OK, I'll rewrite my letter and change it to a C&MHC greenfield CL site in Wales.

My point is:
I have yet to see my first EV charging point on a UK campsite (Seen a couple in Germany).
It would appear most UK campsites are not yet ready for the day when the majority of vehicles arriving are EV's and expect to be able to trickle charge overnight.

I'm only aware of one UK site where electricity is metered (Shingle Hall Farm near Rye) although no doubt there will be others.
Why would EVs be expecting to trickle charge overnight? Even on a fairly small car I only get about 7 miles of charge per hour on a three pin socket but I could charge a lot more quickly on a public charger on the way there. Don't get me wrong if it was available and cheap I would but it needn't be essential in fact with a huge by comparison battery on board and EV would be very good off grid for some time.

I had no idea it was so few miles per hour.

That said, an overnight charge would give you 100 miles.

Destination chargers are often 7kW, same as home AC charger. Enough to charge most stuff overnight. And most people don't arrive empty and need to be full the next day.

I've seen several UK campsites with an EV charging point now. But not on pitches yet. Only at a dedicated parking spot. So no good for EV mohos yet. But we're a few years away from them being more than a novelty. It'll improve.

Seen a few now?

Refurbished CAMC sites have them;

At a nice site on the IoW.

To be honest, I don't need them, so don't go looking for them.

One paragraph in the next Budget could change this at the stroke of a pen, however it would need to have an upper limit (say10% above the current rate paid by the meter owner), because you can bet that every single owner of an HMO, student accommodation, hostel, Air BnB, etc. would immediately add the 10% to every tenant.
You apply it specifically to sites only, ruling out any type of housing.failing that you make all in your quote liable to have the electric bill in the tenants name ,so ruling that out also.
That said, an overnight charge would give you 100 miles.
Not a lot of use on a long distance run.

In the top right hand of the photo, part of the stage structure seems to be attached to the van ! I'm going with fake news, or a witch hunt?

Well spotted. If you follow the roof line from the front to the back it is obvious an AI generated image.

If the prices hinted at are to be believed, with the range it will be a bargain.
I can't that can being correct, to get a 600 mile range it would need something like a 250kwh battery, to 80% charge that in 10-15 minutes would need chargers capable of about 800kwh! Not many of those around, and certainly not on sites.
It will come though and the huge low end torque of an electoral would be perfect for slogging up hills.

Wouldn't do well on the Pot Holes and Speed Bumps arounnd me!

No point in changing from your Michelin Camper Tyres. Just get used to the ride.

I think it's a conspiracy against FLT's who never visit places with EHU.

If I owned a campsite I'd be arranging rewiring with metered bollards suitable for EV's to be installed within the next 18 months.
if by chance motorhomes become EV’s and you have 200-300 staying for a night or two can you imagine the amount of energy that will need to be delivard to site and on to each vehicle. Metering bollards would be the least of your worries…you would have to consider a small or medium substation just to charge the vehicles. Attached is an image of a Tesla charging station.

Only if they all turn up empty! I have never seen a diesel pump on a site yet diesel powered vehicles arrive and leave every day! Yes ev owners prefer to charge at home its way cheaper than using a charger but why would they all need to charge on a site?

Because you would need to ask an electrician but suspect if you install X chargers you need to ensure that X chargers in the network will all be able to provide power at the same time whether someone is topping up or a full charge of empty batteries.

My point is no one refuels a diesel motorhome on site. Why should everyone who has an EV motorhome need to charge on site? If they did why would they need high speed chargers when they're there overnight for many hours? It's not realistic to say that they are all going to need to recharge or that something like a Tesla charger is needed on every pitch.

And they'll only need to be slow 'destination' chargers. So only a tenth of the output of a supercharger.

There's also the possibility of making the chargers smart. So it adjusts and shifts the charge rate across the connected vehicles in a coordinated way in to reduce the peak demand.

Why? Some people only stay overnight you will I suggest need upgrades at sites someone here would be able to do the electric charging math for 200 vehicles

You don't have diesel pumps on site. I am at a loss why anyone would expect to be able to fully charge their ev on site.

Some sites may offer it as a marketing point. But it is not necessary.
The one major problem in the UK is as a 'landlord' (Campsite owner, Car park owner, etc) you are not permitted to 'sell' electricity at above the rate you pay for it.
Only if it is for accomodation purposes. A campsite could install a charger specifically for charging and EV and that would not have the same restriction.

But again. sites are not forced to allow charging.

I don’t like the man, he repulses me, but I think what he is doing with technology will shape the world.
But not for the better that's for sure

Controversial opinion I know
But technology is actually killing us

No but there are a million fuel stations and filling up takes a few minutes . If you're not charging them somewhere they're parked overnight then where are you charging them? Parking a motorhome in the UK is hard enough never mind parking one to charge it.

Sure if you store it at home and only ever go away for 1 night at a time then you could just charge it at home but in the real world ....it don't work

How long do you think it takes to charge an EV on a public charger?

Diesel vehicles tend to have a longer range on a tankful than EV’s therefore don’t need refueling as often, also 10 minutes in a petrol station is long enough to fully fuel up !

How is it doing that?
Mental health on the rise , greater gap than ever between poor and wealthy

And my favourite , no quiet overnight parking spots anymore , more height barriers , more paid carparks. More bad press against motorhomes etc etc etc

The Internet and mobile phones are the two things I wish had never been invented

Yes they do good and we all have them , but they have eroded so much in the meantime, the effects of which has yet to be truly realised but is now being talked about more and more.

I don’t know but at a guess from a quarter charge to full is at least an hour, 5 mins for my diesel in the same situation.
