I am hoping to have a trip up to the field this next week just to have a look (as advised by the land agent) to see how big the field is and maybe to have a chat to the Rally Marshall of the C&CC THS.

At the moment I have 41 screen names on my handwritten list so it looks like it will be a good rally........

We were there earlier this week. Probably about 50 units at the time and room for several more.
The C&CC Stewards were very friendly and I'm sure they would be helpful.

As the earlier post mentioned, buses (33 and 49) leave around every 20 minutes from more or less outside the gate.
For people who don't have Scottish concession cards, Lothian Buses single journey fairs are standard £1.70 (80p child) but you can also buy a Day Ticket for £4 which allows unlimited journeys on Lothian day services, East Coast Buses zones A & B, Lothian Country buses city zone and trams (except the airport fare zone). Family tickets available as well.
The Border Buses X95 service between Edinburgh and Carlisle also stops there and charges the same for single journeys.

I have 47 on my "notify" list :) Of course I won't know the final numbers until people have paid up but I am sure I will need one or two extra marshalls (the rally is camping fee free for marshalls, and we will divide "duty time" between us so everyone gets time away from the rally field)

It's certainly big enough and the field goes up and round I would think it would easily take 80 vans, the only worry would be about wet grass but because it's been used the last couple of years the ground maybe quite firm. The area is fairly quiet shouldn't be any problems on that front as I stay locally the only reason I haven't put my name down is because it would feel a bit like a bus man's holiday, as I could walk over which I have done many a time with the dogs :)

It’s not the same walking over bring you van and join in with all of us it’s fun and you can always marshal it free then .
 
I went to have a look round the field today and it all looks good. the C&CC have a THS there at the moment and the warden / marshal on duty was very welcoming and informative. :)

He did point out that the estate DO NOT provide a waste disposal service for household rubbish so I will need to hire a skip or similar and will have to add that to the cost calculations :( . I have the name and number of the people the C&CC have used.

Once we are back from our travels and the Christmas celebrations are over and done with I will be sending messages to the people who have expressed an interest (I have a hand written list). At that point I will ask for non-refundable deposits to secure places. People will be added to a published list as they pay their deposits. A week after that I will change the heading on this thread to a yellow rally flag and if there are still spaces it will be first to pay gets onto the list - and once the list is full there will be a reserve list with first on the reserve list having a time limited opportunity to pay and move onto the main list :)

Around six weeks before the rally I'll ask for the balance of the payment. This will also be non-refundable as at that point I have to confirm numbers and make payment to the venue.

I am sorry to have to do things this way but have learned through experience that some people book on to rallies and then drop out at the very last minute leaving a space someone else could have had - and a hole in the budget. I HAVE to cover the costs after all. If there is a surplus it will go to a charity yet to be decided.
 
If my list is correct I now have 49 or 50 expressions of interest (not sure if @irnbru and @rupert will be bringing one van or two).

I know that things don't go as planned and that people will have to drop out due to things beyond anyone's control but it looks like we will have a very good rally!
