Ducato Wing Mirror Protectors..Worth the money?

Yes and the other MH driver drive off!! On top of the wing mirror I had to have a dent removed out of the door! The mirror swung down on the cable and damaged the bodywork. All in 1300 quid and I gutted the new mirror myself! I am certain the guards I now have would have prevented this. Could have been much worse I guess

My Murvi passenger side mirror exploded when I accidentally hit an ambulance in Croatia trying to stay away from the steep drop on my side! You CANT get a pax side mirror for a rhd van in Europe…..ask me how I know!?
And it’s bloody dangerous driving a rhd van with no pax side mirror!!!!!

Mirror-guard set definitely but not the milenco thin rain covers!

The mirror guard ones have a similar construction to a motorcycle crash helmet, and are super shiny (even after five years of use).

We had an mirror to mirror incident with an opposing ducato motorhome in Scotland on a two way section of road, which disintegrated the opposing mirror, I had to polish mine out and pop one of the mirrors back into the housing. Saved the holiday!

I thought all mirror protectors were the same and bought cheap milenco ones. When I bought a secondhand pair of mirror guards off here I realised the quality is not the same!

Yes it was :). Other motorhome came around the bend towards me leaving me nowhere to go.

Saw a number of mohos in the same condition touring around the area!
That's exactly what happened to me September last year only difference was that the other guy drifted into my lane as was too busy waving or something else

How did you sort it out with the other driver when you stopped?
Unfortunately they didn’t stop, just left the debris on the road. They were in a hire MOHO and were waving at me as they came around the bend with smiling faces, there was a clear look of shock when the impending collision was inevitable, they were too far over, they did not account for the mirror overhang (opps). It could be they stopped a few miles down the road. I reported it to police in Fort William, but the other party did not.

We just pushed the mirror arm back out, and popped the mirror back in the housing as it had popped out with the force of the impact.

Very impressed with the Mirror guards though.

Not good, when it happened to me I stopped but the other driver just carried on! Shame I did not get registration

My mirror exploded yesterday when the on-coming driver swerved to avoid a pothole. It's the first time I've damaged a mirror in 23 years of MHing. I stopped but the other driver didn't, but I guess it's too trivial for the insurance to be worth claiming.

I bought a replacement long-arm mirror complete on fleabay for £67 including delivery. They are simple to fit having watched the YouTube video.

The £140 for mirror-guards would seem to be very expensive insurance, they'd probably get nicked next time I'm parked up and at 23 years for £67 mirror, it would take 46 years to break-even.

I have the very next day after taking my new Adria Coral home first trip out a white van man clipped the off side mirror at speed
Without the added protection definitely a new mirror would of been required
The day we collected our brand new Swift Escape in 2020, we passed through a tiny village 5 miles from home and an oncoming council lorry clipped the drivers mirror and cracked the indicator lens 😡

Fitted mirror guards asap afterwards.

Looking to get Funsters views on the value of Ducato wing mirror protectors. Do they provide a good level of protection? I don't want to spend on something that seems like a must have but turns out to be waste of money.
Not sure if they would have worked for me. A french van driver managed to remove the l/H mirror, all had left was two stubs, and a 550 euro bill for total replacement!!

It depends on your van. Our 2000 Hymer uses Merc/Daf mirrors. £20 each on Ebay. You can even have electric ones for the same price - sadly they are 24volt.

So far, one Right hand side mirror broken by Hire MH as we were pulled in which drove on along Loch Lomond. One left hand side mirror back cover broken by bird strike from a magpie at 40 MPH.

Yes definitely. I have a broken drivers wing mirror that my ex helpfully did & it's never got repaired but the mirror protectors actually cover the broken bit keeping it a bit more water tight & covers the unslightly damage

Another vote for mirror guards. Had an altercation with the corner of a stone house on a bend on a country road as I pulled in too close to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Only scratches on the cover & no damage to the passenger mirror despite there being one heck of a bang as I made contact.

My mirror guard came with sticky pad fixings to reinforce the already tight push fit so don’t think they are easily removed / stolen.

Def worth the money had a recent issue where we def would have lost the wing mirror but luckily only the proctors was damaged we could have left it on but decided to but a new one at last show it was left only £70

Our mirrorguards have the battlescars to prove their worth.
BossLady uses LHS as a distance gauge on narrow lanes.
I got wacked by a council van in Cornwall, he lost a whole door mirror my covers just a scratch.
Had a direct hit by a pheasant- mirror folded in 👍🏾- pheasant splatter down drivers side of MH 👻👻

The only point missing here is that if you are partway through an extended tour of EU and such an event occurs, going on eBay and getting a part delivered to a French etc campsite which you are staying in for the next few days is not a good option, plus it will cock-up the trip (could). Mirror guards just need a polish off and jobs a good-un, as they say.

Just my opinion, each to their own.
