Engine oil and filter change ?

2.12 Tyres and wheels

These will be inspected to check for:

  • condition
  • security
  • tyre size and type
  • tread depth
Spare wheels and tyres are not inspected.

Vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2012 will be checked to make sure the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) MIL is working.

Yep always done my own servicing & any mot repairs needed. Brakes, suspension & exhaust etc are relatively easy (to me) spanner jobs.
Would not tackle timing belt though I’m happy to get that done at garage.
ive had diesels since 1981 & driven 10- 20k a year & never changed a fuel filter. The first car , vw Jetta had a drain plug for the water & I did occasionally use it. After that I just left well alone.
cars were Jetta, Citroen bx, Peugeot 405, seat Alhambra, fiat Maxi bus 2.8jtd. All except the fiat were well past 150k when I sold them on & ran perfectly. Fiat only had 117k.

I suspect modern vehicles may be more sensitive & need the fuel filter done?

I’ve now got a sucker for the oil, down the dipstick job Less mess.

Only problem with the sucker is (I might ne wrong here) but any sediment doesn't come up?
I used to do everything myself, clutches, timing belts, never attempted a head gasket. Glow plugs always scare me incase they snap when coming out.
Do nearly bugger all now, can't be bothered.

Yes agree on the sediment so do take the plug out occasionally as well.

That's interesting, I thought, until now, that vehicles did not need a spare fitted but, if it was, like everything else fitted, it had to work (if it was bald it couldn't) 🤔
How is it, that an extra aftermarket, fitted rear fog light has to work, but a spare doesn't??

After my recent experience which wasn't the first time they had screwed up I am starting to do routine maintenance stuff myself again for the first time in over a decade.
I was just getting them to do the service when it was in for it's MOT.

But with them screwing up
1) Alternator change - tucking the power steering pump out of the way which kinked the pipes and caused it to make a nasty noise and steering to not work properly.
2) Took 4 attempts to replace the auxilary/fan belt. Kept getting the wrong one.
3) incorrect fitting of seal on fuel filter causing the engine to cut out randomly as it sucked in air.

So at bare minimum I will be doing air, oil and water filter changes in future.
