Having hired them a few times last year we thought about buying a couple - but in the end decided they weren't a practical option. I wouldn't want to carry much shopping on one (it'd be far too unstable) and the longest we could comfortably ride them was 20-30 minutes. Plus we felt a lot more vulnerable in traffic than when we were on our bikes. Also many of them don't fold down particularly small meaning storage is an issue and I was surprised just how heavy and awkward they are to manhandle around....you certainly couldn't bring them inside shops and pubs, but we couldn't work out how to effectively lock them up whilst out and about either.
We'll still hire them occasionally because they're great fun, but for our MH trips we'll stick with our ebikes for now.

, if you have your own scooter then insurance is required in Germany at least, but as I read properly that you hire them then the question is irrelevant.....put it down to a senior moment
