Disaster on way to Portugal!!

It beats me though why the garage wouldn't tighten the wheel nuts up, you put the wheel on and tighten it up , what possible reason would they leave it loose?
I think the main problem is over tightening of nut and studs as most places will use impact guns to tighten them, over tightening will cause the stud to stretch and weaken over time.

New wheel hub fitted (was ordered from Italy hence the delay) just waiting for new tyres all round to be fitted then we will finally be on our way after spending 6 days here 👍

Glad your sorted .
That does seam a Heath-Robinson way to attach twin wheels although I cannot think of another way apart for a 2nd axle.

It’s the only way if using spacers the chassis’s are prepared by Meier in Germany/Austria if you look on their website they have lots of axel widening methods they use.

Had my Hyundai i10 seviced by a local garage I'd not used before - they failed to tighten both sets of real wheel bolts. I drove half a mile and thought I'd got a puncture but found the wheels to be loose. Fortunately no real damage to the bolts which were still in situ but very loose. I had a right go at the garage, left them a stinging review on google and have never been back there since.
Bit different sitting in a car 4 feet from the rear wheels and being in a big motorhome insulated from much of whats going on at the back end.
On a different experience, following a service on our i10 , which involved wheel removal, they over torqued the nuts soo much that I couldn’t undo them, even with a 2ft bar!!
Returned to the dealership who had for 3 days while they chiselled off the nuts!! Just can’t get the staff.

You've got love nuts  safe onward journey

On a lighter note when my tried and test garage owner retired, he assured me the guy taking over was good

Took car in for service with the usual dirty alloys.

Having checked the brakes there were no hand marks on the alloy wheels where they were removed.....

Needless to say they lost a customer and the old guy now does the MOTs where I take the van
