D2, D4 and deflated, I realise this has been covered by numerous threads but..

Hi all
Thanks so much for your invaluable help, thank goodness for funsters eh!

I spent ages on Google trying to find the answer to this. To no avail!

I can now relax with a nice glass of Red!

Cheers everyone, stay safe.

Jugster

Jugster ,I went for my medical today but my licence runs out 19/5/22
Paperwork from DVLA say you must apply 56 days before expiry!
Last year when I turned 70 it took them 23 weeks to give me my licence back , visits to GP,visit to Opticians and to hospital for treadmill cardio test.
But, if your GP can confirm your fitness to drive you can do so whilst waiting fir the licence to appear at home.
Bear in mind that you cannot drive in Europe with a valid licence though.
All the best to you though and I am keeping my finger crossed that I get mine back sonatas meant to be going to France at end of June.

Not sure if I am being a bit dense. I have my D46P licence renewal come through. I want to retain my C1 entitlement so have completed D2/D4 forms complete with medical from D4drivers.
Do I send my D46P form together with D2/D4 forms and old licence. Cannot find anything that states what is required.

When I sent my renewal of I explained I would be keeping my current licence as would be driving in France whilst my licence was current and undertook to cut my old licence up when either the new one arrived or when the current one expired and keep a photographic record of doing so. It went fine.

Has ANYONE actually had a good experience in a quick turnaround of renewal application of D2 and D4??

Edit .... Just realised I have answered an old question.:doh:

In answer to the question above by chocky .....

I've always thought the D 46P was for if you had your C1 via a vocational licence, ie passing a hgv test.

What I am sure of is that neither my wife or I have ever used the D46P to apply to retain our grandfather rights C1. Just D2 and D4.

I used one of the specialist medical companies for my last HGV medical. It cost £40, cash only no change given. They had the forms pre populated with all relevant sections completed, just added the clients name which was me and handed it to me. I posted it off and no problem what so ever. New C+E arrived promptly.
I think one part of what they do, namely the medical isn’t as in depth as using ones own GP but knowing how and which sections of the forms to fill in correctly is worth the money alone.
My GP forgot to date the form. Wish I'd checked before it was sent off :(
Mine is coming up for seven months since applying. I do have medical issues though nothing that effects driving. I have downsized mh and will just apply online next time.
Downrating is an option for us as well.

If you are on blood pressure medication you'll need more than one. It's on the form somewhere, I think it was three or five, maybe. It doesn't say anything definite about the time spacing, so maybe you could take several with a few hours in between, that might be OK.

Once you have the application sent in to DVLA, you can continue to drive after your old licence expires, assuming you don't have a medical condition that would stop you from driving.
Just don't plan to go abroad.

send a new photo as well and cheque to be on safe side
Cheque will be returned. There is no charge for renewal at 70.(y)

Oh right, that sounds an option and worth a fiver. At least it gives me a licence. Do'u know if they are widely accepted as a substitute for a UK photo licence?
Technically it is just a translation into several languages of the UK licence and should be used together with the UK one. BUT to get one you must have a UK one so it is logical evidence that you have a valid licence. I first drove across Europe in 1968 and in the last 20 years have been 4 or 5 times a year - and have *never* been stopped or asked for a licence

I am now out of the DVLA renewal system as I now have a Polish licence, but still have a UK one because it was running out and I applied to renew my C1, just in case I did not get the Polish one for any reason.

I got the Polish licence and a few days later the UK one arrived and I am going to hang onto it.

The Polish initial C1 medical involves a long psychiatric test, but the rest of the medical is very basic. The renewal, which is every 5 years, instead of UK 3 years, does not need the psychiatric test, so should be quite easy - I hope so, since I will be 84 at the next one.

I am also out of the DVLA 'madhouse' for the MH, which is now registered as a Polish 'veteran' vehicle - only way to get RHD over 3.5t registered, and as yet no vehicle age requirements, and no 'MOT' renewal required. I know sounds crazy, but I am complying with all legislation.

Geoff
Most of us on here would struggle to get through a psychiatric test........
