E Scooter instead of E Bike......?

We have these, I’m on the larger size, so mine is uprated (Black Cruzaa) to 150kg (I’m large but not 150kg!! Just to be clear) weigh load!

Not quite the scooter vs bike debate but If you already have a bikes why not convert them? I’ve seen this on kickstarter and it looks a great idea https://www.livall-pikaboost.com/pikaboost/index.html

I’ve “purchased”a few things off kickstarter and have been lucky in that I’ve got what I’ve paid for, but usually later than expected, but there is a risk that you could lose your money if the project goes bust.

How long have you had them? Do you use them much and for what purposes please? What alternative modes of getting around do you have / use?
We sold our electric bikes bought the scooters used them in Germany and France.30 mile charge in them we just loved them even took them in the pub with us.

The nice thing about scooters is the ability to fold, then carry them with you, and even put them beside you when in restaurants/bar. EBikes cost a good few thousand and you have to trust they will be where you left them.

Thinking of getting one of these Sit on scooter for SWMBO, does anyone have any experience of them.

I wouldn't fancy going far on an e-scooter in cold or wet weather. Far too exposed standing still at 15kph or more. It's bad enough cycling, when you are working fairly hard & generating some heat!

Another one that has recently bought 2. We got ours from Moose.com as they sell customer returns, ex- display all things e-bike scooters etc. from various brands. Like others have said, great fun and I’ll be using mine more that my wife…..we are still trying to get her confidence up on them……so if you’re in Louth and on an industrial estate on a Sunday morning you’ll find me holding on to my wife running down the road and her shouting “DONT LET GO”…..we’ll get there……
In case anyone is looking g the correct link is moose.co

Yes, forgot to mention that. Don’t be worried and thinking it’s a dodgy site due to the .co we found them very good and responsive. We bought the 8Tev escooter from them. Brand new they are £1500 and we paid £670 as a nearly new description. When it arrived, which was the next day after ordering it had never been used, all original packaging etc. 0km’s. Would deffo use them again.

Hi there. If we are talking the small wheel platform things, I would be very careful the steering is very direct, and can cause wobble very easily. Also the wheels are very small so a small stone or pothole can be a disaster. They are really good for short hops around the paddock on a race track, or similar flat, good surfaces but anywhere on British road and you will spend a lot of time in A&E or the dentist.

This might be of interest from my posting last year. The post title is “What in the name is a Coopop” The company has a reasonably priced UK wide delivery service.

That looks great but it weighs in at 46kgs with out the battery 🤔

And it’s £2k

I do like it a lot but both the above kills it for me.

I can think of occasions I could use one of these, and the other thing is that when the battery's flat, you can just scoot like in your younger days! Never actually considered one before. Might go for it. Smaller one for Mrs D, but not sure she would. She doesn't like gaskets/electronics.

That’s what i thought but it seems most of them can’t be manually scooted along once the battery is flat, bit of a bummer

E scooters are not to be used on public roads or pavements in the UK.

So where can you use them?
They are not for UK use yet, but if you channel hop they are useful and fun.....I don't carry my bike any more just the scoot, Pure air pro.

Just a question: What do you do regarding insurance?

You can just hire them in cities like liverpool,so how can they be illegal?🤷‍♀️

They have ‘trials‘ in various locations in the UK……

Decathlon are fine but normally the kit is at the cheaper end
Oy!! 😳🤪
Cheap is good. The spec can be good still (y)
‘Can’t speak for all their range but my BTwin Alur Road bike from them is 1/3 cheaper than the equivalent spec Giant model.

Also, Halfords’ Boardman bikes are good spec for the price - but you need to look over the bike you’ve just collected pre-ride. On my Boardman Hybrid the cassette wasn’t fully fitted on. 👀

I use a push scooter in place of a bike or car for around town and I am amazed at it's convenience. It's like running very fast everywhere.

Where I live, electric scooters have become very common. For clarity, Spain's requirements are that you need a helmet but can't go faster than 25kmh on an electric scooter. There is talk of introducing a public liability insurance following some very unfortunate accidents and they have just been banned from the Barcelona metro and suburban train services for a 6 month period following several fires caused by lithium batteries exploding - I presume people were using the train's sockets to try to charge them.

I don't have a car alternative to my MH, so use the train and/or a push bike when I have a longer distance to travel (not often), but have recently taken up the push scooter for around town.

The great thing is that you can bring the scooter into a building where you have to leave the bike outside and lock it up. I don't need any special clothes for the scooter or a helmet because it isn't electric, and it can go where a bike might not be welcome or practical - like pedestrian areas in a town. Where I live, you'll be fined €200 for riding a bike or electric scooter in the pedestrian areas, but mine's not electric!

It takes me about 6-7 minutes to get home on my bike and just under 10 on the scooter going the same route, compared to nearly 20 walking.

Be careful with your wheels - my Decathlon scooter has plastic wheels which make it dangerous in the wet, so rainy days = no scooter!

Wouldn't be without one now - but no electrics!

Spain req´s a helmet but not insurance,
Barcelona,Madrid & Alicante all require you to have insurance.
Forget E scooters,

E skateboards are the way forward, even more compact 😂

And relatively lightweight so can carry into a shop/pub/workplace etc

Has 10mile range, stupid speeds if required, damn good fun and extremely dangerous

& in spain is classed the same as a scooter ,along with segways, electric unicycles & hoverboards requiring the front ,side & rear reflectors , can only be used on the road or bike lanes ,illegal on pavement ,etc, etc,

Hire ones are legal, personal ones aren't

As I said I’m Not knocking Decathlon and it is at the cheaper end, the products get people in to a sport. Same as Halfords but often it’s the bits bolted to a bike frame for example that helps to push the costs up or the paddle board from Decathlon is Not the same as one you would purchase from RED, sure the Decathlon ones will get you on the water but you soon see the difference when you paddle them but one is £300 the othe £1000.

Hi Phil D,

Worth remembering that this is actually a road legal moped and not an Escooter. or ebicycle (ebike).
Some e-bikes weigh up to 35kg and more, and the Coopop, when the battery is removed only weighs 35kg. I store my battery in the Motorhome where it can be charged independently if required. This weight allows it to be carried on a standard Fiamma bike rack on the rear of the Motorhome if required. The Fiamma max weight is around 60kg.

I think it doubtful if a lighter road legal moped could be found - allowing the flexibility of storage and transport.

It may be of course that even 35kg it may be too much especially if you are at the limit of your payload - and in such a case, any E vehicle may not be possible for you to carry or indeed even 2 normal cycles which weigh more.

With regards to price - £2k is cheap for a road legal moped of any type. Some e-bikes can cost much more than that.

Whilst not for everyone, it does offer an unequalled lightweight emoped, at a cheap price and which can be carried on most motorhomes. My Motorhome has a 3500kg limit - which I remain within.

I hope this additional info is helpful.

Thanks for the info Jim, I have an e hardtrail mountain bike but I’m getting to a point where I am not using it much.
All I really need now is a shopper when we are away.
I fully appreciate that is a decent bike but it would be wasted on me for the price.

Hi Phil,

I only use the Coopop for shops etc when away in EU - ideal for that!
Might be worth the occasional google search for a used one for sale over the months ahead!

Cheers
Jim
