Can they be fixed at any height for sleeping or transit, or only at preset positions? I am only 5 foot tall, and my ten-agear has yet to reach even theses dizzy heights. This means we don’t need nearly the amount of headroom provided in most MHs. I’m wondering if I can lower the bed to a height that works for her, and I can still walk underneath without farting about with beds every day?!

Seeing as you like to have a 'task' to do :giggle:... do you think it would be possible to lower the seat back backwards more so it reclines further rather than having to do it forwards to use the bed?

STOP DOING THAT! 😉

I have just been out with my yardstick to measure. And while I was measuring, I put the seats back to see if that worked. That’s the third time in this thread I have had a bright idea, and popped along here and you’ve just posted it 🤣

Right, the girlchild needs about 20 inches to be able to sit up, so allowing a few of extra ones for growth, bedding and what not, then I reckon 24 will be comfortable. This is about 9 inches above the stops. There is still a 2 degree slope at this point, which I do not think is tolerable, but that it is easily solved with wedges under the sheet, if there is no adjustment in the gas struts for the angle to flatten out sooner. At this level the seats can be reclined rather than folded forwards. It means they won’t be useable, but it does work, and I will have the corner to put my feet up in.

For the stowed position, I reckon about four or five inches lower than normal should do it. This doesn’t affect visibility at all, as it’s only a couple of inches at the front and not lower than the blind, and should allow for the current stuffed toy menagerie at least. It’s hard to be exact, there’s a good foot at the front, but obviously some of that will be taken up with bedding and wedges (or levelling). She doesn’t use as many pillows as me, and will store most of her toys in lockers above the dinette. I will have to give up the wardrobe, I think, but I’d rather give up the wardrobe than my pillows!

Okay, okay ... now please confirm ... I thought you slept in the drop down and she was in the rear, but she's getting evicted from the rear and into the front I assume.

If that's the case then this is how to sort the menagerie and wedge situation in the drop down bed ... remove the existing mattress and instead get a bespoke single one made that incorporates 'wedges' to level it, then in the gap left between it and the front edge she'll have loads of room for all her junk etc and you might then not have to have it lower than its usual stowed position.

I'm running away for a while in case you're exploring my suggestion above and want to come back and hit me for posting it before you return. :imoutahere:

Idea for supports for the bed used 'upside down' and fixed where the existing bump stops are ... these are about 6 inches but you can get various lengths:

It was not a personal attack. You did say "I wouldn't want an electric one ever, because that's a hostage to Murphy's Law. If it can go wrong, it will." I was simply pointing out that other than living in a cave, one cannot avoid that level of technology wherever one is these days. There is really very little in most electric beds to go wrong.
You are trying to reframe your post #100. Next time you insinuate something derogatory on a personal level, I will push the report button, something I have never done in all my years on Fun. I don't mind banter, nor a disagreement about electric drop down beds, but you crossed a line when you aimed at me instead of the topic.

I hadn’t thought of that yet.

Last summer, she had the rear transverse and used it for a fixed bed/Princess Palace/Toy Store. With Aircon. That worked well for her. I had the drop down and hated it, plus it fell on my head a lot. I’m now hopeful that I can mod the drop-down sufficiently so that it works for her, with the car seat in situ. Enabling me to have my very own locker, my pillow-fort, somewhere to put my coffee and to be able to sit up and drink it while nosing at the neighbours. She gets a ‘high bed’, full curtains, a window and enough storage to keep it tidy, but carry her own stuff. (And I stop eyeing up overweight C-lines with nice kitchens and never move the car seat again)

Always assuming no one actually tries to buy it. And that we’re allowed to go anywhere this summer.....

If you are seriously considering keeping it DO NOT SAY SO ON HERE - read your broker's T&Cs FIRST ...

Don’t worry, I know what I’ve signed. Let’s just say I’m not open to offers! I really should sell it, because of the stupid mortgage thing (I am SOOOOO fed up of mortgages!) But if it does sell, I’m likely to go for a drop down bed again now, so my mods won’t be wasted (and of course, they are all neatly transferable!)
