Hi Folks,
My son has a theory about car/vehicle ownership - which I agree with.
It goes like this.
When you park, do you lock up and just walk off, or do you lock up and as you walk off, you turn and look at your car/vehicle and 'check it out'? If you just walk away - you don't deserve to own it. If you look back, you clearly are a happy owner. When driving through a town, do you take a sneaky look in shop windows to see your reflection? When up on a castle or bridge, do you track down the car park so you can see your vehicle from a different angle - and perhaps take a photo?
I would go so far as to add, in your photo collection - online or hard copies, are there lots of shots of your Motorhome, or just the places you visit?

What do you think?

D

I can feel you cringing at the thought
I know a little piece of you fancies the fiat, come out the closet glenn2926 , we dont judge here even if you are Leccyist
I’ve certainly nothing against electric. It powers the dishwasher, the washing machine, the fridge, freezer, microwave, oven. Exiting, thrilling stuff isn’t it?
How you think it can possibly replace the power units in those vehicles is beyond me. You probably think the electronic music about today is better than the likes of the Stones, Kinks, the who etc. That’s where we’ll never agree as well.

Several years ago I parked in a pub car park in Windsor where a chapter of Hell’s Angels just happened to be enjoying a few drinks in the pub garden beside the Thames. As I walked across the car park they all shouted in unison, “You’ve left your lights on.“ Thinking this was their idea of a joke I chose to ignore them and carried on walking. Why would I have my lights on in broad daylight? Again they all shouted, “you’ve left your lights on”. So I looked round and …. sure enough, I had left my lights on.
Clearly I can’t claim to have loved my car as I never turned around to look at it, but then again, it was a c****y Ford at the time.

I always look back, it’s the only way I can recognise the thing when I return!

Always look back at one of the cars, I bought it because it looks beautiful (to me) so why wouldn’t I look back? I get pleasure from looking at it, whether I’m walking away or towards it. Couldn’t care less if some people don’t understand that, each to their own. :giggle:

It is my choice to look and admire my vehicles, I look at my vehicles before I leave them parked up to ensure they are safe. I then check them over on return for any damage caused by others

I plead guilty to all the previously mentioned vices, including vanity for posting Ariane's picture here; in addition I also clean her wheel spokes by hand.........................

I did a factory tour pre-virus.
Really interesting to see hoW they are made up from scratch.
I guess it’s got a BMW power plant under the bonnet?

Hi Stag man, Ariane was one of the last bespoke 4/4s' to be built and was fitted with the Ford 1.8 'Duratec' Mondeo engine - fitted north to south to drive the rear wheels. My first 'Mog' - 1958 vintage - had a 1172cc Ford Popular Side Valve engine 0 to 60 in around four minutes and counting.

The new breed of 'BMW' engined cars are as far from the 'traditional' Moggies as you can get including the prices.

I so agree
When I saw the crated Beamer engines in the works I thought they had lost the plot
But heyho it sells cars to today’s buyers
The really nice touch was the ash frames they have always used and the care they take in fabricating the body panels

Owned 1 of these for about 2 years a few years ago.....Sadly it never looked like the one in this pic.

However I ALWAYS had a smile on my face when I was in it or near it, and ALWAYS checked it out after parking. Thing of beauty!

I always look back & also make a mental. It’s if where it’s parked - in case I forget!

Almost always look back at mine.
I regularly photograph and write about other people's campers for a magazine, but have still to do a 'proper' photo shoot with my own! Although I rather like this pic, taken at the Lincolnshire launch of the Poppy Appeal a couple of years ago.

Just a machine to get from A to B to us (except the campervan which is also to live it) so never named a vehicle, never look back, never have any car envy or gloat. I really enjoy driving and travelling and look for comfort but never got this 'my wheels are so special' obsession thing.

My vehicles are just tools to do a job. None are to make a statement (even if they happen to). My motorhome is to take me to places comfortably, where I can enjoy what those locations have to offer. It's what it does that matters, more than what it looks like.
If on a mountain, I may look towards my motorhome to check my bearings and that it's still there, but not to admire the state of its roof.
