Driving licence turn around

What if i have lost it?
I always play the lost it card, so far no problems. Last renewal took nine days. I didn’t send my old licence away and it cost me nothing. This included dropping my C+E but keeping C1. I also renewed my photo.

Might add C plus E and also add provisional D why not. Looks like there will lots of driving jobs coming up.

😂😂😂. You are more than welcome to as many truck driving jobs as you want. Never say never but it would be a cold day in hell before I go truck driving again.

Sent mine off for change of address two months ago, still waiting! I’ve called, lines too busy so it hangs up and the online chat is the same. but It does seem, incompetence is measured by covid these days.
i suggest you photograph your license before you send it off

If you are 70yrs then you can't renew on line if you want to drive over 3.5tons, don't know why you would request forms from the DVLA that just adds to the wait, you can pick them up from the post office they have them there.

I used D4D for my medical they also had the forms, it's really straight forward, you'll need to send photos and your current licence, pointless trying to phone the DVLA mush easier to use their website to check on the progress of your renewal.
Make sure you send it registered or at least signed for, mine took 14 weeks arrived all ok.

Has anyone sent off there licence? If so what time scale before it came back.
Need to send a medical form with it .
But don't want it lost 😭 or stuck in a pile as I want to go through France in January 🤠
Just renewed our licenses online, got back in three days, no forms though all online.

No PO's around here had the forms,
You cannot check progress of a postal application on line
Post is signed for by the sorting office, not DVLA
Have kept copies of everything, ready for meeting with our MP

Mine license took 14 weeks to come though . It was medical because of my age . Make sure you send application recorded post
I don’t know if it help but i registered a formal complaint on line. That was a couple of weeks before it arrived
I was told that they were taking strike action
I pointed out that I had more years behind me then in front of me

Sent my app. In July 3rd. Still waiting.

Blimey, I should be doing the lottery 😀
Sent mine for renewal on Sept 8th, received my new one Sept 21st at the cost of £17.00

I turned 70 at start of lock down in 2020. Did online request for new licence without C1/D1 and received it very quickly. Didn't have a MH at that time. Ordered a PVC in October 2020. Thinking I might need a C1, I applied with all the relevant medical forms on 19 Feb this year. Eventually received a 1 year licence to drive C1 on 20 May. Immediately wrote letter to DVLA asking 'why only 1 year?'. Didn't hear anything in reply to my letter. However, out of the blue, a new driving licence valid for 3 years with C1/D1 entitlement arrived on our doorstep yesterday. Hurrah.

It has just been mentioned on the BBC's 'Rip Off Britain' (who were investigating long delays) that, according to the DVLA, online renewal will only take a few days BUT if the renewal needs human intervention, eg. a medical form etc, there is a backlog of well over a million applications, due to a strike and Covid, so there is no time scale for these.

Going to have to disagree with you re the checking the progress of postal application online, I did just that.
Don't know who signed for my letter but the online page (which I took a photo of) clearly showed someone had received and signed for it at the Swansea DVLA office, time and dated of delivery,

I really think as a Club, we should have a collective agreement as to a specific course of action.

It is not acceptable to have a curtailment in our right to travel abroad.

I respectfully suggest that, say, four weeks is sufficient time for a Gov. organisation to turn around a request for a post 70yrs licence renewal.

If we had a systematic approach to complaining at first instance and following that up, say 2 weeks later with a complaint to our MP. then they just might pull their finger out.

It would be of no surprise to me if approaches of complaints by MP's had to be recorded and would be subject of scrutiny by Select Committees.
It’s not a Government organisation anymore they hived it off the private sector 😡

It took 12 weeks. To get mine. I keep my class 1. So have a medical every year. But will never drive a truck again.

What part of the description below leads you believe that DVLA is in the Private sector.

In addition, I have seen and watched as Ms. Lennard squirmed under the questions asked of her by a Parliamentary Select Committee following the dismal performance of the DVLA during the height of the pandemic.

"The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA; Welsh: Asiantaeth Trwyddedu Gyrwyr a Cherbydau) is the organisation of the UK government responsible for maintaining a database of drivers in Great Britain and a database of vehicles for the entire United Kingdom. Its counterpart for drivers in Northern Ireland is the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA). The agency issues driving licences, organises collection of vehicle excise duty (also known as road tax and road fund licence) and sells personalised registrations.

The DVLA is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT). The current Chief Executive of the agency is Julie Lennard.[1]"

Over 70 licence with no C1 entitlement sent on 2 September nothing heard yet
I did my wifes online, without a C1 on it and it came back in a few days used the passport photograph , very simply done. With a medical form it will be a nightmare as they all seem to have real people working from home.

D2+D4 sent 22nd sept. DVLA web site says licence renewal from 2 Oct.2021 Until 1 Oct. 2024 just have to wait until hard copy licence arrives
Received hard copy of licence (photo card ) today 11th Oct which with the post here (royal snail) is excellent so from me a 👍 for DLVA.

Hate to burst your bubble , sent my C1 for renewal , 3rd august recorded , received 4th . DVLA finally acknowledged receipt 24th , still waiting for the actual card . I have no idea if this is true , but i have heard they were still on furlough till october . I can't be bothered to chase them , not going anywhere this year anyway , vans still in bits though it is running now .

I don't need it for the EU but if I did I could have requested an ordinary licence to drive without the C1 as my van is less than 3.5t as a temporary measure ,but I want to retain my C1 ,just in case I change to a larger van.
That's what I have done now it's a waiting game.

Son passed test Thursday, full licence delivered Monday!

Do you remember the 'good old days' when they used to issue you with a slip (was it blue?) until your provisional ran out and THEN you received your FULL one?

I started the process by requesting the forms at beginning of March, so that i could get it in 90 days before expiry, at end of May,
Have chased, been told it is with medical team, had to have a second medical, and still no licence
Joe
Sent mine on 2nd June still waiting spike to DVLA who said it may have got lost. Problem with home working. Absolutely disgraceful
