Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

To say I'm a little nervous would be an understatement. They painted half a sprinter today too and that's also not the best job. The Concorde is practically in bare aluminium on the front on the side I can see. He's obviously wanted all the black graphic off and the paint has come with it. There's a guy sanding it at present and it's through to the aluminium.

The guy who's been working on mine speaks no English. He's been masking up most of the afternoon but I don't think it's ready for painting.. the panels are still shiny fir feck sake. No sign of momo but I'll be saying to him tomorrow if he attempts to paint this yet that it isn't ready. The front end looks OK sanded but back bumper looks hardly touched never mind fully keyed.

I hate standing over folk working and also don't like to try and tell them their job but if my front and bumpers turn out like that blue and grey eyesore I'll be going nuts.

I've the stripe and glue of the hab door side OK but the other side isn't so easy as it's not In the sun . I'd planned to turn van around in the morning. Can't get in my garage or lockers lol as this guys masked everything up 🤣

I think these Germans and French are accepting any old shite jobs but the look of it.

In that picture, based on what one can see in the reflections, the paint finish on the 2-tone job doesn't necessarily look too bad?

If you're doing yours in white that is a more forgiving colour too.

I’m sorry Tam but lve got this feeling of dread, like l want to put my head under the pillow until it’s all over. Its not looking good and if you feel the same back out of it don’t feel committed to let them go further. You know the most important part of a paint job is preparation and you appear to be doing a good part of that, you don’t appear to be impressed with anything they have done on other vehicles so far so it’s no good thinking yours will be any better despite your best efforts.
You won’t like what lve said but you have to face it head on.
Good luck.

It has more runs than Hussain bolt and I've not had a right close look at it.

Overall from 6-10 feet away it looks alright and as I said I never saw it before it was painted. The British guys burstner is a right mess as I said its had more hits than the beatles and big dents along the side etc so anything would make it look better.

My van was in no way minted , the front bumper and arches needed doing, the rear bumper was perfect. The side skirt panels were OK but again not perfect. And the front grp section and door definitely needed painting although thee front panel did polish up OK.

Buy Overall it was a very presentable van ... If it turns out looking better than it did then it'll be worthwhile.

The door and front panel look sanded OK...the side panels I'm not so sure but the rear bumper I'd say was still far too shiny for paint to adhere to that properly. They can't paint it without me driving it in to booth lol so when I see momo in the morning I'll express my thoughts and concerns .

It's a little late for that. It's got no lights mirrors etc etc at present and it's half sanded .. I can hardly go take it somewhere else. I'll just have to say to him in the morning that I think it needs more prep work before any thoughts of paint. It would be primered first anyway but I also wanted to get the rest of that decal off first as any chemicals I have to use to remove glue would damage any new paint

Difficult, isn't it?

In the last year or two in Portugal, where it's sometimes quite difficult to get skilled people, I've had to do some of my own tiling, clean a floor and properly grout it after after I had a cowboy tiler in, directly work with and supervise a brickie while we built a 60-metre wall and fence. Because it would otherwise either not get done, or be a bad job, or cost me 3 times as much. What to do?

In these circumstances I guess I may also be reduced to doing as much of the prep as possible to signal what I want and how fastidious I am.

Oops. That wouldn't do at all.

Hope momo's English is ok?

Do you spray? Would you trust yourself to do it?

Yeah I mean everyone knows if I went to a paintshop in the UK they'd want a few grand at least to do the painting I want done. I'm just hoping I made the right decision to colour code it as I could probably have just got front bumper and arches done for £100 here.

I've done most of the stripdown myself just because I didn't want them masking things up instead of removing them. He'd made no attempt to remove stuff yet it seems they have done on other vans like the big blue and grey thing

Yeah momo speaks English and he's the boss. He's got nae money from me yet either lol.

No idea what the folk with the blue van paid . They seem very happy with it though. Maybe we brits are different from the rest of Europe, I just have higher standards. If it had been moby I'd not be as fussy but this is a quality van I want it looking its best.

If I was that Concorde owner I'd be having feckin kittens . That's gotta be worth upwards of £80k surely and look at it

All to remove the black decals....that are still on the other side

But the blue and grey thing is now uniformly blue or grey, including bits that would normally have been masked or removed, isn't it?

I thought that may have been a preferred aesthetic. Blue is the new black. But nobody wants paint runs.

And Germans aren't necessarily famously relaxed about this stuff either. Maybe you can do a fly on the wall documentary about his facial expressions and body language as this progresses.

White is one of the most difficult colours to match.

That Burstner tag A747-748 might have had partly blue decals with grey and yellow along the side but nowhere near that size. If it’s a late 2006 then those coloured decals changed as did the white to an off white. View attachment 1000693IMG_0645.webp

I’ve read all these post I’m afraid I would be driving away I’m sorry to have to say Tam
Too late for that. I'll just have to make sure he sands it down a bit more tomorrow.

Can't leave it as it is.

If sanded properly it should come out alright.

At this stage you’ve just got to keep your fingers crossed and pay attention to what they are doing. At Tiznit last year we had our front valance ( inc split repaired) and front and rear light surrounds painted. It was a leap of faith as he stripped all the pieces off the van and then came back 4 days later. Our Burstner is the same age as yours and the difference it made was tremendous. It was well worth the £150. The guy was also doing front and rear re-sprays as you are having and people were generally very pleased. I know it’s a different guy.

Is Momo doing new decals on your door?

These are before and after.

Personally I would have looked at the other vans they had done while there first, and then if they are as bad as you say turned around and headed for Spain.
But tam has been here before and seen the work they do and was so pleased with it that he is back there to have some done.
Has something changed since last year.
Takeover or something, is it still the same workforce.

Didn't really see any that was decent motorhomes, you always expect the self build creations to look a bit rough as half of them are matt paint or raptor etc .. there were several motorhomes left this morning the frankia etc and they looked great so I'm guessing if any paintwork done on those it was done well .

The Concorde etc being here let me think they must be doing OK.

There's a transit pvc in the paint booth just now that's at least a 2022 model and I couldn't see what it needed done but they were working on it yesterday and it's in being painted now . The couple left with bags etc so I'm guessing they were going to a hotel or air bnb

No new decals as the bumpers and skirts are going white .

Shocking, how to devalue your MH masterclass🥲
That Burstner has just gone down in value.
Agreed, and he has done himself no favours when it comes to selling it on. :(

I think these Germans and French are accepting any old shite jobs but the look of it.
Not so much the French, but the Germans are usually quite particular re quality and appearance of their MHs.

I’ve read all these post I’m afraid I would be driving away I’m sorry to have to say Tam
You and me both Brian. Our Flair wouldn't have even got to the masking stage, based on what I have read and viewed. :(

It goes without saying though Tam, that I do hope it all goes well for you. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

To be honest it depends what they paid for that burstner . If it was in a right mess then it might have been dirt cheap.

I'm guessing they're not looking to sell it as it now has Tödi painted on the front and back in huge bright yellow letters 🤣

I say what I think, it’s a Yorkshire thing

Tam

STEP AWAY FROM THE COWBOY PAINT SHOP

or at least do not pay a penny until your 100% happy with the results.

I hope i’m wrong but your comments certainly fill me with dread and especially when you’ve a premium van

Good Luck
