Does anybody use their carpets?

We did put ours down everywhere except the kitchen area, for one trip when we were between dogs. Still had dirt grabber mats on top which wouldn’t stay put but slipped every time they were walked on. Much easier without them, brush the mats outside, sweep the floor and clean with a floor wipe.
We might change into slippers when coming in but haven‘t yet trained the dog to it!

Don't train the dog to do it! He'll need 2 pairs of slippers for starters ...

Cheapo carpet runners over the posh fitted ones, they catch dog hair, grit and are great if the ‘van gets bogged down in soft ground

Yep, love having the carpets fitted.

In the days that they build my van, the entire floor is carpeted and then the coachworks is built on top.

Nicely insulated, much quieter and all cupboards and doors open nicely.

When we had the van, my daughter had recently carpeted her living room and had some large off-cuts. I used the new carpets in the van as templates and then paid about 40 quid to get the off-cuts bound. 4yrs on and they're still going strong.

Our carpets are always down with a Dunelm Marvel washable mat on top at the hab door and by the loo/shower.
Likewise.

Feels better underfoot, throw the loose mats in the washing machine and it saves dirt on the carpets.

Once again though, it’s a matter of personal choice.

When our van was new it came with lovely plain cream carpets - perfect for camping... not!

So they're stored unused in the roof.

Instead, bought an off-cut of vinyl that virtually matches the fitted vinyl and cut it to shape and use that to protect the original floor. :giggle:

Have a door mat and fitted black carpet in the cab with rubber mats on top.

Works for us. In fact did exactly the same with the previous van, which came with plain fawn-coloured carpets... ;) (y)

like 1 or 2 others, carpets in house garage Dunelm Marvel washable mats cut to shape on floor. Origional Rapido carpet far too CREAM

We use our carpets all the time, except during maintenance periods, They are bound and are cut in easily removable sections.

They are dirty grey colour so do not show much dirt and we vacuum them on tour and have them professionally cleaned at end.

Much prefer them under bare feet.

Wow! Surprised at the numbers of people not using carpets they have. Not buying carpets, that makes some sense.

Our MH came with carpets - well, rugs that 98% cover the floor. They're in 2 sections that are contoured around the fire, bed corners, etc.
Underneath is a linoleum type floor in good nick.
We thought about not using them. But not for long. We use them all the time with an extra doorway carpet tile.

Ours are fitted mats held in with poppers, always used them. They come out easily for washing. When they wear out we'll get exact copies made if possible.

Had a couple come and view my van when for sale horrified I used the carpets and got them dirty and wanting money off. I said anyone who can afford this van in the first place is not going to blink at purchasing a new set when they’re tired etc.... why would I scratch floors just to keep their ‘protectors’ clean in a garage? They then only went on two mins later how they put their in the garage as so not to spoil them. My reply... so why you seeking discount for carpets you won’t use then?

was then asked is your husband not going to come out and discuss money!!! As you can imagine.... they left our property sharpish.... bizarre some folk !

use the darn carpets, get another set made when required from carpet place and edges machine bound ... live life for goodness sake we only have one 😊

Definitely. Why pay for something, not use them, only to pass them on immaculate to a future perspective buyer?
We take them out in the summer, when it’s warmer.

You should have gone to get your husband and primed him to put the price up £5-10K. Then turned to them and said 'Do you want to deal with him or me?'

Geoff

We use Turtle mats, just cut the to shape robust and machine washable 👍

I like your thinking 😂

Carpets came with the van, quite heavy, decided kids, in and out..so stored in the spare room,
Dunhelm, made it easy and washable, dust pan and brush, hand held mini Hoover quick clean over

When you say washing, do you mean with a carpet cleaner or in the washing machine?
Our wee dog isn't a good traveler and has been sick a few times, we managed to wipe up the mess and can't see any stain although it's probably there. We have put a few rugs and puppy pads down which has offered some protection, but not always

I take them out and spray them with Actiwash or carpet shampoo, leave them for 30 minutes and rinse them with the pressure washer, the first time I did it the muck that came out was very satisfying 😎 I then hang them on the washing line with some huge clips to drip dry for a day 👍

Use ours, also use a shower mat and of all things a microfibre draining mat (spare) as an entrance mat which works wonders

They can be a nuisance but saves scratching the floor.
Plus with two dogs walking around. Paws tapping on the floor continuously is a pain. Rather have the feel of a carpet under my feet than a gritty wooden floor.

I don't under stand why by new vans take carpet out use similar cheaper product and then put it in for whoever buys it preloved to get the benefit of the lovely new carpets

My ex Mrs would have wiped the floor with them if they'd asked her if I was coming out, although we'd probably both be there, if I wasn't she'd do the deal. What is it with some people, do they think a pump engineer is more savvy than a woman with a Masters in Chemistry and Biology?🤷‍♂️

I was once asked by a car sales man would I like to check with my husband before buying the only car I would have bought because I fancied it nd not because it was cheap and convenient. I looked at him and said I did not have one of the those but did have matching shoes and handbag, (It was the fashion) he than said should I check with my father !!!!!!!!!!!!! needless to say I walked away with the £25000 still in my pocket bought a model change car for 15000 cheaper (same engine) 20 minutes later. which was sold as a banger 15 years later
Two weeks after the boss of the show room asked why I had not bought it and it was still available 2 munites later the salesman was on the dole

We've always used the carpets supplied with motorhome. Vanish gold used on them before a trip and after we return. A decent cordless vacuum whilst we're away.

Payload bad in our Adria Matrix, every kg matters so carpets out. Nice underfloor heating so toasty on feet. Also best keep them out in case dog gets the sh**s.

Thanks for all the responses. We put the carpets in yesterday, Julie asked me if other people used theirs. I thought there's only one way to find out! Lot's of varying answers, with many good reasons given. We're leaving ours in for our first trip away in our new van. We'll see how we get on.
Cheers, Martyn
