It was in the Original Post..Is this a political thread ??
That is exactly the point I was making in my postI would have thought if a uk lic allows up to 4250 and the eu accept a uk lic as they do now the eu accepts you can drive up to 4250 in the eu or is that to simple. Bill
Interesting thought Drivers are quite mad you see irrational driving from all ages. Even Stirling moss eventually hung up his steering wheel. But here is a thought. I passed my test in a Vauxhall viva which revels to around 5200 rpm and had 44bhp These days I am ocassionally driving a car with 400 a 500 bhp and can rev to 8200/8400 rpm.Although I’m an oldie and just renewed my C1 I must confess I’m a little on the fence with issuing C1 licence to all in the future my reasoning is that when we passed our tests the roads were not quite as busy and also vehicles were probably not quite as powerful and big as what is on the roads today? However the road system is supposedly better(that’s another debate?) and vehicles have much more in the way of safety features so I think in all it balances out?
So good luck to new drivers if they do get their C1 automatically they will have to learn as we did to drive larger heavier vehicles safely with competence without extra training? Glad I got mine when driving was a bit less stressful than it is today.
As for the standard of driving today it seems there are lots of drivers out there who don’t think they should indicate where they are going expect others to be mind readers? Also think they have the right of way wherever they drive and get very angry at other drivers for no other reason than they think they are being impeded or inconvenienced?
There are also those out there that think anyone over 65 should not be driving anyway? I do think that us oldies should be kept a check on but as long as we are safe to drive allowed to carry on
Yes, I apologise. It was in the Original Post..
However……A Frames legal in the U.K…That is exactly the point I was making in my post
I see where you come from but not the same thing as what the category you are allowed to drive on a U.K. licence and how it applies abroad. At one time certain lorry’s we’re not allowed in the U.K. because they were over our allowed weights if I remember correctly so you could have a licence but they type of vehicle was banned. Wasn’t it the same for some American RV’ and some german caravans due to width? However……A Frames legal in the U.K…
Use of A-frame outside UK
The views expressed above are only applicable for the UK. We understand that these view are not shared in other European countries and we would not recommend use of an A-frame outside the UKwithout some investigation of the rules that apply in the relevant country. We are unable to comment on, or enter into correspondence on, the situation in other countries as this will be governed by their domestic laws, together with the Vienna Convention.

The trick I think is to stay current with knowledge and practice regarding driving, I have a mate who should have stopped driving at the age of 50 harsh but true. He has no idea of hatched markings let alone safe driving. Yet you can get a 75 or 80 year old who is safe and competent so personally I do not think age in itself is a barrier but attitude knowledge and fitness (physically fit)
Angle Morts signs, yes if your bus goes over 3500kg, you have to wear themWill that also affect "Angles Mortes" signs? What about all those towns and villages with 3.5T restrictions? Will they be up-rated. You may be able to have a heavier van but able to get to less places.
I posted something along these lines from a French magazine last monthI’ve just read in the German Reisemobil* magazine (or at least I think I have - my German is not what it was!) that the EU has been consulting until the end of May on a proposal to raise the permitted weight on a standard car licence in the EU from 3500kg to 4250kg. As far as I can see this is not specifically related to the idea of raising weight limits for electric vans to reflect battery weight, which I believe has also been suggested.
Has anyone else seen mention of this proposal, maybe in France?
And wouldn’t it be ironic if , despite the claims of Rees-Mogg & co, we ended up with less freedoms as a result of leaving the EU!
(* Just a heads up - if you use Readly, you can read the German Reisemobil & Promobil magazines there. Both make our own magazines look very amateurish - bigger home market, I guess.)
