Ahhh, Zermatt, spent an awful lot of time there 20 odd years ago, been back a couple of times since, sadly it, and the surrounding area, just gets more developed and commercialised. They have a big firework display for swiss national day Aug 1st, it's quite something in the mountains with the echos and smoke hanging in the air. Have thought about trying to get there for Zermatt Unplugged.

You’re right about the fireworks in the mountains, we had the NYE firework display at Lauterbrunnen, the sound bouncing off the mountain faces was awesome

The lad is telling me he wants to go live innthe Netherlands, his parents beat him and he's ran away from home several times but the community leaders bring him back , they're angry because he is 21 and he is supposed to be married but ran away , he's been beaten badly before he spent 7 weeks in hospital. Apparently all Moroccan parents beat their children so he says it is normal.

He works on a farm with vegetables.

Not sure why he is so keen on the Netherlands though.

He likes my mint tea though lol

Finally caught up, out here on Hadrian's Wall the signal is awful I did manage to get help of Uncle Lenny when we stupidly knackered our Ebl. So no heating, no lights, no fridge and no pump oh and the step was down when it happened so can't even drive anywhere Just hope the gas lasts until we get it back thought I would share that to cheer you up Lovely photos

That YouTube woman , itchy boots, has been in that area and the locals all seem to want to know all about her as soon as she says she is from Holland, don't know what it is.

Is it all truth and nothing but the truth?

Not sure why he is so keen on the Netherlands though.

These things are often just culturally transmitted. Suddenly a whole generation thinks that the holy land is in a specific place.

But the Netherlands rank as the 7th happiest country in the world (UK 20th), it is about 30% richer than the UK per capita on a PPP basis, it is perceived as the 9th least corrupt country (UK 20th). And if you're into vegetables, the Netherlands is the 3rd largest exporter in the world.

And it's part of the EU and Schengen, it's highly regarded, very multilingual and forward-looking.

So in this case the young man's preference isn't irrational.

He likes to talk though that's for sure , he was here a good few hours . He asked for books so I gave him a couple of English novels..

No reason to believe any else Charlie.. we had a long conversation about families, travel , animals , religion, etc he was in love with a girl when he was 18 , her family approved his didn't as they had arranged for him to marry someone else but he didn't like her , so his parents forbid him from seeing the other girl and locked him in the house for several months, he then ran away but the community leaders found him beat him and brought him back , he ran away 2 other times but was found....his mother very angry because the family of the girl they wanted him to marry were not happy with him etc .. all very complicated but apparently his older brother was also beaten very badly

He has 2 sisters who are also promised marriages and they're 11 and 13


He says he forgives his mother for burning him but he does not love the girl they want him to marry and he wants to be a farmer in the Netherlands, he has a cousin there

The young man’s desire comes from the fact that a huge tribe of Moroccans already lives in the Netherlands and have for many generations, it is also the nationality causing most trouble and strengthening the far right, out of all different nationalities living in NL they really are not well liked
