Ducato engine/gearbox given up in France.

Yes but only up to €300. We're concidering flying back home if its going to take a while to repair.
Ok, let me know in any case.
I have my week end off ( not usual but it's Easter).
Around Blagnac it could be quite expensive. According to your needs concerning hotel, I could find something less expensive and drive you there. And if you're still around on Saturday, I could take you for a Toulouse visit.
You've got all the cards in your hands now!!;)(y)

OK, thankyou, but we need to get the van assesed first before we make any plans.

Just had a call with Benjamin, the man who explained you what it could be and the possible issues. He told me that if you have quickly stopped the engine it should not be too bad, if not... it's another story.
In any case you might not have the Moho before a week and a half, if they need changing all the damaged parts.
He told me that at least for tonight you could sleep in your Moho, so that's good, as me finishing at 6.15 and them closing at 6.00 , I would not have been able to come and pick you up quick enough especially with the traffic at that time of day.
I have asked him to be particularly nice and helpfull to you .... (big forum.. nice review blablabla...) as of course with all their clients!
You should have the full info this afternoon.
I cross my fingers it is not going to be too bad!

I would like to be freer to come and cheer you up a bit, but in the middle of the week I can't do it with my work!

Wow yodeli thats incredible, I don't know how to thank you. Thats so kind of you to call Benjamin and put in a good word for us, we really apreciate it.
Maybe we should chat via messaging in future, as this is more between us rather than the forum, I don't know. What do you think?

It is just as you wish but funsters like to know all about all! lol!
That's how I get cheeky comments as chaser's one! BTW I have now a very nice Kangoo Dear chaser that I can't drive the same way I drive the Skoda! :dance2::dance2::cycle:

Apparently there is no specific torque for the cam tensioner bolts according to the garage that repaired mine

I’ve heard that Gates the would cover the cost if it was the belt that went

Time and time again funsters have reported being charged way more than
they would in the UK.
If I were you I would push hard to get your pride and joy repatriated
back to the UK.
I hope it's a simple fix and that the OP gets going quickly.

"Speak as you find" they say. On our trip down here the "engine malfunction" warning light came on while we were North of Poitiers. The vehicle was driveable and wasn't in limp mode.

I found a (family run) Ford Garage in Ruffec on the Web and got there soon after they opened the following morning. He was diagnosing the fault with the Ford Etis software within 10 mins (a faulty air-sensor) gave me a quote (E180) which I accepted and was told to come back at 3pm when the part should have arrived. We arrived (at 3pm) as the part was being delivered and we were on our way at 3:45 pm.
- at the price quoted. While I was in the office paying a, recovered, campervan with an elderly French couple arrived and they were told it would be 4 days. The itemised bill is what I'd expect to pay in the UK

I've heard reports of people being ripped off by garages in the UK too. I'd like to think that foreign drivers touring the UK wouldn't feel that they were bound to be ripped off if they broke down.

P.S. When the garage owner came to test-drive the van my wife was sitting in the passenger seat. He asked me if I wanted to go with him and I said no. When she got back she said she'd never been driven so fast in her life - but reaslied he knew what he was doing and so didn't feel scared.

Well i need to make sure I breakdown near yodeli s place, talk about a common bond between the forum and Funsters and all because the lady loves milk tray we drive motorhomes.

Sending you big hugs Yodeli and hopefully a swift repair Mixyblob

2 mechanics just spent less than 5 mins looking under the bonnet and decided the belt HAS broken. When I asked them how they knew they said because the engine wont turn over.
Can't say they've filled me with confidence.

I've just had a look at the comments/reviews

This one is about cambelt

NOTE: HS means Hors Service = Broken

We had a cambelt go whilst driving with similar results to you, mechanic took oil cap off asked me to turn it over and diagnosed cam belt as nothing was moving, fixed it on roadside luckily nothing was out of timing but it was an older car. It went as we took foot off accelerator to slow down for some trafic lights so they may have diagnosed it the same way.

If it si cam belt you need to see the old one as you should be able to claim costs from the people who changed it before you left for using substandard materials.

So sorry to read this, we share the same fate, can't do right for doing #×%&ing wrong. I sincerely hope it's sorted soon and you can salvage some your trip, though it's going to a nervous drive.

I don't know how much you would pay for cambelt and water pump in the UK, but I had mine done on my hymer camp based on a Fiat ducato (1991) a week ago, plus number of other things done before MOT which was passed without any fault at all , and as you can see on my invoice, I paid 701,96 euros for it

We have had 2 cam belt associated failures over the years although the second was the cam belt tensuoner bearing. But the same terminal result. Swore never again to buy another vehicle with a can belt. Last big car, a Toyota Landcruiser failed with a big end failure at 74000 miles!! Camper is a based on a Sprinter. Fingers crossed.

Any good mechanic will know just by having a look…👍🏼

Your breakdown company will probably pay for you both to fly home but only pay for one to fly back and you will also need a suitcase or two to take some belongings with you.
ps was your loo empty we had a 7 week delay getting van back with Fiat shut for holidays as we use bio in toilet it wasn’t to bad.

£500 not a bad price!

Sounds like it's going to be very expensive if the garage that changed the belt don't take responsibility for it.

Do you know what belt kit was fitted?

No but I've asked the mechs to photograph as they're dismantling and keep all the broken bits. I feel I'm going to need all the ammo I can muster.

Are they going to repair it or will you try and get it recovered back to the UK?

Sorry about your problems and hope you get it fixed soon but I wonder what are your chances of getting redress from the garage which changed the belt. If it was a a reputable company you should be OK, however if it was one of the thousands of back street places they may not be interested and don't have insurance. Keep a record and bring back old parts. Good luck

Could it be air con clutch? Istr that jammed everything, but failure was preceded by screeching rather than clanking. (Also this was on car not mh.)
