A connector can be 'panel-mount' or 'in-line'. So the van end of the EHU cable has an inline socket, which mates with a panel-mount plug fixed to the van. At the other end of the EHU cable is an inline plug, which plugs into a panel-mount socket.

Sorry to be pedantic but surely the connector fitted in the side of the van, is a plug, the mating part on your extension lead is a socket, otherwise your extention lead could potentially have two live pins,Changing the socket on the van side, not the plug

Oops, sorry I was short of time, and didnt read much before posting,You might want to read the thread....
I think you may be confusing the op more.....I think it's correctly termed a bulkhead or panel male 16a Ceeform. In theatres the bit on the cable that fits into the bulkhead male is a 'flying female' but is more commonly known as a free socket or free female.
That said these things have various names Ceeform, Commando, plug,, male, socket, female, free, in-line, floating, bulkhead, panel, fixed, static etc. just make sure you get the right one.
