK. He did explain that if someone had a holiday home here then they could get a passport, and also residents of Spain if a British National could also get the passport. He showed me a document that he had been sent earlier this year outlining new procedures, but he wouldn’t let me take a picture of it 🥲

what was most fascinating was he went onto say that he knew of a vet in the area that was ignoring this and would continue to issue the passports lol, but that he would not do this.

Thanks for that - very interesting. I would love to see the document he refers to. Did you get to see which authority it was issued by?

I suspect that this ‘residency‘ requirement stems from that badly-worded paragraph on the European Commission website. You know, the one that only makes sense if it means UK-issued Pet Passports:

That was the bit I wanted to take a picture of, all I could see was “El Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación” which is interesting as when I go to their website (https://www.mapa.gob.es/en/ganaderi...desplazamiento-animales-compania/default.aspx) all I can read is this

IMPORTANT - BREXIT INFORMATION: As of January 1, 2021, all pets from Great Britain and its dependencies (excluding Northern Ireland and Gibraltar) must be entered through an airport or port authorized as a Travellers Point of Entry. Dogs, cats and ferrets should:

  • Be identified.
  • Have a valid anti-rabies vaccine.
  • Be accompanied by a Health Certificate or a EU pet passport (GB pet passports are not valid anymore)
  • It is not necessary to perform an antibody titration test against rabies.

When returning to Great Britain it will be necessary:

  • To carry out a treatment against parasites between 1-5 days before travelling.
  • To present ONE of the following documents: Health Certificate used for entering into the EU, EU pet passport or GB pet passport.
  • It is not necessary to perform an antibody titration test against rabies.

On way out through eurotunnel we were told not to forget our Rabies was near to running out and to not get it redone in UK. Which gave us faith that customs are ok with us having EU pp. First French vet we visited just agreed new rabies vaccine, and record in EU pp no problem. So thats us easy for three years. Very happy to have it done.

What is written on the MAPA website makes sense - so where does this ‘residency’ nonsense come from? As we know, there is no requirement in actual EU law for residency in order to issue a Pet Passport. The only actual law that governs the movement of pets into the EU is good old Regulation 576/2013.

Just to say we got our 3 dogs EU passports without a problem last week in Portugal at Peso de Regua, €74.50 for all of them using our existing rabies jabs info so no need for new ones.

Much to our surprise, our new Spanish pet passports were checked against the microchips on leaving Bilbao. No problems, but this is the first time we have experienced such checks on the 'other' side.

dunno, but like I say he did have a document to hand - confused.com 🥴🥴

On checking in at BF terminal last October the girl told us to get EU pet passports which we did from our vet in Spain. Going out again next week so hoping they’re ok. Having read BF requirements the date the chip was checked or implanted should be on or before the date of rabies vaccination. Our dogs also have their chips registered with a Spanish site. Our vet did give our dogs another rabies vaccination even though their uk one was still in date.

I would like to know what has changed from the uk being in the EU and coming out,in regards to rabies?it's just a money making exercise and everyone should have their pet passports before leaving for the EU and a 2/3 days before you return get your dog wormed.so I don't really understand why people need to get their passports in the EU.

You and me both know why we no longer qualify for the rules set by the EU, nothing has physically changed but we are now in a different burocracy group.

Do you need an ahc to go to Ireland for a pet passport
Technically yes, as Ireland is in the EU and subject to their rules, but there is no border (yet) between NI and the Republic so perhaps choosing your route might be advantageous!

We didn't get one when we went last time, nobody asked either in or out.

I have just crossed into Northern Ireland fro. Scotland. There are no checks in place. There are no checks into Ireland either from the North. I will be getting pet passports during this trip fir when we go to France in June.

We got passports and a rabies shot for our two girls in March in Los Alcázares, no residence, just campsite address and they will do their worming before our return in a couple of weeks and then onto eurotunnel! Watch this space. 😊🙏🏻

leaving europe & entering the Uk is the only time the passport should be checked? It has always been checked & chip scanned when i arrive at dunkirk port. Exiting the UK there was never any checks of any kind whatsoever before. No idea what will happen now ?

Yes it is a money making exercise. UK pps are no longer valid for eu travel & you need to get an ahc at great cost each time you want to go abroad. An EU passprt for the dog,cat ,ferret removes the need for an ahc.

A little (well not so little) Irish friend has told us that Irish vets have recieved the same "dictat" as Europe. However for now it seems only those on the east coast are taking much notice of it.
We were hoping to do the same.

What ‘diktat’ is this, please, Terry? To do with residency or what? Any chance your Irish friend can show us a copy, please?

The "advice" apparently given to all EU vets but, again, nobody has ever actually been able to produce a written copy.
