My wife and I are senior citizens [me 74 her 68] so mobility is a bit of an isseu due to hips etc. Would love e-bikes but cannot manage to pedal without pain. Weight restrictions on 3.5T Rimor means my first choice of a small m/cycle not in the equation. I am left with the possibility of us getting e-scooters to commute between Aires and towns/beaches and places of interest. Just wondered if any other Funsters had tried it out.

They are, of course, illegal, both here and in Europe and you run the risk of points for no insurance etc, etc. And they can be confiscated on the spot.

Having said that, law enforcement seem unconcerned about their use at the moment.

A woman went past me t'other day, sat on one, doing about 28mph sans helmet, or any other protective gear.

Cheers
Red.

My advice would be don't, for a whole host of reasons. Fine for getting around a campsite. (Age 74¾, still biking)
Have you actually tried one ? That would be the first thing - go to a city and rent one...

We have just bought 2 of these for getting around, they have the twist & go option plus pedal assist if you wish. They are really well made and are on sale direct from the manufacturer for less than. £400 each. Fiido D3

e-scooters to commute between Aires and towns/beaches and places of interest.
They are legal here in spain now but have rules. The first being that they are totally illegal being used on a pavement,as is any electric vehicle. Subject to same rules as any vehicle, no mobile use, no headphones, hi-viz needed, Lights front & rear, helmet at all times.wheels must be 8" or above.Existing are ok up to some date I cannot remember when they all become illegal. a few other rules also.https://n332.es/rules-for-riding-e-scooters/#google_vignette.

Public liability,if you can get it , as if deemed to be at fault in any incident you are personally liable. Barcelona,Madrid & Alicante all require you to have insurance.

I am sure the Op said they cannot do ebikes as it gives them pain when riding which i can understand as my wife cannot ride push bikes or ebikes of any kind due to pain (medical condition), i have also thought about e-scooters but i am aware of the risks. Some say they are good some say they are dangerous i think its a personal preference as long as you know the risks involved and get out of the way :)

Two oldies doing 3/4 mph on the pavement on a scooter is not a problem as they are no where as big as mobility scooters with old farts who can’t control the them

I don’t know much about e scooters. They are illegal on public roads and paths, but are often seen. Just looked up some info and they seem to have 8inch wheels, sometimes solid and sometimes pneumatic. As such, they are likely to give a very hard ride, not good for hips or knees. The bigger the wheels, the better the ride.

Go for the scooters, get the chunky tyre version, and long range can do about 40k if you choose wisely.

Ignore the feds, put a scarf over ya face, answer every sentance with "init" "bro" and "you know what I'm saying"...
Doing this immediately makes you unarrestable and invisible to the authorities.

My advice would be to start dealing some low level pot to keep you safe 🙏 if successful at this, upgrade to some county line coke.

If and its a big IF you or the Mrs get gravied, keep stum let ya brief case do the talking and plead a terrible upbringing and blame the government for all failings in life..

You'll be fine bro..

Ps mind the potholes....

Thanks all for the advice. I think on our travels we will try and hire a couple of twist and go bikes and see how mrs K can cope. Would prefer to be legal but if all else fails a test flight on a e-scooter and see what mr plod can throw at us! Would have considered a small scooter/m/bike trailer but the weight of the tow bar and trailer nose weight alone will put us way overweight.😒

Have had a Pure Air Pro e-scooter for 3 years now 50 km range (realistically 20km on full throttle) 24kph, ideal when escorting Madame on her wheelchair hand bike, folds and goes in MH garage.
Living in Germany they are of course legal, liabilty insurance 28 Euro a year.
Germany req insurance but no helmet, Italy req Helmet but not insurance ( and they are classed as a bicycle) , Spain is legal , I actually got it in Valencia).
Ideal as a MH addition, execpt for the UK of course, when we come in May, I will have to chuck my bike on the rack......

And again ....not legal on UK roads or public tracks/paths.
Must be peddle assist, not throttle control.
Throttle is allowed to assist walking next to the bike at 1or 2 mph but is very low powered and not capable of powering the weight of a rider.
People selling these know the law but prefer not to inform the buyer

We have a basic one with 25km range. Very useful for nipping around on, ours is 15km max speed. Hard to carry a lot though, only a rucksack really works but easy and rapid charging and great on cycle paths.

Hard to imagine that a trailer/ hydra trail easy lifter would be any heavier than 2 e bikes
🥹
The actual trailer is not the problem as the nose weight is not that great. The problem is the tow bar weight is around 50kg that has to be permanently fitted. I just have not got the available weight to spare especially when travelling with a couple of family members. when 4up I doubt enough spare load for 2 e-scooters will be possible. I really regret not continuing my C1. M/homes over 3.5 ton get punished anyway with the extra insurance fuel breakdown cover etc.

I am indeed an old fart, but I also have extremely good control of my "Davros style" power chair .....

..... So please rest assured that if I accidentally run over your foot, I will have done it deliberately ! ;) :giggle:

No idea where you've got that from, no difference for us 3.5+, in fact quite a benefit in that road tax is only £165 a year!

As I have heel pad degradation at 66 years old I too was looking for an e scooter or Segway for use abroad for doing the touristy bits but Segways aren’t built anymore and E scooters are such a lottery maybe I have to get a mobility scooter after all😐😳

They are everywhere in Spain and very few wear any safety equipment at all. I often wonder how many accidents are caused by them. A couple of years ago I had to take drastic avoidance action to miss one on a bend on my bike. The rider was in his sixties, shorts and T shirt no helmet. But he was wearing a face mask😂😂
