Has anyone fitted an electric step to the front passenger door as my good lady who is neither a high jump champion or an Amazon and finds the step up and down even worse? Any sensible suggestions besides stilts please?

Cheers, thank for going to the trouble of taking these pix. Weather up in the Lakes is a bit grim for me today but will be back on it asap. Thanks again Lenny.

Beautiful warm sunny day down here. :xsmile:
“Thats because you pay your rates on time and demand Formica”
Up norf its been sleet, rain etc and hovering between 1&3 degrees.
Must get better soon I hope.
Step wise I have sorted out the size of the step case and made a cardboard mockup and will see how it looks when its fit for me to lie on my back under the moho.
Thanks again for the photos.

Hymer B578 2012 RHD (so this step on passenger side ie nearside)
In between showers/ heavy rain I have done more horizontal viewing of the underneath of my B 578 and with the aid of a couple of youtube videos have decided how to fix it and sourced the materials and ordered the step( from Magnum with a nice negotiated discount).
I plan to do the wiring with the ignition warning light/ buzzer scheme. One question is the step motor normally wired off the hab battery or the engine battery ? Also am I right I can pick up the trigger wire for the alarm off the cigarette lighter?

On mine the trigger is done via a switch on the lower door latch so when the door is opened the step goes out and when the door is closed the step goes in. I think the step is powered from the hab batteries I don't think it matters which battery the power to the step is taken from. You need to take the buzzer relay from a D+ otherwise it will buss all the time door is open rather than just when the door is open with the engine running. Should be a D+ Schaudt relay box around somewhere probably under your drivers seat or you can pick it up on the front of the EBL.

Thanks again for your professional guidance. I will see if I can find the wiring diagram for the auto open linked to the door. Thanks again.
addendum… just realised for auto operation a Thule control box is needed. May prove too expensive so unless I can find one cheap enough will make do with switch operation.

Progress update, step arrived, more bolts etc bought, more sketches produced but anything more on hold awaiting better weather here. I have now switched to an indoor project, front hab door addition of window switch on drivers side.

We woke up to snow on monday morning but the sun was out so when the sub zero temps reached 0 I started. I made a temporary platform to rest the step on and position the front fixings( all thread drop rods from unistrut in approx the reqd position. As soon as i fitted the step at the front rods the rear fouled the diesel filler pipe. My only solution is to move the step 100mm towards the front wheel which puts the step 100mm off centre of the door. Cant see any other option at present. (Or does your step go under the filler pipe ?)
Lenny, in your picture is the inner chassis flange cut away for the width of the step or does the step fit under that flange? Photo shows dark/ sunshine and Im not sure whether it is or not. Sorry to ask but it is not easy lying in the snow at 0 degrees !

Minus 3.5 at the moment, it's just not on down here, not got above zero all day & looking after daughter's dawg this week. Luckily the wind had dropped when I walked her on the beach so not too bad.

Sounds just like Cumbria, I didnt think you ever had weather that bad.
If its that bad dont worry about my step info.

I have been thinking of doing the same as it would be useful when I am travelling alone. Do you have a schematic/electrical diagram?
I suspect that the hardest bit will be running wires behind the dash. The switch on my door is a toggle switch, is yours?
Good luck with fitting the step. I'm not sure on my 2006 sprinter A class that I can get secure fixings to the chassis to do what you are doing.

I dont think you need to run cables behind the dash. I will attach a wiring diagram. I am hoping to pick up connections in the locker by the B pillar. Look on you tube for fitting to a sprinter, plenty of info giving hints etc. Also look for sprinter fitting kits which will show what you basically need to source. Im sure I have seen videos of folks fitting to sprinters.32605B0B-3DAE-413D-92D1-61234435CE7E.jpeg

Paddymcc, sorry I think my first response is for the addition of a window switch. On mine they are six pin and found them on ebay.

Gerry77 Just been out and raised the suspension and had a grovel under the van. No mods to the chassis the brackets just bolt onto the bottom of the chassis, I think it's a box section so they probably used Rivnuts.

Well, I have spent this morning setting out the step generally as Lenny HB’s lastest snaps and I have managed to get it to work. I think my problem was I was trying to fit the step too high. It is still 25 mm higher than the exhaust so hopefully should be adequate ground clearance. Will post photos when all lined and levelled! Thanks again to Lenny HB.

Weather better today so on with wiring.
90 % sorted except for D+ connection, easiest would be the ebl. I have ebl 99 but I attach photo of the mass of wires, ebl handbook extracts.Block 1 wires are black, brown yellow(2) and red. Help would be appreciated again.Sorry.

Yes you can connect to Block 1 Pin 2, your arrow points to Pin 3. You can double check with a meter you should only see 12v with engine running.
If there is a wire in that pin cut the wire and splice your wire in with a 3 way Wago block.

Great, thanks again. Will check with meter and as you say splice in with my new box of wagos.
It seems that the ebl was moved and short extension leads have been fitted to extend the connections on to the ebl. Does the wiring diagram not show wire colours to help us or would that be too much to ask?

No but on my Hymer it's yellow.

On my Hymer too.
It looks like mine could be too!
When I ran a D+ to my B2B I followed the yellow wire back from the EBL. It came from a relay under the passenger seat and I found it more convenient to take the D+ from there to the B2B. I guess it will depend which is nearer to you step as to where you take it from

Yep a Schaudt relay box that feeds other items switched by the D+.
